It's been a while where I saw a film where people actually cheered and clapped during the film.

I went for a second viewing at an 11a show that was full and the crowd was dead. They didn't clap or cheer for anything. Actually, the only time they clapped was when the Dark Knight logo came up at the end. The previous group I sat with was really into the TDK and responded throughout the film.

It was a Saturday morning show so there were lots of families(with young kids) and older folks and I'm not sure if this intense film got to them.

Speaking of kids, this is NOT a kid's film and today I found myself cringing when I would see Parents with kids under 10 in tow. Maybe it was just me...

I also started wondering if the Dark tone of this film will cause a "Too Dark" backlash later down the line.

I'm happy I bypassed that audience. Just maybe I'll give them two out of five.

#1 was just so fucked up as it was completely unexpected and clever it was at the most a Keanu "Whoah" moment.

#2 was tacky (borderline silly), period.

#4 calls for no clapping. I'd say a huge sigh of relief if anything. That build up is obvious ... but extremely intense. I was locked down in my seat for quite a bit of the film and the ferry scene was another one of those moments.

Although I fully agree with the jumping out your skin moments you listed. I'd also add When I take in round 2 of the film I'll be interested to see how the rest of audience reacts ....

One of the most brilliant things about Nolan's movie (and there are hundreds of brilliant things about it) is the fact that he's made something so dark and sinister WITHOUT resorting to excessive gore, blood or even foul languange (I think the harshest language used in the movie is "son of a bitch", "ass" and "balls"). Take notes, Hollywood.

Also was I the only one who got a "Shane" vibe from the ending? Those who have seen it will know what I'm referring to.

Yes. I was thinking myself that this movie felt somehow "classier" and more finely crafted because the director (and actors) were skilled enough to get the vibe across without needing to show the blood and gore.

It's possible, but speaking for myself, I'm usually quite critical of movies being "dark" and "edgy" when they're just following the lame hipster trend of being gloomy, poorly lit and sadistically violent---and I didn't feel that way about this movie. It was dark, but it wasn't depressing or nihilistic, IMO. Like with the passengers on the ferry, and other moments, I thought there were some really morally uplifting moments to counterbalance the darker stuff.

Not trying to derail the thread, but really? Have you read the book?

I hated 300, so initially, I wasn't excited that Zak Snyder was doing it, but after seeing the trailer and being familiar with the source material, I'm pretty excited.

Only a few beefs with The Dark Knight: the bad Harvey/Two-Face makeup, Lucius Fox's sonar (a true Michael Bay 'hacking the internet' moment), Gordon not telling his family about his plan to fake his death, and the anticlimax between Batman and The Joker.

Overall, I thought that the film was paced very well, it was very exciting, and that Heath Ledger and Gary Oldman were phenomenal. Also, surprisingly, the Harvey Dent plot played very well. I was kind of disappointed that the decision was made to transform him into Two-Face in this film.

For anyone considering seeing it at the IMAX, spend a few extra bucks and do it to see the sequences that were filmed in IMAX projected in IMAX, and to hear the sound.

If someone is ever going to film The Dark Knight Returns, I think that the ending of The Dark Knight provided the perfect setup.

At first I thought Ramirez was Renee Montoya. I couldn't remember Gordon saying her name until later in the movie when her role was revealed. I mean I heard Dent say Ramirez, but I didn't know he was talking about the girl.


Were they thinking of putting Montoya in the film then later changing their minds? Was Ramirez some kind of Homage to Renee?

Ramirez and the lead detective under Gordeon reminded me alot of Montoya and Bullock. I'm surprised they decided not to just use the familiar characters since they seemed to be based on them.

Ramirez the character is established in Gotham Knight I believe, the animated "bridge" of sorts between Begins and TDK. At least that's what I think they were shooting for.

Anyone else hear of their local IMAX theater's projector over-heating from running 24/7 for TDK? It happened at the Mall of Georgia's IMAX theater this Saturday morning during the 12 noon showing. Somehow, providence was looking after me when I was picking which showtime to attend when I pre-bought my IMAX ticket last week, and I went with the 9 a.m. showing, so I saw the last completed showing of TDK on IMAX at that theater for the foreseeble future (until they get it fixed).

I got that too. Also, what the Joker did to Harvey Dent reminded me a lot of what Kevin Spacey did to Brad Pitt in Se7en.

Just saw this. Did not live up to the hype. Although I did find it to be excellent and way better than the first one. I also feel that Heath Ledger's performance, excellent, it was not Oscar worthy.

Question to other posters, did you get the trailer for The Watchmen? I didn't I got The Spirit and it looks like Frank Miller is going totally fuck that up.

The problem is, people expect Nolan's Batman films to be so realistic that they will criticize ANYTHING that seems the slightest bit far-fetched. I thought that Eckhart's Two-Face was fantastic, and stunning. Far and away more realistic than Tommy Lee Jones' character in Schumachers world.

What movies coming out this fall are already generating Oscar buzz? The new movies from Eastwood, Coen, and Fincher?

So far I think this year has been pretty lackluster for movies with Oscar potential, hopefully this means The Dark Knight could sneak in and grab a few nominations.

There is alot of stuff coming out this year that could end up with many Oscar noms.
The eastwood Film of course (but I dont think that one will get the love of past Eastwood films. The subject matter doesnt seem all that Oscar worthy but who knows. Same thing with Burn after reading. The Coens had their Award winner last year and it wont happen for what looks like a screwball comedy. A great one but still)
Fincher might get some love finally. At least it looks like it could wind up with some screenplay and technical category nominees. It certainly looks beautiful.
Australia I would almost guarantee you will get a Best Picture nomination. This could end up being the film to beat if the trailer is any indication
I would kill to see Spike Lee get some love For Miracle at St. Anna but I dont know if the academy will recognize the film cause of Lee's always controversial personal remarks. I'm pulling for this one and the early reviews from screenings are saying it is a masterpiece.
The Road if done right should certainly be in the running for some Oscar love.
ALso I wouldne be surprised to see noms for Frost/Nixon, Revolutionalry Road, and Body of Lies.

However The Dark Knight is the best film Ive seen so far this year and I would certainly welcome a comic book film that is masterfully done get mush due respect. It truly does deserve at least a nom. for Best picture and screenplay.
