I don't know about that, but I'll say she didn't do any better than Katie. Then again I was one of the few who liked Katie's performance and was sad to see her go. We'll see. In the end it probably won't matter much.

I think it's silly for people to wonder why Nolan didn't do a R-rated film...c'mon, that's just dumb thinking, it's a 70 years comic property, why add f-bombs and nudity?

People aren't looking for tits or f-bombs, they're looking for a bit more of the violent, gritty Joker (I always think of the crowbar scene in the comic "A Death in the Family")

From some of the spoilers I've heard, things could get VERY violent in this film. Whether they actually show them is another thing. I think it would add more terror to the Joker character.

Think of an R rating like what The Matrix got.

This was my point. Thank you for writing it out for me. From what I've read, they may have to tone some of the Joker scenes down or cut them slightly in order to stay within the PG-13 guidelines. Don't get me wrong, I full expect this movie and the Joker to be incredible, it just would have been cool to see this sick freak go all out, no holds barred.

oh, I am guessing they could bring in a different actor to play batman, and a different actor to play joker in a few years.

Or they could build it up so that a different character can take the mantle of the joker, there were at least 3 Robins in the comic books, the writers kept killing him off.


we dont even know what kind of joker he will be. frankly i would love it if jack nicholson came back somehow. i realize he is 90 years old, but jack could do it.

I think we've seen enough footage to be able to tell what he's going to be like, and how good he will be... does anyone want to dispute that?

"A Death in the Family" was approved by the Comics Code Authority, an organization far more restrictive than that MPAA.

Come on. I have high expectations like the rest of the net, but we've seen a whole minute of footage out of a two and a half hour movie. And yes he looks great in the makeup. He was a decent enough actor but I think people are getting ahead of themselves judging his performance before the first reel has spun.

Well I guess I should clarify that I don't NEED an R rating for this film... I'm pretty confident WB and Nolan can push the limits of the PG13 rating for this one and still accomplish the vision they set out for.

We already know, unless it gets re-edited, that the bank robbery scene had no blood in it.

Maybe Nolan did the old Scorcese trick and made a few scenes more violent than he intended, submitted it, got an R, then cut them out and got reduced to a PG-13.

Actually, only one of the Robins was killed off, #2, and that didn't "take", so to speak since he came back.

As for Jack coming back, please no. I don't think he did a good job as the Joker. He was actually playing himself in that movie.

Yeah, that's the one. Maybe they'll work it into the story somehow...like he's in this depressed state and hasn't been seen or heard from in awhile.

Sadly this seems to be the case when it comes to Superhero movies. They get absolutely cock-diesel for the first one, slightly less so in the second, and the third looks like they just got off the couch and walked onto the set. Tobey was jacked in Spidey, less so in Spidey 2 and in 3 he looked downright pudgy (and that was, sadly, the least of that movie's problems).

The notable exception to this is Hugh Jackman, who has gotten progressively bigger, and in Wolverine the guy looks to be able to lift a Volkswagon.

Now it could just be a bad image, or perhaps Batman's more of the lean-ninja-look he sometimes has, focusing more on finesse in this film than pure muscle (as he was a fucking tank in Begins). I'll reserve judgement until the film is released, but I have faith. Bale has more than earned the benefit of the doubt when it comes to being a dedicated actor who puts his all into a film and has repeatedly shown that he is more than willing to alter his physical appearance (to whatever end) for a role.

I remember reading somewhere a while ago that they altered Batman's fighting style slightly for TDK and that he had much more extensive and intensive martial arts training. Anyone who's studied fighting on a regular basis will tell you that it is one of the best workouts when it comes to toning you up, burning fat, and reducing bulk, so it's very possible that while he looks slighter while wearing loose-fitting civies, put him in the batsuit or show him shirtless and the dude could be a brick shithouse.

P.S. - I am perfectly comfortable with how gay I may have just sounded in that entire rant, as when it comes to my appreciation for Messieurs Nolan, Bale et all for doing the Dark Knight justice, I would TOTALLY take one for the team.

I know you're only joking, but if that idea were true - talking about a man's physique and how it relates to his portrayal of a character sounds 'gay', that's truly sad that anyone would think that way. Hey, I made a rhyme. ( Yay okay, what a nice day, eh?)

One example of someone with a constantly changing physical appearance is David Boreanaz while portraying Angel on both his own show, and Buffy. He never got 'fat' except for his face - the rest of him looked completely solid at times. Nowadays, he looks almost the way he did 10 years ago, but with five o'clock shadow - very thin compared to his latter days on ANGEL. Any long-time viewer of either show could look at any picture of him and be able to tell what season it was taken from. Some people are just different that way, I guess. All kinds of reasons to explain it, and not necessarily lack of commitment to the role.

just my two cents, Tobey looked too buff in SM1, just right in SM2, and a little "scrawny" for SM3, which made for a slightly puffy face. I'm a firm believer that they rushed the film and told Tobey "ah, fuck it, you're not gonna be shirtless in this one anyway."

That's actually the joke of it. My generation is so comfortable with the whole thing that we do find it ridiculous that the big "fear" among men is looking gay. I live in a house with 5 guys. All six of us are very much hetero, and yet there is so much homoerotic humor flying about the place that a casual outsider would most likely be very confused. It's the whole "no homo" gag that seems to be making its way around. You're not actually saying, "ew, no, I'm not gay", you're just pointing out that, "ha, what I said sounded very gay."

ex. (while hanging St. Paddy's decorations, my roommate said the following) "Dude, get your hands under these and give them support so they aren't flopping in your face.... no homo."


I agree with you, however, that it is pretty sad when people actually are so uber sensitive about making sure that everything they say has no inuendo at all, for fear of looking "queer." I made a rhyme too!




So anyway, back to topic.
