I feel the same way. Aside from the Padme/Anakin scenes in ROTS, the rest is okay. Sith is pretty solid. But Phantom Menace has not aged well at all and I know it's been said plenty before, but I absolutely loathe Jar Jar. He doesn't stop talking. And hearing him speak his shitty dialogue in DTS 6.1 makes it that much worse.

I blazed through the OT BD set. Then I started on TPM and got through about 45 minutes before I turned it off. Just absolute shit. They mailed it in big time on that one. Being the first Star Wars film in over 2 decades, Lucas knew we'd all pay to see whatever he put together.

They have already done secret test screenings of this. My friend saw one the other day in Austin. She is not a PT fan anyway, but she thought the 3D stuff was hard to even notice.

I absolutely love AOTC. The last 45 minutes is the most full on, all out, balls to the wall action of any 45 minutes of all 6 films.

Has the same problem as the rest of the PT. It's simply too long. It's hard to sit through most of that first 90 minutes to get to that last 45 minutes.

Yep, I can only assume Boba Fett will be front and center for the ESB 3D poster.

The one character in the movie that doesn't have enough screen time.

I'm honestly fine with watching in 2D. I'd just like to see these on the big screen again.

Since he's the only worthwhile character in the film, I'm not surprised.

It's a real shame since he could have been a great series villain. Imagine a three movie rivalry between him and Anakin. Anakin is obsessed with being greater than Darth Maul regardless of the personal cost. Once he does beat him, he's fallen so low that we have witnessed his gradual transformation into Darth Vader.

Of course that would have required Anakin not being a little tyke in the first film and Lucas sticking with his original idea that Qui Gonn was Obi-Wan's first apprentice who was killed by Darth Maul. That would have established the mentor/apprenctice dynamic between Obi-Wan and Anakin far sooner in the prequel trilogy. It would also help explain why Obi-Wan so blind to Anakin's fall by making it a willfull ignorance.

Oh well...

...But we got a lot of trade federation mumbo jumbo, some bullshit about taxes, and a lot of exciting senate council scenes so it all worked out for the best.

I can understand why people don't like the prequels, but sometimes when they share their ideas of how it could be better I'm baffled. How would THAT be an improvement? Ever heard of "less is more"? The reason you love Maul so much is because there's so little of him. If he was a costar in all three films you'd think he sucks.

As it is, the way they handled the dark side apprentices is one thing the prequels did perfectly. Maul is cruel, silent, and a great fighter--Dooku is sinister, sophisticated, and dresses in black with a cape--Greivous is more machine than man with a raspy voice and robotic body. When all three are dead Darth Vader becomes the new sith embodying the qualities of all three. Not genius, but certainly clever.

Oh, I don't buy that at all. As a kid, I loved Darth Vader and he appears throughout the OT quite a bit. I never once thought, "If only they showed less of him...."

I think RocShemp's premise sounds pretty cool.

FWIW, Grievous was never a Sith Lord, he was merely trained in lightsaber battle by Dooku.

How can something that sucked on opening night not "age well"? Is it possible for it to now be any less enjoyable?

This movie is indefensible. It is a monumental turd in every regard.

the reason the prequels sucked was that george lucas showed again that he writes the worst scripts and brings out the most boring performances out of his actors. when i was 7 - 12 years old i didn't notice it as much in the OT

he was so concerned with technology he forgot to write a decent story

I agree with RocShemp. Having a Maul arc over the PT would have tied the movies together a little better. That's a big problem with the current movies, they're like three sorta related stories in the same universe, instead of three flowing parts of the same story. The OT kinda suffers from that because the original was made as a one shot with Empire and Return added on afterwards, but Lucas should have known better with the PT.

He was also using his very young children as editors, or at least backboards for writing. His kids loved Jar-Jar so he made sure to add plenty of him, another reason he made Anakin so young instead of sticking with his favorite theme of repeating patterns and having him mirror Luke's age in ANH.

I do not hate the PT like so many others, I am disappointed with them. There are tons of great things in them, but alot of crap covering them up. The idea that Palpatine set in motion everything so far in the future is incredible, just how many of the things that the Jedi/Rebels "win" were actually foresaw and how much was just figured out on the spot? Episode II should have been the basis of the first episode with the discovery of Anakin in the first 1/4 of it and then the bulk of Ep2. Then they could have had EP2 devoted more to the Clone Wars and Anakin's flirtation with the dark side before his turning. I feel that Episode I was just too much of a waste and stupid premise to placate to his kids, while Ep2 and 3 were really good but had to cram too much stuff into 2 movies. We never get to see Tarkin besides him walking on the deck or any hints of why Vader is so low on the totem pole in ANH - Tarkin was in command and Vader is Palpatine's lackey.

The best I can come up for that is if you were to have the vice president on a naval ship. The captain or admiral would still be in command of the ship, even though the VP would still technically be over him.

Me, I like the clone wars cartoons. Given that if he would have done it there maybe or may not be a cartoon. This gives them 5 years or 5x22x21min each shows to work on the back ground of the clones, jedi, and the dark side. Why a movie would be about 2½ or 3 hours.

Vader and Tarkin. The movies they seem to know each other. In the clone wars they did know each other. In the case of Vader he known him as Anakin. Not only known him, but each like the others way of thinking. Look at it like this. If you started working with someone young and both of you stay at the same company. Even if you got a higher title then the same person you have known for years. You will in some case just let it be. Then again I did fire my father. Military is much stronger under war time. I think you see the point.
