If Lucas is holding off on remastering the original non-altered trilogy until a financially lucrative moment, exactly how many decades will that take? I doubt even George Lucas believes that he'll live forever. At the current rate, he's going to die before he can reap the rewards from this brilliant strategy of his.

Didn't George Lucas get killed during the filming of The Empire Strikes Back? I believe this is why Empire (IMO) was the best of all the films.

TFN says the info should be out at 9am ET tomorrow. Would be nice if they show the case covers for each movie, I don't care for the 2004 dvd covers. Original VHS covers were the best!

I'm still holding on to the hope that they will surprise us with an announcement that the original theatrical editions (or at least the earlier special edition versions) will be included in the set. If we can't get the original versions I'd at least prefer the earlier special editions over the more recent updates.

You're not likely to get either the 97 or 04 editions on this Blu-ray. Instead, there will be all-new changes to the films, including the prequel trilogy.

Why do you prefer the 1997 over the 2004? ESB '97 has Luke scream when he let's go. Elimating that "fix" is the best thing about the 2004 versions. It also proves that Lucas is open to "undoing" some of his fixes.

Oh, I don't know... maybe because they are closer to being the original versions than the 2004 editions were. More than anything, I can't stand the changes to Return of the Jedi towards the end of the film.

I would love the Christmas special, even if just on dvd. So would every Star Wars fan out there. It would definately be a lot better than all the bootlegs we've had to deal with in the last 30 years.

I think most of the changes to the 1997 special editions were for the best. The Han/Greedo scene is better, CGI Jabba is much better, and as Mabuse noted the dreaded scream is gone from ESB.

The only bad changes (in my opinion) are the new dialog between the Emperor and Vader in ESB and replacing Sebastian Shaw with Hayden Christiansen in ROTJ.

I was a die hard OOT guy forever, but my stance has softened quite a bit recently. I still wholeheartedly prefer the version that most of us grew up with (I'm 33)...but I don't hate the special editions like I used to. I still find the films entertaining enough that I pre-ordered the entire saga on BD with the B&N 50% coupon. It will be interesting watching the prequels again as I haven't seen them in years due to my distaste for all three. They each have their moments, but as a whole they just didn't do it for me. In fact, I find the Clone Wars cartoon more entertaining than most of the stuff in the prequels. I'm sure I'm a bit biased since my son loves it so much...but it's damn entertaining at times.

The Clone Wars has some awesome stuff in it. If you're a fan of the movies and haven't seen the cartoon, you're foolish. The CG is just as good, if not better, then any CG animated film.

I love everything I've seen of The Clone Wars so far. At first I wasn't entirely sold on the design but I've really come around on it (though I still don't think Obi-Wan looks right). Story-wise, there's lots of action but they also have a lot of character and plot development. And where characters might be shoehorned into cameo appearances in the movies, the nature of being an episodic TV series allows for things to be satisfactorily explored. Plus, Ahsoka Tano may be my favorite character who didn't originate in the OT. She rocks. I'm dreading finding out what became of her.

Initial announcements have said special features will be ~30 hours total.

6 movies x ~2+ hours/movie = 13 hours of commentary (I'm assuming they count that towards the total)

That leaves 17 hours for deleted scenes, docs, etc. Slightly less than 3 hours per movie. That seems like a large number!

If I dare hope that the unaltered originals are counted as special features, then that would leave 10+ hours per movie of deleted scenes, docs, etc., which doesn't seem like quite enough time or 6 movies given all the previous content we've seen.

It's times like this, I'm thankful I'm a Star Trek fan first and foremost. Paramount was kind enough to allow the original versions of the classic series on the Blu-ray editions without "pulling a Lucas" and jerking the fanbase around with just digitally tinkered versions.

(Then again they were charging $100 a season for the shows for the longest time).

I was a big fan of Clone Wars for the first couple seasons, but my interest in it dropped a lot this season. I deprogrammed it from my DVR to go on vacation and didn't add it back.

I could be wrong, but don't they count the commentary ALONG with the movie running time. So essentially, there is 26 hours of movies/commentaries?

So that would leave 4 hours of footage (documentaries, trailers, etc.)

The second half had some of the best episodes of the show so far. Not sure what happened in the first half but the second will certainly win you back.

The real reason why Paramount put the originals on Blu was because those were the only versions that had film prints to make an HD master from. The previous dvd releases where created in SD, and in order to bring those to HD the effects have to be recreated.

I, too, am more of a Trekker than a Star Wars fan, but there's just no way I can endorse the notion that Paramount hasn't been just as exploitative of their franchise. Between several re-issues across various home video formats and disproportionately high MSRPs, there have been countless complaints by the Trek fan base over the years.

I was excited when I heard Paramount was spending the money to let Robert Wise tinker with Star Trek: The Motion Picture, which I thought elevated a boring movie to a nearly-enjoyable one. While I wasn't wowed by what they let Nicholas Meyer do with The Wrath of Khan and The Undiscovered Country, I was pleased they gave him some money and leeway, too. But then, they cut off that cooperation when it came to the three movies directed by Nimoy and Shatner, and it's long been postulated that the whole reason was that contractually if they gave it to Nimoy they'd have to give it to Shatner, and they didn't want to fund any attempt to improve The Final Frontier. Say what you will about Lucas, but at least he's an equal opportunity tinkerer!

Back to Star Wars, I'm eagerly awaiting this morning's release. I'm ready to be enthusiastic about Star Wars again.
