Jedi Rocks will not exist.

It'll happen, either to coincide with the theatrical release of Episode VII, or the BD release. My bet is theatrical. "Before you see the next chapter, see the originals as they were meant to be seen!" The coverage practically writes itself.

re: Star Wars

The OOT are some of the few VHS tapes that I still own. It would be fantastic to see them in HD glory.

I've never bought any of the DVD or BD sets because of this whole mess.

Assuming this is legitimate and confirmed. There's also still the matter of the resolution of the scan, the way it's mastered, the color timing, the sound mix, and who knows what else. Even if this does happen, I'm still remaining skeptical until review confirm it isn't another half-assed job. And there are still plenty of other messed up DVD and Blu releases for me to bitch about . Like the teal Aliens, the mono-less American Werewolf, North by Northwest, and dozens of others .

I've held off despite being tempted a few times. If the theatrical cuts actually are released in good quality I'm in. I don't care if I have to buy a box set with the prequels and special editions too I'd still be down for them.

Hanshotfirst beat me to it. Now there's tons of shit they can bitch about. This extra wasn't included. This feature from the original LD was included but not in high def. Something was high def but the color was off. The re-mix wasn't good enough. They didn't include the original mono. In the theater back in 1977 my girlfriend gave me a handy in the back row, but she married someone else and it was Lucas' fault. It's costs too much, when is it going to drop below $8 with $20 movie cash for the next release? See. I don't even care about the release and I came up with tons of shit right away. Can't wait to see what the fanboys come up with.

re: Star Wars

There's been a few little tid bits trickling in over the last couple of months that indicate that this has actually been in process for some time now. I'm apt to believe it, especially with Disney's marketing focus in the ramp up to episode 7 being on the original trilogy. Whether they do it justice or not, who knows. What I do know is that even if they don't get everything "right," there's no way that they won't be a giant improvement over the current BDs. Just having the films re-scanned with modern technology will mean a marked improvement. That also means the fan community will have improved materials to work with should any tweaking need to be done.

Truthfully I don't give a fuck about extras. Give me the original three films with good video and audio quality finally and I'll be happy. There's enough extras made for all the films anyways that it shouldn't matter that much.

Hopefully this doesn't get lumped into the still bitching category, but what I've always wanted is them to only make the most minor of corrections, and improvements, but otherwise leave them alone. One can fix some missing saber and speeder effects without turning the Greedo scene into a t-shirt slogan and screenname, right?

Seems like that will never happen because once people start tweaking, they can never contain themselves.

Once there's an HD version of the unaltered versions, I expect there will be a number of fan edits that combine the best of both BD releases into edits that use only the true fixes for effects.

I agree. But some of the fixes in the SE BD's were worse that the original issues. Green saber on the falcon!

I also don't have much use for a fan edit outside being an interesting curiosity. Why not just urge Fox/Disney to get it right, including minor effects corrections?

re: Star Wars

I made sure to buy the re-release of the 'special editions' when they included the bonus disc of the 'theatrical cuts' despite the poor quality of the transfers just so I would have them in case Lucas somehow prevented a proper release of them for all eternity. That said, day one purchase for me if these ever actually hit the shelves.

There's a fine balance of what changes are acceptable, IMO.

The Good: cleaning up matte lines, fixing saber colors, opening up Cloud City, minor effects tweaks, removing the wampa arm, etc.

The Bad: anything involving characters. Greedo shooting first, Jabba in SW, new creatures in Mos Eisley, Fett hamming it up in the Palace, Vader yelling when tossing the Emperor, etc.

The Ugly: Hayden Christensen in Jedi, new dance number at Jabba's, removing "Yub Nub."

The "not sure what category it falls in:" Showing the other planets celebrating at the end of Jedi. On one hand I liked the intimacy of the Ewok celebration and their song, but on the other hand it is nice seeing a larger scope of the universe and the outtro music by Williams is fantastic.

Not only do I agree with all of this, I suspect the vast majority of other fans would as well. I would only add improving, but not replacing, the sound.

This is what I would be happy with. Until then I've got my bootleg OT rips and my SE BD's.

re: Star Wars

Rumor says Disney is trying to get it done ebfore EP7 (Dec '15). Still a long way off.

Would be funny if Iger announces it at Celebration 2015 and there's loud cheers and Lucas is on the stage side behind the curtains with a sad look.

Not sure about Iger. Was he supposed to leave Jan 2015?

Yep, if the changes were mostly just cosmetic and making the film look better or getting rid of errors I think a lot of fans including myself would be okay with them. It's the constant adding new things or modifying dialogue or characters into a scene that piss me off. Also I've said it so many times but more than anything the changes irritate me because of Lucas' stubbornness in regards to not releasing the originals. Had he released his new versions alongside a nicely remastered set of the original films I would have accepted that easily.

Whoever started this rumor doesn't know shit, because Disney doesn't own shit. Fox still owns the rights to all 6 SW movie until 2020, at which time 5 of them go to Disney, and Fox will still own Episode IV into perpetuity. If they had said Fox is releasing the original versions I might believe them. But if they're stupid enough to get such an obvious fact wrong, can't truss it!

At this point who cares? They've had numerous chances to get this right in the past, and have not. I'm content with Harmy's versions.

Fox has the distribution rights, Disney has the rights to the actual films. And there is no "Episode IV."

Exactly. Restoration would be done by Disney. Fox would have to distribute it. As long as Disney doesn't have a problem with that, I'm sure Fox wouldn't have an issue putting them out if Disney handed them new masters.
