Same.... it might piss off the die hards, but this movie is meant to capture new interest and a bigger fanbase. So, will the Trek fans let those of us in who don't necessarily care about the previous movies, continuity, etc?

This may sound strange, but the vibe I'm getting from this trailer is that this is going to be based on the old Gold Key Star Trek comic books more than the movies/TV series. More action, a real retro-future look, more one dimensional characters, etc. The weird quasi-Enterprise with the two vertical nacelles looks like something straight out of these old comic books.

Hopefully, the young Kirk in the 1960's sports car thing is just for the trailer.

Zach Quinto's voice isn't doing it for me, he needs more bass when speaking as Spock.

Is it just me, or does the kid at the beginning say "James Siberius Kirk"?

I believe you mean the USS Kelvin, and the upper is the engineering hull and the lower is the nacelle, and personally I love the look of that ship more than the new Enterprise.

As for the trailer: it's not doing it for me. It may be an enjoyable side-trip into an alternate Trek universe, but I'm not seeing the big re-invigoration of the franchise this has been sold as.

I got enough goosebumps from the trailer to make me excited for the finished film. I didn't realize how focused this was on Kirk's journey, so I guess a lot of this will rest on Chris Pine's shoulders. The SFX look cool though so hopefully the story can match them.

Not to gloat but I'm seeing 30 min on Monday (presented by JJ no less) so I'll report back how that looked.

Initial thoughts:

Looks really good from that trailer. I'm a huge fan of the TOS characters (Wrath of Khan and Voyage Home are awesome, as is Undiscovered Country), and it looks like J.J. Abrams' spin on this will be fresh and be more Wrath of Khan than Final Frontier.

Need more Kirk/Spock to gauge a true opinion, but Spock bellowing "You will NOT lecture me!" was awesome.

Predictably, Simon Pegg's Scotty should be great, although I thought I heard him with an American accent.

I'm definitely enticed, as I was previously for the project. I'll be there opening night. Also, Paramount has a potential Iron Man-size hit on their hands.

He sounded Scottish to me. More than James Doohan did.

It is still too early to be sure, but this image alone was enough to give me goosebumps:

I'll definitely be there.

Great trailer and this looks like a GOOD Trek movie for a change. I'm of course the only person in the world to like "Enterprise" the best as TV series though...with TNG a close second. I could care less for anything else Trek related. Go JJ!

If you look carefully, the island from Lost is there.

I'm sure all of the changes will be massively kewl.

Change I *cannot* believe in.

From reading the EW story, it sounds like Paramount was the one pushing for changes to the formula, not Abrams.

Anyway, all the kvetching from the fanboys reminds me of all the doomsayers who kicked and screamed and protested about what an awful choice Daniel Craig was to play James Bond.

It's a good idea to wait until you've actually seen a movie to lambaste it.

I can't think of a single time in my life where I've ever gave a shit about Star Trek, but after seeing the trailer with Quantum of Solace tonight, I am officially excited for this movie. Looks fantastic!

I've seen enough and read enough to have an informed opinion, thanks.

These changes are made for the teens and twenty-somethings. Forgive me if I grow tired of every single fucking movie being aimed at this market.

I love how ST fanboys are crying foul, like someone is raping their childhood.

I am as much of a ST fan as the next guy, but a reboot was sorely needed for the franchise. There hasn't been a good ST movie since First Contact, and before that it was many, many years.

If it needs to be changed that much, then create something new. I know, that's unheard of in Hollywood these days, but seriously. These are not really the same characters.

Revel in Abrams and Paramount taking the original series and turning into something other than what it was, if it makes you feel like you've won some victory. I'm glad you're happy and that you relish my unhappiness. Nice.

Are you serious?

"For the love of god, don't do anything original or anything. Hell can you just remake TMP, that was really great."

Agree on the need for something fresh. I'm a ST fan also, and of course this movie could suck. But from what I've seen it shows promise. There are some things I'm really skeptical about, but I'll wait to see how it plays out.

I'll never get how some can shit on a movie so much before even seeing it. But whatever, they can have their voice.

I'll pay to see it.

Yeah, because that's what I'm saying.

There is a middle ground here. I know that the middle ground isn't so popular these days, but it is there. There are plenty of ways to reinvigorate the franchise without shitting on established characters like this.

I've seen enough of it, between the trailer and other stuff that has leaked, to know that I don't like what's been done with the characters. While other Trek incarnations may have been about quantum fluxes and Heisenberg compensators, TOS was always about the characters. And the characters were fine without trying to make them edgy and kewl.
