You're right, I hadn't made the connection, Universal, shoddy 'upgrades' and movie cash promos! Still, I was interested in this because I never bought the first movie, so if they give me the "upgrade" for $10 AR with $10 in Movie Cash, I'd consider it. If I see the terms, I'll post them.

Mayhem, I think I saw English Patient on 'sale' for $21.99, so it would be $14.99 after the discount, ymmv of course. The offer was in a stack of flyers near the cash register, there were no coupon codes, expiration dates or any other details.

What's this about? Is it an in store coupon or does the registar recognize the discount automatically? What's the price of the English Patient? Also at the Wherehouse as well?

So, my advice is to look for it instore, the flyer is about 4 X 6, with pictures of Cold Mountain, The English Patient and Chicago. All it says is: "Buy Cold Mountain and instantly save $7 off The English Patient or Chicago." This was at an FYE store, I have no idea if it would be good at Wherehouse.

A little OT, but does anyone know if Dave Matthews: Live at the Gorge CD/DVD set is on sale or with rebate at FYE this week?

My FYE would not sell me the new version of the English Patient. In fact, they didn't even have it on the shelves. I asked for it, and they said, "It may be in the back. We have lots of boxes of stuff back there." I didn't press them too much because the old DVD was the one that was pictured, and they said it wouldn't apply to the new one. Did anyone have any luck getting the new English Patient in the $7 off deal?

I've been on vacation but I went into FYE today when I saw it was the last day to get the $10 rebate on Secret Window. The price, however, went up to $21.99 on July 1 so the after rebate price would end up being $11.99 plus tax/stamp.

I got three emails for the rebates, but I'm not sure which movies they are for. Maybe after I investigate further I'll see a place where it tells me.

Another lousy week..

I saw these 2 last weekend on a sign near the entrance of my local FYE, they seem like they might be a longer duration rebate, like the Last Samurai one in June .

that's comin' out on 8/10/04 so we won't know until then. We know rebate deals for some upcoming releases but that's usually only new release movies, not catalog titles or re-releases.

Wow. That is pretty lousy. There wasn't really anything I wanted this week other than The Dreamers, and I figured that was going to be a longshot for a rebate deal. I'll just wait for FOX to lower that one to $19.99 MSRP and try to get a good deal on it in one of those BB 2 for $20 deals in six months.

Hmm, that's what I thought, but then I just placed a preorder for it on DigitalEyes and they have it listed as:

"Street Date: 07/20/04"

Maybe it is a different version. I was hoping the movie cash for Alien Vs. Predator would be in it.

Should all the stores have a list of upcoming rebates? My local FYE has up some of the posters for big titles like The Passion but when I asked about other titles the guy said that on anything that does not have a poster up they don't know till the rebate slips come in. I pre-ordered Drama Queen and Havana Nights but the guy didn't know anything about a rebate on them and he didn't even have a pre-order number for them but told me that they will have the movies in on tuesday like normal. Anyone else have this happen? Will they have the rebate or not? This is the FYE in southcenter mall in the Seattle area.

Well, they should have a master list, I've seen it, as have others. When I've done preorders in fact, they usually have to get a bar code off of it. But the store clerk is also right in that they seem to do some stuff at the last minute as well, either change rebate amounts or pre rebate prices or new things show up that weren't on the master list. So, to answer your question, we'll find out tomorrow!

Thanks for the reply, I called today just to see if I got a new answer and the guy said Drama Queen, Starsky and Hutch and Aqua Teen all for sure have rebates but Havana Nights was not on that rebate slip, but might be on another they had not yet gotten. He did not say how much the rebates are for and I did not think to ask.

Yet another cruddy week, though maybe the lousy release schedule has something to do with it. I did not see a rebate on Dirty Dancing: Havana and the COATDQ rebate was only $5, so there may be some variation between Strawberries and FYE this week, or maybe they just changed their minds.

Strawberries

Starsky & Hutch 19.99 + tax - $10 MIR
Confessions Teenage Drama Queen 19.99 + tax - $5 MIR
Aqua Teen Hunger Force,S2 24.99 + tax - $5 MIR

Additional pre order info:
8/17/04 Johnson Family Vacation 19.99 + tax - $10 MIR + can get Bill Cosby Himself DVD for 6.99

Non-FYE/Strawberries deals

$5 Coupon on The Big Bounce when you buy Starsky and Hutch and Big Bounce at the same time. Big Bounce is $20.99 this week with no rebate.

$5 MIR when you buy Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights and Dirty Dancing Ultimate Edition.

Parago's phone # is 877-266-6483

Press #2 for non-Staples rebates. Then press "0" to get a CSR.

I'm adding this info to the first post.

Today I got my FYE rebate for the Cooler. It was $8, not $10, despite my putting a note in with it saying I knew people were getting the wrong amount and I did not want that to happen.

Do I call the above number or another? I know it's in the thread but who knows how many pages ago. TIA.

And here's some more bad news, while we're at it. Local Strawberries just put an enormous sticker over front window banner advertising Passion of the Christ(aka Jesus Chainsaw Massacre) with new price 14.99 AR(up from 9.99 AR previously). It's not like I was going to buy it anyway(way OT, but when did all the extremists in this country start getting their own movies??? that includes you Michael Moore fans), but given the lousy rebates the last few weeks, I'm just wondering whether they may be starting to scale back the rebate program.

It sure as heck seems like it. At the beginning of the summer you could get almost every new release, both new new and new catalog titles, for the lowest possible price at any B&M store after the rebate. It was great and I took advantage of it a handful of times. But it seems like after their massive Father's Day box set rebate deal there's just been absolutely nothing. I was surprised that things like the Millennium box set among others didn't have a rebate, and the few that have had them lately haven't been very good deals. Earlier this summer you could get any new movie for $10 to $12 bucks but that seems to be no more. Maybe they found that many more people were actually claiming the rebates than they expected. After all, the whole advantage to doing mail in rebates is that most people never actually send them in...

That's not surprising. Remember Kmart was the consistent loss leader for months early this year and last year. Then poof, they went back to "normal" pricing. Every store seems to get hot then cold after a while.
