The Dark Knight (Batman Begins 2) Discussion - Part 2

This movie keeps getting better with each screening. Cannot wait for it to come to blu-ray.
I have a question about Gotham City itself. Does it bother anyone else that this clearly isn't the same Gotham as the first movie in that there is no monorail/elevated train system and even Wayne Tower is different?
I for one don't really mind but my friend is bugged by this. I was just wondering what everone thought.
I think my favorite Joker scene is the one where he's riding in the cop car with his head out the window.

The lesson of the Dark Knight
I am not as in love with TDK as many are, though I think it is a very solid movie with two exceptional core performances (Oldman, Ledger).
That said, there is a lesson (or several) to be learned by Hollywood from the exceptional success of TDK:
1. The audience is not stupid. Movies do not need to be made for the lowest common denominator.
2. Less is more: There DOES NOT need to be a cataclysmic end with tons of huge special effects, and CGI. Lots of explosions and special effects do not make a movie better.
3. Longer movies are at no disadvantage at the box office. You would have thought they learned this lesson with LOTR, but they continue to hack up movies till they are incomprehensible to get them that extra show or two each day.

What if Michael Bay wrote the Dark Knight... wait he did!
Posted here, this has to be a joke of some kind but it's hilarious read.

Report: 'Batman' accused of assaulting mom, sister
By RAPHAEL G. SATTER, Associated Press Writer
44 minutes ago
LONDON - Batman star Christian Bale was arrested Tuesday over allegations of assaulting his mother and sister, police and British media said.
British media had reported that Bale's mother and sister complained they were assaulted by the 34-year-old actor at the Dorchester Hotel in London on Sunday night, a day before the European premiere of his latest film, "The Dark Knight."
The women made the allegation at a local police station in southern England on Monday, Britain's Press Association news agency said.
Asked whether Bale had been arrested, a police spokesman did not refer to him by name but said: "A 34-year-old man attended a central London police station this morning by appointment and was arrested in connection with an allegation of assault." He said the man was still in custody but gave no further details.
The spokesman spoke on condition of anonymity because force policy did not authorize him to be identified. British police do not name suspects before they are formally charged.
U.S.-based representatives for Bale didn't immediately return messages seeking comment. Repeated phone calls to Bale's London representative went unanswered.
The Sun newspaper said police didn't question the actor Monday because they didn't want to interfere with the premiere of the movie.
Wales-born Bale first made a splash as the child star of Steven Spielberg's "Empire of the Sun" in 1987. His screen credits also include "American Psycho," "The Machinist" and "Batman Begins."
In "The Dark Knight," Bale reprises the role of wealthy playboy Bruce Wayne and his crime-fighting alter-ego Batman, a brooding vigilante superhero still scarred by the murder of his parents.
The film, which stars the late Heath Ledger as Batman's nemesis The Joker, took in a record $158.4 million at the box office in its opening weekend in the U.S. last week.

Yeah, already being discussed in several threads.
I don't think the story could be more vague if they tried.
Edit: And he's already been released, apparently everything is considered assault in England.

The action was great, though at times the script was lacking (as was Bale's execution). Ledger steals the show and turns it into both a classic superhero flick and a true gangster/crime epic.
4.5/5 stars from me.

as for Wayne Tower, i just didn't think much of it. corporations love to change things up and keep their executives comfortable. i can easily see Bruce Wayne wanting to kind of start fresh and distance the company from the profile it had under Earle, so a different building would be one way of doing that. regardless, it didn't take me out of the movie.

Los Angeles (E! Online) - Batman is once again flying free. Which should make the rest of his press tour rather interesting.
Christian Bale has been released on bail after spending more than four hours in police custody at a central London station being interrogated over allegations he assaulted his his 61-year-old mom, Jenny, and 40-year-old sister, Sharon, Sunday night.
"Mr Bale, who denies the allegation, cooperated throughout, gave his account in full of the events in question, and has left the station without any charge being made against him by the police," the actor's lawyers at the high-powered London firm Schillings said in a statement.
"At this time, there will be no further comment by Mr Bale."
He is due to return to the police station in September, pending further inquiries.
The Dark Knight star was arrested earlier this morning after voluntarily turning up by appointment.
No details have yet been released over what allegedly transpired between the 34-year-old cinematic Caped Crusader and his female relations, but the incident purportedly took place in his room at London's posh Dorchester Hotel. Both women filed a report against the star Monday morning at their local police station.
The investigation was subsequently turned over to Scotland Yard. Authorities allowed Bale to attend Monday night's European premiere of the blockbuster before asking him to come in.
Bale was originally scheduled to participate in a round of radio interviews this afternoon, but his quality time with London's finest hindered his promotional capabilities.
It's unclear when or if those interviews will now take place—not that The Dark Knight is having trouble getting the word out on its release.
The film blew away all North American box-office records over the weekend, raking in $155.3 million its first three days out.

Yeah, it sounds like a family argument with the mom/sister trying to hit him where it'd hurt most: his reputation.
Apparently, he swore at them: http://www.tmz.com/2008/07/22/did-ba...-trigger-bust/
