It hasn't been "officially" announced yet, but I doubt Beetlejuice will be "book" edition. I can't imagine it going well with How the West Was Won, Bonnie and Clyde, Naturla Born Killers...

I think at blu-ray.com, the thread there mentioned a "holographic" cover.

That would be neat...but not an extra $5 neat. Maybe its a slipcover?

Ugh, so we have to pay extra for a throwaway soundtrack (and just a sampler at that) and a booklet? Just give me the damn movie in hi-def.

$5 extra. With the exception of Fox, standard "catalog" title pricing is more like $29.99.

Here's an idea for someone to put together a new poll:
"How surprised are you that, since HD DVD folded, Blu-ray prices have substantially risen?
-Very
-Moderately
-Not at all
-Holy crap!! My world has been turned upside down!!
-Stop spreading your FUD, Pinko -- Blu-ray prices have actually come DOWN; the perceived price increases are all because the American Dollar has been devalued by Wal Mart's $5 DVD bargain bins!!!"

10 years and the best Warner can come up with is 3 22 cartoons and a slipcover? No sale for me. Then to charge $5 more for a soundtrack sampler and a booklet? That's my beef. Why no deleted scenes? Commentary? Features?

I totally agree -- it's pretty lame for a "deluxe edition".

What exactly is with the soundtrack sampler? Maybe that would work with a new theatrical release, but I bought the CD soundtrack 20 years ago.

Anyway, back to announcements:

Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay (unrated)

I'm going to go out on a limb and say the HD version is worth a few more dollars than a version with 480 lines of resolution.

FYI, Amazon is currently listing the Cloverfield Blu-Ray at 50% off list - 19.98. A pleasant surprise.

They played this on HDnet last year and it looked quite nice. I think fans of the film will be pleased.

Thanks for the heads up. Wasn't gonna bother with this, but I'll bite at that price. Of course I get to pay tax on it now as well as The Dirty Harry box (the timing for that one couldn't be any worse)

Blu-ray.com mentions Beetlejuice having TrueHD audio. Hopefully at that point, we won't get anymore WB releases with Dolby Digital 5.1 sound.

Harold and Kumar will be a 2-disc BD. That's the last film I would have thought of to get the 2-disc treatment.

Well, it is New Line, who have given some of their titles 2-disc releases before. Or does Warner control all the decisions on their titles now?

WB will make the decisions on future releases. It's likely future New Line releases will start containing TrueHD audio since WB will be doing all of the authoring. Titles are usually planned out months in advance of their release. I'm sure the contents of this release was made when New Line was actually New Line.
