Re: Alien Anthology - Oct. 26th
NICE! Thanks for posting this here. I was iffy about the $70.49 still, but they're essentially paying you $5 to take "Last of the Mohicans" off their hands. Take that $65.49 figure and subtract $16.84 in promotional credit I had saved up on Amazon and I paid $48.65 out of pocket for the "Alien Anthology" and "Last of the Mohicans!" And if I look at it like I would have waited and paid $10 for "LOTM" anyway, that's $38.65 for the Alien set, which is fucking awesome. I can convince myself of this, since the Amazon promotional credit I had saved up was free.

I just got my EGG packaging from HMV UK (it took about a month to get here, but that's another story :P)
It looks great and all but i can't for the life of me find the little number that says ' xxxx out of 5000' anywhere
Where is it located?
Thanks!

Yep, I concur it's on the back of the box. Well, it's on the sheet that's attached to the box. If you don't want to keep the box, you can remove the sheet to keep the number.

Re: Alien Anthology - Oct. 26th
Last week, there was a combo deal where you could get the anthology set plus the blu-ray of Last of the Mohicans for $65 and change, total. I managed to snag this, which will bring my total cost to about $55 after the sale of LOTM. That is about what I was willing to pay for it. I would not be surprised if Amazon offers this as a gold box before Christmas.

Re: Alien Anthology - Oct. 26th
Has anyone listed the differences between the making of Alien 3 on the first DVD set and the one on the Blu-ray set? I had heard that Fincher had done interviews for this and was very unflattering about Fox, and the studio at the time demanded those comments be cut out. However, watching the making of on the Blu-ray, I'm still not seeing any participation from Fincher, making me wonder what's been changed.
Edit: OK, I can see some more on set footage with Fincher.

As I understand it, the Alien 3 "making-of" documentary was cut drastically for the Quad set, but has been restored in its entirety for the new Anthology. Can't wait to get my set...should be here tomorrow (damn that Super Saver shipping from Amazon! But I did get in on the $65 price with LOTM).

It's still worth watching. The previous doc had almost no footage of Fincher at all. This definitely paints a more complete picture, even if it doesn't have any of Fincher looking back on it.

from what I remember, Fincher wont participate at all in anything involving Alien 3. Too sour a taste, I guess. Thats why the workprint cut is culled together from notes and whatnot, and has no actual Fincher input.
But just to clarify, interviews were cut from this release right? Other people saying what Fox did to Fincher and the like? Or is all the new footage just bts crap?

Beyond that, the "information pods" is also all-new footage, so there's another significant chunk beyond the previously edited material to dive into.

Watched 1-3 last night and - holy shit - do 1 & 2 look amazing. I felt like I was watching a new movie. Fox might suck at a lot of things, but they completely got this set right.

Re: Alien Anthology - Oct. 26th
About the numbering: I've seen a number of people asking where they can find the number on their anthology package (and not just those who ordered from HMV). I also saw posts from people who got their set in late October, showing numbers ranging up to the high 3xxx's. My theory is that Fox Connect had an initial "limited" run of 5000 with numbers, but then immediately started selling additional copies without numbers as soon as the first batch sold out. Can anyone confirm or refute this?
My guess is that nobody who ordered at the $119.99 price point has gotten a numbered set, but I'd love to hear otherwise if I'm mistaken. I would also point out that the Fox Connect site no longer makes any mention of a limited run of 5000 (which as I recall was featured during the pre-order phase).
Side note: when I saw that they had lowered the price from $150 to $120, I sent them an email asking for a return authorization. That was just over 3 weeks after the street date, so well within the 30-day return window. They eventually responded *almost 2 weeks later*, claiming that I couldn't return the set, since it had been over 30 days by then.
Real classy, Fox...

Re: Alien Anthology - Oct. 26th
I'm admittedly not in the market for toy-gimmicks (I'm sold on actual content) but this reminds me so much of what Apple/EMI did with a mono box set of The Beatles released last year. It was rumored to be numbered and/or limited to 10,000, but as soon as the demand overwhelmed what they thought they were going sell, they started the printing-presses right back up, and cranked out more. They managed to essentially put fans into a panic, forking out well over $200 when first released. Now (a year later) the set sells for somewhere in the area of $150, because they can't sell any more.
I would never, ever, ever buy a dvd (or for that matter, music) set based on a studio promoted "limited edition" ad campaign. They are going to sell as many as they can, even if that means screwing over their initial customers, who thought they were getting something "limited".

I just got this for 49.99$ at Costco. Not sure if that price was just in my area (Ottawa, Canada) but I'm happy

Re: Alien Anthology - Oct. 26th
Are the commentaries the same between the theatrical and extended cuts of the films? Or do I have to listen to both to get all of the information?
