Re: Walt Disney Animated classics 2011 Bluray plans
Dude, I've got Crohn's disease. I can't even go to the bathroom without the immediate fear that I'll discover I need medical attention. The most promising class of medications are being discovered as carcinogens and God-fearing Republicans want to halt the stem cell research that has the potential to make a difference in my quality of life. Whether Disney erases sex in the sky of The Lion King doesn't even exist on my continuum of concerns.
Other than "Morning Report," the tweaks cited are really things that probably should have been done originally and were overlooked. They don't affect the artistic merits of the film any more than digitally removing visible wires or reflections of off-set personnel and equipment.
Speaking of money grabs, I look forward to you making good on your $20 bet.

Re: Walt Disney Animated classics 2011 Bluray plans
do you really want to go here buddy boy! i mean really?
Not only have i seen the movie in theatres durring its original theatrical run, I saw it at the El cap at the world premiere. The changes in animation that were done for dvd special edition have been undone for the 3D bluray release, it is the true theatrical cut. I like how YOU who havent seen the 3D version of the movie yet have the gull to tell me that ive never seen the original theatrical cut in theatres. Not only have i seen it but i owned the vhs, the laser disc, the dvd as well. and and i stand by what i said the movie looked great last monday night in 3D. I trust my own eyes more than i trust you or josh.
And dont tell me i dont care about presentation, I was a union projectionist at the most famous theatre in the world for over a decade. Presentation is very important to me.

I hope you're right about the IMAX changes being reversed. So just to clarify, I'm not talking about Morning Report. I'm talking about the Mufasa clouds and the aligators during I Just Can't Wait... Those have all been switched back to how they looked in 1994? That would be great.

If the touch-ups, re-animation, and re-drawing have been reversed in the 3D version then that is great news and a step in the right direction...but it's still in 3D which is a massive alteration to a film that was never intended to be seen that way.

anyways getting back to what i said no one is forecing you to watch it in 3D, you can watch it in 2D, you get both options so to me complaining about it in 3D is unnecessary, you have the choice not to watch it that way.

whatever man, iam posting on a forum from my phone, i am sure your posts are always perfect to. geesh got to love when a persons only defense is to nitpick because someone doesnt always have perfect grammar and spelling on thread on an annonomous forum. (which arent their rules about that in the posting guidelines.)

I fail to see how anything you've said here is helpful to the discourse of this thread about Disney Animated Bluray plans. Take your concerns to the politics forum or better yet a different web site. This is the HD forum and we're talking about Disney BluRay. The discussion is going to go into the minutia of Disney to ensure we get the best quality presentation. That's just the nature of this place and you know it.
Frankly, people like you, the "I don't care" people, need to pipe down. If you don't care then say nothing. Those of us who DO CARE don't want our pleas to Disney to be shouted down by folks who, by their own admission, don't give a fuck. Who decides?
One more thing: Don't accuse me of standing in the way of you getting what you want from a company that owes you nothing. I haven't directed any statement toward Disney calling for them to withhold from you the original composition. I have, however, failed in my feeble attempt to contextualize how important this issue really is.
I do not speak for all fans, and neither do you. This kind of debate serves the purpose of helping to define the seriousness of the issue to fans of the film at large.
What if someone decides that Bambi should have originally had more CGI missle launching fighter jets?

It's funny. You can tell 3D isn't the "be all end all". When Disney "spruced up" Lion King for IMAX they made all these "ideal changes". Ten years latter they remove all those changes and make new 3D changes. I'm sure in 10 more years when 3D is done they'll undo those changes. As long as we get the original film when the dust settles then I can't complain.

Who appointed you the arbiter who gets to decide that substantial changes to the artwork and animation of the movie "don't affect the artistic merits of the film," pray tell?

Also, I was appointed by the bastion of film merits, Armond White. I cannot explain how this happened, any more than I can explain why I'm right and you're wrong. You're just going to have to defer to me and accept it.
More seriously, though, I believe it's pretty solid and reasonable position to put forward that technical clean-ups are a different class of tweaks from story changes. "Morning Report" is the only story change cited thus far in this thread. Everything else amounts to a technical clean-up. If we were discussing a live action movie, most of these things wouldn't merit much more than, "Oh, they fixed that" reaction. It's a mistake to view animation as so different that its technical components are story components.

Agreed. It is like calling switching a gun for a walkie talkie "technical cleanup".

Re: Walt Disney Animated classics 2011 Bluray plans
the only difference is that its been converted to 3D, and they did an excellent job at that.
can we get back to what i intended this thread to be, and not bicker about this anymore, its obvious neither of you are going to change the other ones opinon, if i had known that posting my thoughts of the 3D screening of Lion King I went to was going to cause this back and fourth i would have just kept what i saw to myself, and to my friends.
geesh you would think this was highdefdigest or something.

Yeah, Amity. I'm glad you posted. It's great to hear that the changes made for IMAX have been undone. I just hope you're right. Thank you for posting.

according to Dolby's website The Lion King has not only undergone the 3D process but the soundmix is now discrete 7.1 (as well as the bluray edition)

From Laughingplace.com. Not exactly "animated classics" but I'll probably upgrade my current versions.
Bolt, Meet the Robinsons, Chicken Little, G-Force Coming to 3D Blu-Ray Nov 8
(August 5, 2011) Leading the way in the advancement of 3D entertainment and continuing its commitment to the growing Blu-ray 3D™ market, The Walt Disney Studios today announced release plans to add four new titles to its growing in-home Blu-ray 3D line-up.

I thought I was going nuts. I found a used copy of this a week or so ago at Half Price Books, and then I start seeing it in the ads for release next Tuesday so I was thinking it was just a re-release. Weird that someone would get it as an exclusive and then sell it off so quickly.
