re: Alien Anthology - Oct. 26th
I just want a something about the size of the last Alien set..which was awesome cuz it had everything you could want but....I hated that I had to fold it out alot to get to a disc on the ends. Just put them in Blu cases put them in a nice box and I'm good.

It's Fox. It'll probably come in a cheap paper folder with little pieces of foam that hold the discs in place.

That would be perfect! I too hated the never ending folds of the quad case! What a pain in the neck that was. The legacy set was perfect on so many levels, the least being the individual packaging of each film.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of those plastic holders (digipaks I think they're called?) sometimes they have a very strong hold on those discs (you know the ones that have that Push/press plastic clip thing?) and I just fear of accidentally touching the bottom of the discs. I don't remember the Quadrilogy having it but...it's just a fear with a box set.

Yeah, it's part of the BD spec that the discs are required to have a scratch-resistant coating.
I haven't put it to the test yet, though.
I also haven't seen any scratched BDs, either...

I will admit. I have had some BDs that were "scratched" nothing hardcore or damaging to the play of the Blu but I returned it to amazon either way.

I read that apparently they will stand up to steel wool. Back on the topic of Alien, I think the first two would be good candidates for a digibook release.

I almost bought the "Quadrilogy" pack on DVD for less than $20 a few years ago, but decided not to because I knew I'd have to end up getting it on Blu-ray eventually, so I didn't even bother with the DVD. I do have the old Legacy boxed set I got back in '99 (and the mail-in disc) to tide me over.
I also took a similar approach to The Matrix boxed set when I could have gotten it for thirty.

Confirmed: 'Alien Anthology' Blu-ray Box Set this Christmas!!
Confirmed: 'Alien Anthology' Blu-ray Box Set this Christmas!!

From Bloody-Disgusting.com:
A reader over on the High Def Digest forums just posted an image from a home video magazine that has me tearing up with joy. Arriving this Christmas from Fox Home Entertainment is the highly anticipated Alien Anthology on Blu-ray. Fox is known for f*cking their consumers with horrid Blu-ray transfers (check out Predator and Commando for proof), but word has it Ridley Scott and co. worked on this with a watchful eye. It'll carry 7.1 surround, Trivia Tracks, loads of BD-Live content and more. We've heard rumors of new commentary tracks and even featurettes. Time will tell. My only question is, when can I pre-order this and how much will it be?

I don't mind BDL content if it's tied to things like fan communities or online games that require an internet connection, but I hate it when they put things on BDL that should be on the discs themselves like featurettes and commentaries.

Well w/ BDL it means I guess we can't have playback on these things. *sigh* I just want to start up from where I left off damnit.

I agree. I shouldn't have to have an internet capable player to access features that are commonplace on normal dvds. Commentaries and the like should be standard.

I'll definitely get this, but not until the price drops to a reasonable level (around $50), having bought the Quadrilogy on DVD for $100 when it first came out.

I'm normally patient and wait for price drops/coupons, but I imagine I'll be buying this release week. Can't wait to watch Alien in HD. Hopefully I'll have my larger screen by then.
