Pretty sure that's the line of the year, was the best line in the Bad Words trailer too.

I personally think Ant-Man is a bigger risk (unless the budget is much smaller or something). As a comic fan, even with the casting news I barely have any interest.

I wonder why that was? You'd think it'd have been tailor-made for that market.

They get cooler robot suits and giant monsters on TV over there practically every night of the week. And only a half-hour at a time. And for a tiny fraction of PACIFIC RIM's budget. And with much hotter Japanese actresses than Rinko Kikuchi. And they've already had enough of Mana Ashida (the child actress in PR) who's been on TV there nonstop for years.

I wouldn't say cooler. And tokusatsu viewership is down, and even the recent Japanese-made Godzilla movies aren't tearing the house down.

But there are other factors. Little to no promotion. Taking something that originated in Japan and making it more American probably didn't do it many favors. I realize a lot of American movies are big box office draws in Japan, but most of those have big names attached to them, which Pac Rim didn't have (Rinko is not a huge draw there). (Don't ask me to explain why the Transformers movies did well there. I realize Transformers the cartoon originated here and all, but the designs were still Japanese, and somehow the popularity of the movies convinced them to start using the American names for Optimus and Bumblebee).

Yeah, probably the idea that a Gaijin could never do justice to a very Japanese genre. Also, it's more than Rinko not being a huge draw, I think she's pretty much hated in Japan.

and this is where I think the Marvel name comes in overseas. i think people will remember the quality of the Avengers and the other movies they've put out and see it regardless.

Well, to be fair they had good reason to be skeptical, considering Shall We Dance, Godzilla, Dragonball Evolution, any number of horror movie remakes, etc.

I'm not familiar with Guardians of the Galaxy. If it was a comic book--as I'm assuming to be the case from this thread--I never read it. I checked out the two teasers that have been posted in the last two pages and I'm confused about the animated talking raccoon. If this were a children's animated movie, I'd say okay. But--again, I'm assuming--this is supposed to be a superhero action movie for teens and young adults. Since when have action movies with talking raccoons become big hits?

You're basically taking one arbitrary part of the movie and trying to define box office for it.

It's like saying "Since when have action movies where a guy plugs his tail into a dragon become big hits?"

When have you seen a badass talking raccoon shooting huge guns?

This is not some Disney talking animal:

I know you're an old fuck but... You just made logic out of your confusion. It's a superhero movie. Superheroes aren't all human.

You're an anime fan and a Pokemon fan... I thought you'd be a bit more open minded about this kind of stuff. I mean, there are people who think superhero movies in general, and anything animated, should all be just for kids too.

Damn straight.

The whole cast looks great, and considering I was completely in the dark in regards to the material when the film was announced - I am really looking forward to it. Excited to see Marvel go with such an unheard of property.

Great trailer - introduces the cast.

Also - Gunn is a St. Louis native. Hope it's a huge success for him and everyone else involved.

Is there a reason why Captain Nova calls Space Lord Jason instead of Peter?

He calls him "Peter Jason Quill", because that's his full name.
