Re: Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015, Abrams) S: Hamill, Ford, Fisher

I rarely defend ROTJ as the movie has problems well beyond Death Star 2. The thing about the Death 2 is that it's used in a different context then the Original Star Wars.

The Battle on the Death Star in the Original Star Wars IS the main part of the ending and the pay off of the movie, whereas the battle on Death Star 2 is the secondary ending in ROTJ. The real ending in ROTJ is the Emperor/Vader/Luke Throne Room Scenes as that is the pay off for that movie.

If there is a Superweapon in TFA and its part of the story/ending, then I don't have a problem with it. If the Battle on the Superweapon IS the ending like The Original Star Wars, then it will be kind of lame and unoriginal.

With regards to there being no Episode 7 on the poster, my assumption is this is to align the film more with the OT which also didn't feature episode numbers on the art.

It's not the Death Star III.

Spoiler:
It's the Death Star XII. Death Stars III-XI were produced in the 30 years between ROTJ and TFA. At this point in time, the Empire is mass producing them on an assembly line.

Well, Abrams already ripped off the Death Star with the Narada's drill and red matter in his Star Trek movie anyway.

Planet killers were a thing in science fiction long before Star Wars. Hell, the original Star Trek had one a decade before Star Wars.

It's not a Death Star. It's a moon.

I guess 'Death Moon' just doesn't sound scary enough.

So tickets are really on sale after the trailer premiere tonight? Seems like the type of thing you'd want to start during the day.

Well, the thinking is, if you weren't sold yet on this movie that tonight's trailer is the one that'll get you over the hump.

Cannot wait. I'm guessing we won't get a glimpse of Luke in it, but still should be awesome.

What if we've been getting glimpses of Luke all along and have yet to see Adam Driver's character?

I actually think they've done a good job of keeping Luke a mystery including the toys.

You mean aside from showing images of Adam Driver wearing the black masked costume? Well.. sans mask/helmet.

Spoiler:

I'm pretty sure one of the talking Kylo Ren toys had Adam Driver's voice easily recognizable.

Yea, Annie Leibowitz' photo coverage of the film from Vanity Fair pretty much debunks that theory.

Not sure why some people are so stuck on the Luke thing because he's not on the poster. He's obviously going to be the film's big reveal and is being saved. I also don't think they'll turn him to the dark side as I just think at this point that would be kind of a cop out and would piss a lot of people off.

The only question I have regarding Luke: Has he become as powerful a Jedi as some of the others such as Yoda/Mace? He may have even eclipsed them given how long he had to train.
