As I've said before (probably even earlier in this thread), if your local theater sucks at projecting 3D, you can't claim that a movie's 3D is bad. You need to find another theater that knows what they're doing.
I loved this in the theater in 3D, and just watched it tonight at home in 3D, and it's fantastic. It was clearly filmed with 3D in mind, as there are many "pop-out" effects that wouldn't make much sense in 2D.

Fury Road wins a prize...
I wonder if this thing will get nominated for the popular ones as it gets into that season to do so?
Following its worldwide success and critical acclaim, George Miller will receive a new award for his latest film "Mad Max: Fury Road", at the upcoming San Sebastián Film Festival. The Australian filmmaker will collect the FIPRESCI Grand Prix 2015, attributed by film critics from all over the world, during the opening ceremony of the 63rd edition of the Spanish festival, on the 18th of September. "You could have knocked me over with a feather! It's lovely to have this great cohort of critics acknowledge our collective labours in this way," he replied to the announcement.
In an open poll, 493 members of the International Federation of Film Critics, FIPRESCI, first nominated any feature-length work premičred since July 2014, and then chose among four finalists: Hou Hsiao-Hsien's "The Assassin" (Nie yin niang), László Nemes's "Son of Saul" (Saul fia), Jafar Panahi's "Taxi" and Miller's "Mad Max: Fury Road".

Loved this movie. Saw it in IMAX and bought a movie for the first time in a long time. It has immense replay value for me as I want to know more about Max of course but also Furiosa. I wouldn't mind a prequel or definitely more about Max. This movie had so many amazing visuals and never dragged. The world that Miller was able to create is awesome. More please!

What's odd is watching the movie is almost like character building for your second viewing. It almost demands that second viewing.

I thought about seeing it in IMAX but I've already seen it in theaters 5 times and that included an ATMOS showing, I bought the prequel comics, and the Blu-ray, and the MONDO vinyl of the soundtrack. I've supported it enough.

Wow. Goddamn Fury Road for being so cool.

Fact: When you get a group of like-minded fans together, weird magical things can happen. When that group is all cosplaying as characters from “Mad Max Fury Road,” things will definitely get a little cultish.
Such was the case during DragonCon when a large group of War Boys happen to be passing by underneath the balcony upon which Immortan Joe and his entourage were relaxing. Without blinking, an Imperator jumped up to grab the attention of Joe’s underlings.

Once the crowd was sufficiently whipped into a frenzy, Joe took the stage. By now traffic on the lower level had ground to a complete halt. No amount of polite requests from the staff to keep it moving were heeded, because Impromptu LARPing takes priority.

It could’ve only been better — for everyone except the hotel staff — if he’d had bottles of water to pour out at the end!

Tech specs from IMDb:
I 'get' special 35mm screenings of movies made on the format. I can't say I 'get' this but...

Finally got around to watching it and I absolutely loved it! Had a blast watching it, and I keep thinking I really want to see it again. A must have 3D for me.

Really? I had the exact opposite reaction.
This was easily one of the worst movies I have seen in years - even worse than the last Superman movie and The Dark Knight Rises combined.
I just don't get it.

I know I'm in the minority but this movie did nothing for me. Usually I'm the one defending some crappy action movie as still being good entertainment. This one was amazing that I watched for an hour and I still didn't give a crap about any one of the characters. If I was the boss in a post apocalyptic world and had my bevy of super model wives I'd keep a closer eye on them.
I usually like Hardy and Theron but any future chapters will be a definite pass for me. 1.5/5
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RXhcqdewf0 Honest Trailer was better than the movie for me.

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road (Miller, 2015) — The Reviews Thread
Recently watched Mad Max: Fury Road for the first time - excellent film! Since I grew up with the original Mel Gibson MM films back in the day, I wasn't sure I would like this as much. However, I felt FR was an amazing, action film that really captured the post-apocalyptic world of MM, even more than the previous films. The albinos (possibly a result of living underground because of radiation?!) hadn't really been see in previous films. And, the various deformities some characters had appeared to be a result of radiation poisoning...
That being said, it is tough to compare this movie to the previous three MM films - first of all, the last one (Beyond Thunderdome) came out 30 years ago, and of course the main actor is different. So, it's so far removed from the other films & so dissimilar in other ways (effects, editing, etc.) that as far as I'm concerned it's definitely a stand-alone movie...
Though Mad Max was supposedly the "main character" of the film, I felt that Charlize Theron really stole the show as the "Furiosa" character. Her kick-ass attitude but at the same time compassion towards some of the other characters (notably the defenseless women) is a difficult dichotomy to pull off, but was well-done here. Her mechanical, artificial arm was cool as well. And, she looks great with short hair - not all women can pull off that look effectively...

I thought this would be the reason for the bump:
http://variety.com/2015/film/in-cont...lm-1201650879/
Based on the whole 5-movie rules I'd agree that this movie wouldn't have a shot at the Best Picture nom at the Oscars but situations like this are why the new Best Picture rules exist. If District 9 could get a nomination (and that's not even close to a knock, I liked D9) then Fury Road can.
