Damn, that lucky bastard. 84 and has a "new girlfriend." A hottie, too, comparatively speaking. But then he's got good genes. His mother, for cryin' out loud, was still alive last I checked, although that was earlier in the 21st century. Never heard if she died or not. (She'd be over 100 by now.)

Thank you for the info!

"I found it hilarious. Sean and I have that kind of brutal (relationship) where only true friendship can survive … When I was directing him in 21 Grams, he was always making jokes like that. … We have that kind of relation of old friendship. .. I thought it was very funny."

Lady Gaga's performance of The Sound of Music songs ( LINK ) shows that, even though a lot of what she does in her career is clearly inspired by Madonna's example, she is able to do something that Madonna can't: she can actually sing.

(Now I wonder if Lady Gaga can act too, which would something else that Madonna can't do.)

But that means many more people saw it, so it has had a vastly more profound effect compared to the others. An interesting question to the filmmakers would be - would you rather your film be the biggest film of the year or win best pic (or in case of this yr - 3-4 oscar wins - not exactly awe inspiring)
It probably depends on what the goal is. Me personally, I'd rather have the biggest movie of the year, and do a movie which remains culturally relevant, as opposed to an Oscar bait one which will be forgotten in a couple of years. Seriously, outside of hardcore film buffs, how many people could name the last five Oscar winners for Best Picture without going to Wikipedia? I'd take AS anyday over Birdman which will be forgotten in a couple of years.

That's why I don't think the Oscars are not really relevant anymore. Also random note but Keaton got screwed. I never understood how a movie can win BP, BD but not any best acting awards.

Look I get sarcastic humor between friends. I do it all the time. Anyone who thought he was serious is an idiot but it still struck me as over the line. This is the Oscars, not the Celebrity Roast.

People acting like Sean Penn gives a fuck what anyone thinks

Gaga's performance was the highlight for me.

Would have liked to have seen Keaton win though.

"Maybe next year, the government will inflict some immigration rules (on) the academy -- two Mexicans in a row, that's suspicious, I guess."

And I think this is the problem with most people's mentality - it's a f'n award show with over-the-top bullshit spewed everywhere. Did you have a problem with NPH coming out in his underwear? Did that upset you?

They are just people with extremely high paying jobs. Am I appreciative of the entertainment they've given me over the years? Of course I am but that's where it stops.

Why do I watch the Oscars? Cause I like the little fun competition feel it has.

Forgot to add: Sean Penn is a delusional, annoying, tool anyway.

Because acting performances are less important to cinema than most casual moviegoers realize.

When Common and John Legend came out to get their Oscars for the song (which confused the hell out of me because the names of the award recipients were different), Legend made a claim about more black men being incarcerated today than were slaves at such-and-such a time. Has any historian confirmed or repudiated that statement?

It was obviously a case with a fake back, they wrote jokes about the goings-on during the show, then put it through the back and made like NPH predicted what was going to happen.
