I think his tinkering on Empire Strikes Back was for the better though. The wampa scene is more dramatic, and Cloud City looks much better. Only thing I don't like is the new dialogue between Vader and the Emperor.
Lucas is just no longer a very good film maker. The pre-sequels shows he bombs at casting and dialogue and believes the backstory is very important even though fans don't care about learning details like how the senate worked. JJ Abrams obviously put his heart and soul into this project to make everything just right for the fans down to creating the perfect movie trailer. The movies should be for the fans, not a selfish director's wish list.
I'm disappointed that Lucas didn't give high praise to Abrams.

The producers of the current SW are doing everything to distance themselves from Lucas and the PT. Using practical effects, using the original actors, ditching the "EPISODE..." titling, and mentioning that they're not using any of Lucas' ideas. If Lucas goes out really supports this, and says, "Oh I think it's great, it's awesome," the stench of the PT will attach itself to the marketing and promotion for the Force Awakens. So maybe Lucas is doing it on purpose, turning heel in order create positive hype for the film and stifle any thoughts that it's gonna suck like the Prequels. Just a theory.
I for one am more interested in the movie knowing that he doesn't agree with the new decisions and has pretty much had little or no involvement in it's creation.

This idea that Disney is ignoring the prequels is a huge misconception and I chalk it up to wishful thinking on the part of fanboys. The new movie takes place 5 or 6 decades after the events of the PT so it makes absolute sense that the PT aesthetic is kept to a minimum.
PT designs and story points are plentiful in all other post-Disney Star Wars media. The Rebels cartoon. The novels. The Marvel comics, including 1 of the 3 ongoing books being set during the Clone Wars and immediately after.
It should be apparent to everyone since Disney declared the PT and the Clone Wars show to be canon when they junked the EU, yet the misconception remains.

Spoiler:
I've heard great things about the Clone Wars animated series's. I haven't heard anything good about the film it was spun from.

Glad it's not running in the US. Some cool moments, but poorly put together in my opinion.

Kylo Ren's voice is not very menacing. That would be my ONLY complaint. That trailer was awesome!

I don't know why... but his voice in that trailer sounds slightly different to me than in the others.

I've loved all the trailers. This one gave me goosebumps as well.
