To add to Sernov's South Florida filmings:

2 Fast 2 Furious was filmed quite a bit down here...one of the major driving sequences was filmed on the high way (I-75) that I use to get to work out in the Everglades...boy did that delay me, but I got some cool pics too.

Also, I THINK some of Bad Boys 2 was filmed down here around Ft. Lauderdale, was it not? Didn't witness that at all....

On a slightly different neighborhood, a movie was filmed where I went to military school. Taps (with Sean Penn, Timothy Hutton, Tom Cruise and others) was filmed at Valley Forge Military Academy. I did not attend there until years after though. It's funny to watch the flick, see them in a room and say "That's in Wheeler Hall" (or wherever), and then they walk out the door and they're literally halfway across campus.

I know that's a classic occurance in tons of flicks, though only one I can recall reading about would be Ferris Bueller's Day Off being in Chicago, and that they'll be driving in one part of town, make a right turn and be clear across town. Amusing stuff I tell ya!

Most amusing is that Ferris Bueller's house is actually in Long Beach, CA

I was born in Drogheda where Cal was filmed.

One scene in the Harrison Ford/Kristen Scott Thomas clunker "Random Hearts" was shot a few blocks from my house. It was a car drive by shot - nothing spectacular, but cool nonetheless to see on the big screen.

Re: Movies Filmed in Your Neighborhood

I think everybody should go to the internet movie data base (I am not allowed to post URL's) and create and account there. All the movies listed there have a field for filming locations, and you can submit updates there.

My Favorite Martian:
was filmed in Santa Barbara where I went to High School. The TV station was KEYT channel 3 although it was channel 10 in the movie.

"Sunset pier" where they had the senior citizen tanning competition was actually Stearns Wharf.

Re: Movies Filmed in Your Neighborhood

In my hometown, they made a TV movie called "Finish Line" starring James Brolin, Josh Brolin and Mariska Hargitay. This was in the late 80s. Pretty bad movie but kind of topical now about steroid use.

Other than that, the town over "Without Limits" with Billy Crudup, Donald Sutherland and Monica Potter was filmed...

Re: Movies Filmed in Your Neighborhood

As a Monmouth County, NJ resident my whole life it's pretty given that Kevin Smith has shot a lot of stuff here. The opening and climax of Dogma was right in front of Red Bank Catholic High School, the Quick Stop in Leonardo, the credits in Clerks II where they show the clown (sign for the Spirits liquor store on 35), Jack's Music Shoppe in Chasing Amy, etc. I don't think I know someone who isn't an admirer of the man in this whole area.

Another note: a few episodes from the fourth season of The Sopranos were shot literally minutes from Oceanport, where I live. They shot the racetrack stable scenes when Tony gets the horse at Monmouth Park in Oceanport (about the only thing people know the town exists for ), and Tony and Carmela's beach house in the last episode is located over in Sea Bright. The Pope of Greenwich Village also shot its racetrack scenes at Monmouth Park.

Annie shot in part at Monmouth University in West Long Branch back in the early 80's.

Recently, I saw The Wrestler with my cousin, who pointed out several areas he's familiar with, notably the dollar store Rourke goes to before the hardcore match, several of the Rahway locations, and also was telling me he has been to the strip club seen in the movie. It's also very easy to spot Asbury during one of the pivotal scenes. Another note: when
Spoiler:
Randy works at the deli, it's at an Acme supermarket, a chain VERY predominant in this neck of the woods.

One of my mom's good friends saw Tom Cruise and Steven Spielberg picking up Chinese food in Freehold, NJ while filming War of the Worlds.

Another interesting note that may or may not count: Aqua Teen Hunger Force apparently takes place in Keansburg, NJ, home of a notable water park and a lot of people similar to Carl from that show.

This shot and all (probably) the outside scenes of the mental institution is really a convent (St. Anne's) that's just a few miles down the same road from where I live. They had to cut down all the trees along the driveway, and planted new ones within the last year.

Re: Movies Filmed in Your Neighborhood

They shot some scenes from The Departed by me in Williamsburg, notably the candy store where Frank buys young Colin's groceries. Also, the scene where Leo knocks that guy in the mouth as he reaches for a cigarette. I spent a day hanging around the set. Was about 2 inches away from Ray Whinstone for a bit while he chatted with the crew by the snack table and actually met and got an autograph from Martin Scorsese. Saw a lot of Leo as well, but did not get very close, the paparazzi were there and hounded him a bit whenever he stepped outside on the set.

Also, the Dry Cleaners in this episode of Flight of the Conchords was shot in my neighborhood. I actually stumbled upon it as I walked home from a morning jog and asked what they were shooting and they said, "A new HBO show called Flight of the Conchords"...I really like the show and got a kick out of it when the episode aired.

Re: Movies Filmed in Your Neighborhood

I made a thread similar to this awhile back, but I'm too lazy to find it (and this one is older). When I worked for a short while in North Bend, WA, upon driving in I was stunned to realize that it was the same area as the beginning of the terrible Vanishing remake with Kiefer Sutherland, Jeff Bridges and Sandra Bullock. I had watched it just recently and it was really trippy to recognize it, because I hadn't picked up on the fact that the movie was shot nearby.

A scene from "Pumpkin"('02) was filmed right in my old apartment building in the same neighborhood.

From FilminAmerica.com

Indiana Jones and The Temple Of Doom: The Shanghai airport scenes were shot at Hamilton Air Force Base, just east of the Ignacio section of Novato, possibly on or around 8 September 1983.

Star Wars: Episode VI Return Of The Jedi: The celebration at Mos Eisley at the end of the Special Edition was shot in front of a large blue screen at a warehouse parking lot in the Bel Marin Keys section of Novato.

I knew that movies had been shot here before but not many and not any recently that I could recall.

There's only one location on that list that I could actually take you to.

Awesome, I had no idea Near Dark was partly filmed here. I love that movie.

Re: Movies Filmed in Your Neighborhood

Frozen River was filmed just a few minutes down the road from where I live, and What Lies Beneath largely took place on and around the Lake Champlain area here.

A bit less local yet still considered "near by" in this rural part of the state, the revisionist Star Trek: New Voyages episodes are filmed about 50 miles south of here.

Re: Movies Filmed in Your Neighborhood

A couple years after I moved out of Tampa a bunch of Punisher was shot on and around my college campus. It was kind of fun to spot stuff "That's not a movie theater, it's our drama studio" or "That's not a nightclub, it's a bank."
