It didn't have the OT deleted scenes/extras discs, as you had to buy the Saga Boxset for them. I am not a fan of the SE, but if Lucas included the deleted scenes on just the OT boxset, I may have considered it.

I'm sure George could liven it up with some CG activity in the background.

Then next thing you know, he's coming down what's probably a wheelchair ramp from the cave, with most of his body covering that up, too. Really not a big deal, imho.
It's not the rocks themselves that are a problem. It's the fact that there are still things that should be fixed that aren't while time is being spent on digital rocks.

As mentioned above, this is Star Wars and it should be the boxset to end all boxsets. Instead we get digital rocks and an inappropriate "nooooooo!".

re: Star Wars

I just got my player working with these discs and have watched Episodes IV-VI so far and don't really mind any of the changes at all.

On the other hand, it'd be nice if he'd fixed the "jumping" R2-D2 shot in the hanger with Biggs that I mentioned earlier.

Also, I still find it annoying that R2's head panels are STILL clearly NOT colored blue in the space shots in A New Hope like they are in Empire and Jedi. I accepted that maybe they just missed it when they digitally colored them before, but missing them again is unacceptable.

Oh, and I also like how they spent the time to "fix" the blue lid of the escape pod on Tatooine in the first shot with C-3P0 and R2-D2 in the desert, but when you see the same pod in the scene later with the Sandtroopers, it's blue again. Way to go!

It was always Lucas' original vision that the movie freezes in those two spots. Accept it and move on.

Its one thing to trash talk her dad cause you dont agree about his changes to the movie in an open forum or even on his own page ( if he has one) taking the bashing to his daughters personal twitter page is uncalled for.

The whole Lucas clan are a bunch of ****s?

Unlike a lot of filmmakers, Lucas and Rick McCallum don't really interact with the press or the fans. There's probably good reason for that since they've been alienating fans left and right for the past fifteen years. Fox knows the fans' anger, but can't do anything as their hands are tired by Lucas. The fans unfortunately have to find a resource to let their anger be known, and well, Lucas' daughter probably shouldn't have a public Twitter. Sorry, but that's what happens when one is guilty by association regardless if she has any involvement or not. Social media is kind of a bitch at times.

What's interesting is that Spielberg has always been a closed filmmaker until recently. He's opened up more by making more appearances, talking to online outlets like Ain't It Cool News and others, and actually been participating in Q&A sessions outside of USC. It's interesting to note that Spielberg has admitted his faults as a filmmaker and acknowledged that it was a bad idea to alter E.T. and Indiana Jones because its not preserving history or Spielberg's original vision. Has Lucas ever admitted that?

No, because he's a schmuck.

Sorry but just cause someone feels that way about him doesnt give them the right to post those on his daughters personal page.
And if they choose to do so then she has everyright to blast right back at them.

Hmmmm. A "whole bunch of ****s". And you wonder why they don't interact with the fans. Anything that man does (Lucas) he gets crucified for. I'm dissapointed, to an extent, about the blu release but the level of venom these fans are unleashing is unheard of.

The thing is though the poster i was responding to was wrong in another way though cause Lucas does actually interact with the fans, for the star wars premieres here in L.A. he has walked over and greeted and talked to fans. Not to mention at countless other industry events around the city.
and hes attended several of the star wars celebration conventions over the years interacting with fans.

If he had taken the "Blade Runner" approach with this release not a single negative word would've been spoken.

I highly doubt that.

Amity, I hear you. It's a shame that the bitching and vulgar posts seem to be far louder and more plentiful than the positive ones. Them the interwebs for ya.

Its the internet, this type of language goes on EVERYWHERE, not just about George Lucas. Go on some sports or political message boards and tell me if everyone is civil.

I have been saying for years that this whole 'not releasing the OOT' by Lucas is utterly silly. This Boxset could have been a slamdunk that EVERY SW fan would have bought if he released the OOT and SE together. There is no other Bluray or DVD release of a movie that I wanted that I have ever boycotted. Sure most companies double dip, or give more extras on certain releases, I don't blame Lucas for that. Its just ridiculous that he keeps changing the movies every 7 years, and wont release the ones we saw in 1977-83.

It's almost exhausting at this point being a fan of the movies......

I'd LIKE to believe that...I think people would still nitpick something on the originals if released. People would complain that it wasn't a full on restoration or maybe one scene some matte lines would be extra visible.

People online enjoy ripping on him too much. Would some people stop if he released the original Trilogy? Sure, but all would not be forgiven though and he'd still be the butt of every SW joke. He's in a no-win situation at this point, and probably couldn't care less now

Sure you would get the nitpickers, but that would be about 1% of the fanbase. I have friends who don't post on the internet, don't hate Lucas at all, enjoy the PT, but are shaking their heads at the constant changes every several years. One of my friends is a huge Lucas defender, but he couldn't believe the NOOOO change in Jedi.

And please stop he is in a no way situation. If he released the OOT fully restored in 2004 with the SE back then on DVD, there wouldnt be loads of frustrated fans like you hear now. This has built up for years because we know there is some bullshit that will accompany every SW release.

I agree that arguing with Katie Lucas on Twitter is ridiculous, but she was dumb enough to egg on the fans with her post, "The haters will hate and complain...and then they will buy the boxset." She was almost inviting every idiot who hates her dad to reply to it.

And remember how long it took to get ANYTHING "Star Wars" AT ALL on DVD?? When The Phantom Menace came out, it was only on VHS (and on Laserdisc in Japan, no US release.) The reason was that Lucas wanted to "do something REALLY special" with the DVD release, but it would have to wait since he was working on Episode II- like it would take as much work as shooting an entire movie to make a fucking DVD of a movie that's already been made. I never bought it on DVD when it did come out later, but I heard it wasn't worth the wait (merit of the movie itself notwithstanding- I won't get into bashing it, I just accept it for what it is.)

The sad part is she's right. The dumbed-down masses are probably snapping up this warmed-over piece of detritus in record numbers, and it will wind up netting them another tall pile of filthy lucre.
