Most of those people hardly ever see George, and rarely ever do anything with Star Wars anymore. For example, ILM and Skywalker Sound have a ton of films they work on every year, and I doubt Lucas is a regular at either place, especially since they're at the Presidio instead of Skywalker Ranch.

As for employees challenging Lucas, I'd bet good money that there are quite a few of the old guard that tell him what they think. But I also bet that he ignores whatever they tell him. I can imagine Dennis Muren, John Knoll, or Pablo Helman will tell him. But it does no good.

Same here; I only own a copy of the OT and the SE on VHS and haven't seen the OT in an incredibly long time. And that's after being a huge Star Wars nut as a kid and dressing up as Vader, authentic two-piece mask and all, for Halloween.

I have absolutely no interest in the blu-rays. Lucas keeps saying that he'd have to restore the movies. Which doesn't make much sense since he already restored the movies before he started messing with the effects. It would be really easy to include both versions on blu-ray. Spielberg did it with the dvd set of E.T. It had the totally inferior cut where he took out the guns and put in walkie talkies on one disc, and the original, classic E.T. on another disc. I have never seen a director or celebrity that ignored the wishes of the people that made them what they are more than Lucas. I'll just have to pick up the 2 disc sets from a few years ago. They may not be anamorphic, but at least they're the true versions of the movies.

It has been so many years since I've seen the films, films which absolutely defined my childhood, that I'm probably going to be viewing them soon through less than reputable means. It would be nice to separate myself from this nonsense and to tap into the innocent, unvarnished joy these films once held for me.

I hear you and that's partially why I haven't seen them; I don't think I could help but view those films with a jaundiced eye. As an example, I honestly never had an issue with the Ewoks and they seemed perfectly reasonable. Nowadays it seems to be the in-thing to rag on them and yet comments like those from Tippett would make me question the intention and purpose of those characters, making the criticisms seemingly valid. Of course, his changing of the music in Jedi like the barge bit or the incredibly stupid change of Yub Nub to that totally boring and bland flute thing was the last straw for me. That song was the only reason why I asked for the Jedi score before I even had a CD player because it was so cool.

He should have moved on or at the very least let other, capable directors play in the universe. It sucks to think that films like Howard the Duck, The Golden Child, Labyrinth, and Willow, movies that had good intentions but lacked in execution, turned him into this profit-maximizing egomaniac, especially since I kind of like Howard the Duck! Damn you Lucas!

Of course he was. He was basically trying to say that Phil Tippett's comments ruin the notion that all the UOT fanatics are pathetic losers and nerds.

The state of Tippett's career should certainly be factored into his comments. Tippett's entire field of expertise (stop motion) was pulled out from under him and he's gone from being one of the biggest names in special effects to a middle-of-the-pack CGI guy. Of course he is going to be anti-CGI.

On Amazon's best seller list, neither of the individual trilogy sets are in the top 50 (Original Trilogy was at 68, Prequel Trilogy not in the top 100). This doesn't really surprise me, as the major draw of this release is the Complete Saga. The Complete Saga had been number one for quite some time. I see it's dropped to number two (behind X-Men: First Class).

First, I never thought I'd see the day where the release of Star Wars on Blu was second to ANYTHING.

Second, number two is nothing to sneeze at, but does this indicate there really IS a significant amount of pre-order cancellations?

Havent posted here in a while, but just found out about all the turmoil that has been going on in the past week with all the changes to the OT especially Jedi.

I just want to say: Thank God I don't get worked up anymore with Lucas changes, as I stopped caring about the sequels and prequels awhile back. I got sick of all the shit that he has done so i went back to being just a Star Wars 77 fan of the original movie, and thats all I care about anymore. That movie was always my favorite, although Empire is just as good, but whenever I watched the Empire, Jedi or even if the PT was on TV, all of the bullshit comes back: Constant tinkering to the OT, bad PT ties in to the OT, and a failure to release the OOT in great quality, etc.

I am not touching this set, as I'm sure the Deleted Scenes will be on Youtube someday, so I can wait. I still watch The Original Star Wars (OOT Version) all the time, and just think of the movie the same way I saw it in 1977 as a kid where Darth Vader and Leia WERE NOT related Luke. Sadly, Lucas has fucked up everything about Star Wars with the constant tinkering, and it just isn't worth it to be a fan of all the movies anymore and hope for the OOT to be released because with his constant changes I firmly believe he resents the older fans now and is doing this shit to spite us.

Yesterday, I dragged out my 2006 editions with the non-anamorphic cuts on the "bonus disc". I watched 'em zoomed on my 42" LCD, and ya know, they weren't horrible. I don't think I'd want to watch them on my 60" Kuro, but I can live with them on the smaller set. If this is the only way I can watch the OOT, then so be it.

I'm not cancelling my pre-orders on the Complete Saga or the OT, because I ordered them from B&N during one of their sick 50% off sales a long time ago at $44 and $22 respectively. However, they will be up on the 'Bay shortly after they are in hand.

Nice roundup of the changes, screenshots, most of them I don't mind at all. This release isn't the homerun I was hoping for (missing documentaries, a few bad alterations) but overall I'm still looking forward to it. The black levels/shadow detail does look better (though probably still too dark), and the audio mix sounds like it's a major improvement. (changes aside)

Didn't make enough money; not really a fault of the movie per se. I should have added "varied faults" to that statement as Labyrinth is a good film.

I don't mind a change like Wicket's new CG eyes. But it's just so anal. It's ridiculous that Lucas is so anal about such a minor thing, yet he half-assed or simply didn't fix other, more pressing issues.

The new Krayt call is just ridiculous and over the top. The "No" from Vader in Jedi ruins the scene.

They can add pupils to Ewoks but they can't fix Vader's dialogue so he doesn't make a hand gesture after speaking.

It's like the old saying "they can put a man on the moon but they can't..."

Also, don't expect the lightsabers in "Empire" to be consistent. They are 'fixed' only in certain shots and it's almost done randomly.
The vast majority of the time they are as dull (and Vader's is still pink) as the 2004 versions.

The one and only shot where it looks just right, is when Vader just goes nuts and slashes away at Luke, hitting both walls furiously. Both sabers in that one quick shot are spot-on and look great.

Another thing they failed to notice was the fact that the background on Cloud City, when Lando escorts the group to the dining room where Vader is waiting, is still inconsistent: The establishing shot shows the new background with the elevator, but all subsequent shots such as the ones where the Stormtroopers surround them after Vader takes Solo's blaster from him, are the original 1980 theatrical set background unchanged.

The new incinerator where Chewie finds 3P0's parts was replaced with a badly animated CGI incinerator.
