I'm reading this review and I have no idea why this Taylor Kitsch guy is trying to be sold to us he's the most boring dude ever even in interviews.

Carrying this whole story is Kitsch who is stiff and emotionless in his delivery throughout the entire movie and as a result his uninspired acting whenever others interact with him it makes it seem like they’re overacting, downgrading what might normally feel like an fitting performance for the right circumstances. Along with Kitsch are a number of side characters but there are three that are featured prominently in the story.

Re: Battleship (Berg, 2012) — The Reviews Thread

Believe it or not, I was rather entertained by "Battleship". They did a good job building up Taylor Kitsche's character (somewhat street smart slacker who gets a second wind in the Navy, only to have his stubbornness threatening to sink his own Navy career until the aliens show up and he has to lead and show his grit). This is very much like a Michael Bay summer blockbuster, but with heart and an outlook that everyone can make a difference, regardless of perceived limitations.

All I can say, even with the trappings of the Battleship game (the aliens' artillery looking like Battleship pegs), and later the game grid comes into play rather nearly, it was a fun movie to root for the humans in spite of overwhelming odds and firepower.

I give it 3 stars, or a grade of B.

I LOVE that more people are seeing this and LIKING it. It's TITANIC all over again!!

1. Net Nerds, Wannabe Film students, and Self-proclaimed movie critics....Piss and moan for months about how bad it will be before the release.
2. Release
3. People actually like it
4. $$$$$$

Titanic? That's an odd movie to use as a comparison.

Nope. I remember the same thing happening.

It goes to show that everyone likes being entertained on some level no matter how Evolved they proclaim to be on the "Movie Viewer Evolutionary timeline".

supposedly there's an after credit scene for this movie. I...I don't know how there could be one but I hear that there is.

Yeah, but this doesn't seem to be nearly as enjoyable as a lot of people felt about Titanic, and it won't come close to the $$$$ you mentioned given that its turning out to be a big flop.

Just seems like an odd comparison.

$$$$$$ huh? Because, as it stands, the film is on track to do under $80 million domestically.

So, this movie's opening weekend made less than John Carter's... yeah I definitely see the comparison to John Carter (hell no to Titanic) No one sees it but the few that do all tell us it's a good movie despite the critics saying differently.

I hope not. I hated Titanic. The only worthwhile thing about that movie was the lavish recreation of the titular ship.

There is.

Spoiler:
Per Wikipedia:

In a post-credits scene set in rural Scotland, three schoolchildren and a handyman break open a car-sized object that has apparently fallen from the sky. They run off in terror after seeing an alien hand reach out and grab the opening.

Liam Neeson should be ashamed of himself for such a blatant cash grab. Whoever thought this was ever worthy of being produced should be shot.

Truly one of the dumbest ideas for a movie....ever.

The fact that this was made shows how little Hollywood thinks of movie goers. The "They'll watch anything" mentality is alive and well in Hollywood.

Hopefully the idiots of America (and other countries) will be just smart enough to know terrible when they see it and refuse to pay to see this garbage.

But I don't have to think when I watch this. My brain hurts when I think.

Just for the record, this isn't TITANIC...or even AVATAR. But heck, THE AVENGERS isn't TITANIC either, although you'd never know it from its box office/reading about it online (but you will when Oscar time comes around and it gets nothing. ).

Oh, update on the Carl Weathers' movie...it officially has a new name!

The reaction of some here reminds me of when the Thing prequel came out last fall and people were insistent that they were gonna like it... no matter what! "All I wanna be is entertained for two hours" seemed to be the common refrain...

Have standards. They're good for you.

Re: Battleship (Berg, 2012) — The Reviews Thread

It wasn't great, I'd say 2/5, but better than what I expected with all of the bitching in the Box Office thread. What was the point of the people meeting at the Pentagon if they literally made zero decisions the whole time? Also the after credits scene was beyond useless.

Re: Battleship (Berg, 2012) — The Reviews Thread

I'd agree with the 2 out of 5. I thought the effects were great, but that was about the only thing great about the film. The script had too many lapses of logic, bad dialogue, plot threads that went no where and loose ends that were just left loose. I expected to turn off my brain at the door, but I had a hard time doing that with the decibel levels so hight. I read a review before seeing this about how loud the movie was, and I have to agree. It's the first film that I've seen that left me with a stunning headache and a touch of nausea...and I've seen "Batman and Robin" when it was in theatres.

I do have standards. If a movie can't be good, then at least it has to be entertaining.
