re: Star Wars
I've decided that I probably won't boycott this release, but the changes (mostly the "NOOOOOO") bother me enough that I'll wait until a time that I can buy it at a sub-$50 price.

re: Star Wars
How funny would it be if they end up taking this new version OOP right after release and were to do a free swap of ROTJ discs for non-"NOOOOOOOO" versions - making this version the ultimate collectable!
Won't happen, but fun to speculate.

Lucas reminds me of when I first started out as a writer. I revised my very first short story after it had already been published and was very proud of the changes. My agent read it and said:
"I don't ever want you to do this again. If you do, you will never write anything new for the rest of your life."

Most of the changes from 1997 through 2004 haven't bothered me much, but some of the changes he's made now really are bothering the hell out of me. Mainly the stupid "NOOO", what is the reason for it? I'm very sure he is aware of the outcry over Vader saying that in ROTS so why would he include AGAIN in a movie where it was NEVER present?? Does he even listen to his fans? Sorry, that was a stupid question.

re: Star Wars
I often wonder what the work environment is like over at Lucasfilms. I mean, there's no way all his employees approve of these changes. I'm willing to bet most hate them. Is he so insulated by glad-handing bullshitters that nobody dares to contend his ideas?
I realize that's more than likely a rhetorical question.

And this will likely be the answer for most folks. It's easy to boycott at 90 bucks. Three years from now, when it's obvious that this is the only HD answer available and the price has dropped, you'll see folks caving right and left.

Movies.com: Us fans bitch and moan and gripe whenever George Lucas starts messing with Star Wars again, but is that something effects people who actually worked on the film feel? Are we the only ones who think he's a crazy person?
Phil Tippett: No, not really. At a certain point, even going back to Return of the Jedi at ILM...they had a little room where you could get chips and drinks and I was getting something. George and Richard Marquand, the director, came in and Richard was saying, "George, I don't totally get where we need to go with this picture." And George said, "Well, did you see Benji?" "No George, I didn't see Benji." "Well, what we're doing now is kind of like a cross between Benji and what we did on Empire Strikes Back."

Also in the same article he was much more brief about the new versions:
"They're shit", and he loved Lucas' original, Sergio Leone-like approach to shooting Mos Eisley as this minimal, barren place and how now it's just "filled with a bunch of... CGI shit."

re: Star Wars
For destroying something I love, George Lucas has all the hate I can muster from the depths of my being.

Not that this is a badge of honor, but I haven't bought a SW release since the original and SE VHS sets were released. It's not that hard if you just remember how shitty some of the changes are.
(For the sake of full disclosure, I did rent the originals from Netflix--the bonus discs with the LD copies.)
