Will there be an after credit scene of jealous R2D2 opening up an airlock and booting poor BB-8 out into space?

I'm sure it was a practical effect in some scenes, but the one in the trailer is obviously CGI.

Don't get me wrong, I though the new ST names sound strange, but were just used to the OT names.
Names in Star Wars are really inconsistent. In a world full of Anakins, Obi Wans, and Mace Windus... the first names that come to Padme's mind are Luke and Leia?!?!

I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere

Maybe they'll add the path in the sand and a sand cloud behind the droid in the Special Edition.

It's pretty convoluted, but her real identity was supposedly hidden from the public. Her given name was Padmé Naberrie. She entered a youth program to be groomed for a life of politics as a little girl (FUN!). Amidala was a royal name given to her upon running to become ruler of Naboo. She was taught to speak in robotic monotones and hidden under heavy geisha garb to seem older than she was. No one other than her inner circle knew her true identity.

The whole concept of putting a fourteen year old girl in charge of an entire planet is pretty dumb, as is the concept of an elected monarch. I think George's rational was that children had purity and that was the most important factor in being a good ruler. Anyway, she kept the Amidala name after becoming senator (partly due to the name recognition and likely to protect the privacy of the Naberrie family). I guess all that backstory shit is still canon, right?

I drives me batty when people say shit like this.

No, Double_Oh_7, it is not in any way, shape, or form "obviously CGI."

Obvious CGI are those stupid stormtroopers in the prequels. That is obvious CGI. Yoda in prequels = obvious CGI.

Rolling droid in new trailer = looks fucking real.

It was a mix of practical and CGI. Mark Hamill and the crew were fucking around and accidentally kicked a soccer ball across the shot JJ was working on. Abrams kept the practical element (the soccer ball) and had a CG head added to it.

Definitely CGI sand.

Or maybe, just maybe, it was a practical effect shot in the studio, and then composited against a real location background. But nah, it's much easier to make snarky "obvious CGI" comments.

Remember John Harrison? Yeah, so we probably should not take these names too seriously.

The droid BB-8 is real, not CGI as confirmed by Mark Hamill

That's absolutely a CGI droid. I can't believe it's even being discussed.

There are practical R2-D2 units and CGI R2-D2 units too. Actually probably anything of any significance in this movie is gonna have a CGI model counterpart.

*AHEM*

http://www.superherohype.com/news/32...ailer#/slide/1

“They never cease to amaze me with what they’re able to come up with, you know? I said, ‘How are you ever gonna top R2-D2, the most adorable droid in movie history?’ And then they have this new one. I can’t even tell you his name, but you saw it in the trailer, and when they were demonstrating how they did this thing, live on set — because it’s not CGI, that’s a live prop — I was just amazed. They let me play around with it. [Laughs] I was running it all around at the creature shop up in Pinewood. I’m telling you, it’s an absolute delight. And not having thought that I’d ever go back there, to go back into that world, is just – I get the chills. It’s just so much fun.”

That thing is moving pretty quickly, and it's a lot harder to tell if something is CGI when it's a soccer ball as opposed to a human being.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015, D: Abrams) S: Hamill, Ford, Fis

How much weight do you give Hamill's anecdote though?

I've seem his comments and there are several reasonable scenarios to cast doubt on his anecdote:

He's lying to distance the movie from the orgy of CGI that is the PT.

Hamill's version of the anecdote comes from someone else and is the confuzed old-man version of something else entirely.

The person who told Hamill was lying or uninformed.

So I'm going to go out on a limb here and say I don't believe Hamill. I'm not accusing him of being a dastardly, deceptive character or a senile idiot, I just don't think its reasonable to look at his quote and say it settles it.

No one is saying there weren't CGI R2D2's, or C3P0s for that matter. That is painfully obvious.

But the fact is, saying that ball-droid is obviously CGI is like saying those stormtroopers are obviously CGI.

i.e. it sure as hell doesn't look like it. It looks to me like a soccer ball rolling in the desert.
