I think the cheapo knife suits this Joker better.

I think all this talk of him being a "knife collector" stems from a line in the trailer saying "his pockets were full of knives and lint," or something to that effect.

I wouldn't be surprised if in the finale, he has a really nice custom knife, but if he uses knives like other crooks use guns, it makes perfect sense, to me that he'd use cheap ones.

Well it makes sense because Dr Mabuse is a knife enthusiast. The Dr has given some great info on knives over in Otter.

i'm offended over the knife... well... ok... in the same way you might feel if a person acting like, or calling themselves, a cinephile or DVD collector preferred full screen pan & scan movies... it would irk the hell out of you right?...
Stanley Kubrick preferred full frame releases for his films on home video until widescreen became the norm. He said he wanted his films to fill the screen on video, and that meant full frame until this latest set of releases, which were made to take advantage of HDTVs.

so it irks the living hell out of me that he uses a 'pan & scan full screen' knife... i know it's trivial... and it won't take away from the movie for me i am going to see it the first weekend...
You're a knife enthusiast, but I don't know why you think the Joker is. Is it the "knives and lint" line? I don't think that means he likes to collect knives, I think it means the only thing he cares about is killing people, and he likes to do it up close and personal. If he were collecting the knives he wouldn't leave them stuck in his victims. On that level, it makes complete sense that he would use cheap, disposable knives.

then a knife movie comes along with a knife guy?... and it's a $20 POS...

bugs the hell out of me... but i'll let this idea go... since it seems to be going nowhere... funny thing is... no one on the knife forums "gives a shit" enough about a movie to discuss it much there either... so i'm screwed...

but this $20 knife thing pisses me off to no end...
But, again, it's not a $20 POS knife because Christopher Nolan is a cheap skate who doesn't care, it's an aesthetic choice based on The Joker's psychology. As somebody else pointed out, The Joker's clothes are practically rags. In The Dark Knight, The Joker is an anarchist. Why would he go out and spend thousands of dollars on expensive knives if cheap ones will work just as well?

I can understand where you're coming from, but I think in this case, Nolan's choice is justified.

Dark Horizon's reporting the runtime is nearly three hours, with speculation it'll end up at about 165min!

Good luck making $300 million when you can only show the movie three times a day. I'm betting Warners will insist on cutting it down to closer to 2 hrs...maybe 150 minutes at the most.

{Nerd Caveat} Run time is irrevalent to pacing, and it should serve the movie {Nerd Caveat}

That being said, WOO-HOO!

Man, I hope this ends up being the classic we all thing/hope it to be.

Highly unlikely. When Nolan signed on the dotted line, he has final cut.

Right, because Return of the King, which was even longer, didn't manage to make...oh wait it did.

Come now Shan, you know as well as I do that places will be getting at least three prints of this. At the same time, as long as there's available showtimes for the busiest times - 1:00, 4:00 and 7:00 hours - theatres should be fine. At my theatre I'm guessing we'll have a show around sixish, anther print sevenish, another print ninish. Also, we will have an empty adjoining theatre so we can play the same print in two auditoriums.

Theatres will be fine, and so will Warner.

I doubt he has final cut, almost no one does. But there's nothing wrong with extended run times. Look at most Harry Potters. You just need to show it one more screens. Considering there are tons of movie theaters out there, just bump one movie from said theaters and show Batman on an extra screen.

Forget Return of the King. What about that movie about the sinking ship?

The difference being people expect films like a Titanic or LOTR to be epic and three hours (you kinda mentally prepare for it).... what will the reaction be when they learn the latest Batman is that long?

As for myself, I couldn't be happier...I'm just sayin...

You're absolutely right about that.

I also couldn't be happier about this. This film is going to rock.

I would think people who are into the series would be happier to have more story for their money.

Based on how good the first one was, I can't imagine anyone complaining about this one being just a little bit longer.

3 times a day? The theater I frequent should be showing it on a minimum of 4-6 screens from noon to 11 PM, so that's at least 16-24 showings a day.

I now expect The Dark Knight to be epic and three hours. I'm trying to keep my expectations in check but it's real hard.
