Ah, classic Gizmo. "I don't care about this thing, and therefore anyone who does has no life/is an idiot/is infantile."

When I heard that SW was coming to BD, I hoped it would have the OOT. It didn't, so I didn't buy it. If the OOT is released in high quality on BD, you bet your ass I'll buy that.

re: Star Wars

The OOT would sell big numbers, at least what are considered big numbers in 2015 on BD. Will everyone that bought a 2011 set buy it again? Probably not.

And then you'll be able to properly function day by day!

I don't recall ever saying anything like that. I said I would not buy it since I'm essentially happy with the current set available now and I don't care about the alterations that have been done as much as other people (raping my childhood, Luca$ bla bla bla that goes on in nearly every thread). But I guess it's just easier to attack me then have an actual discussion on it.

Come on, you really can't see how your comments came off to most people?

And it's not an insult. You've got a history of stuff like that.

Personally, I'm waiting for JJ Abrams to rape our adulthood in about 10 years.

JJ was handed horrible screenplays by Orci and Kurtzman and still made entertaining (albeit problematic) movies out of them. He's got a much better screenwriter this time around.

You are right. I don't think Hitchcock or Kurosawa could have made a good film out of a Orci/Kurtzman script. But Abrams is still the main reason we have Damon Lindelof working in Hollywood so I can still dislike him for that.

JJ Abrams destroyed my adolescence with those awful lens-flare-enfused, like-everygenre-film Star Trek movies. Star Wars can have him.

Orci and Kurtzman are hacks who write what their producers and directors tell them to write. Abrams was a producer on both Star Trek films and was actively involved with all aspects of story development. He was not a for-hire director who showed up on the set one day and was handed a crummy Orci/Kurtzman script that he couldn't do anything about.

Abrams gave Orci and Kurtzman one of their earliest big breaks when he hired them as head writers on Alias. He's kept them close ever since, and is largely responsible for their rise through Hollywood.

My sons will not know that Star Wars even exists until the original trilogy is properly restored. There's plenty of other content available to occupy their time with instead. Hell, we have five decades worth of Star Trek to get through before they'll even hear the name George Lucas.

I don't think you'll be doing them any favors by giving them DUNE instead of STAR WARS.

That will basically be impossible unless you lock them in a basement their whole childhood.

re: Star Wars

If marketed and treated properly, the OOT could be one of the biggest releases and sellers on BD. And Disney know how to market.

I am a holdout and have not bought any Star Wars movies since the pitiful versions of the OOT were released several years ago. I sold that set several months ago for a decent amount since the bootlegs blew those releases out of the water.

I would love to have the OOT properly and officially released but I am not losing any sleep over not having them. The old feelings I had for Star Wars died many years ago.

Yep, all they have to say is "Available for the first and only time on Blu-ray...then threaten to lock it in the 'vault' three months after release." They throw some exclusive extras on there (like the Star Wars Holiday Special) and it's all $$$.

Especially now that the new film is coming out. I tried to divorce myself from it all until the OOT came out, but it permeates pop culture so heavily that it's everywhere.

re: Star Wars

I was watching select scenes from the Phantom Menace last night - yes, it's still bad - but really the highlight is the audio - I forgot how boisterous and the dynamic range of the music and sound effects are, the EX tracks throws the sound around everywhere to wild excess, notably during the climatic end battle sequence

Yes. What's your point?
