Yeah that helmet/mask is damn good, and looks like it does on the animated show.

That costume is awesome. Gives me major Guyver vibes, although hopefully it's a lot less squicky

Nice looking costume. Remains to be seen how it looks on the big screen.

Is this still getting a theatrical release?

Re: DC's Blue Beetle (2023, D: Soto) - S: Xolo Maridueña

So I just found out that Angel Manuel Soto worked at my cousin's ad agency. My cousin's business partner fired him on the grounds he wasn't creative enough. Some time prior to the Blue Beetle gig (after he'd been directing for a while) some of my co-workers bumped into him. He asked to send his thanks to my cousin's business partner and tell him that he wouldn't have gotten where he is today had he not fired him. My cousin thought that was awesome when he and I heard of it today.

Holy Christ... somebody must be a Guyver fan.

I'm dying to see this film.

Finally getting some footage from this film. Only four months before it’s going to release. Wondering if there’s not a lot of faith in it or if it’s just a small scale movie and not being advertised much. Pretty weird that we’re only just now seeing anything aside from a logo and poster.

Wasn't this originally an HBO Max movie that got bumped to a theatrical release, akin to what they initially tried to do with Batgirl?

Yep. It was originally slated for HBO Max like Magic Mike’s Last Dance, House Party (2022), and Evil Dead Rise but all moved to theatrical releases under David Zaslav’s command.

I know nothing about this character. But that trailer made it look interesting.

Looks fun but very YA oriented. Hell, for a minute there I thought it was a feature film version of ATV+'s "Acapulco," which is a great show.

"Batman's a fascist." DC really knows how to win the fans over.

That's pretty much the Jaime Reyes Blue Beetle design from the comic, though I see the Guyver resemblance.

Never read this version of Blue Beetle.. is he basically the DC version of Miles Morales/Peter Parker?

Miles Morales is a bit more complicated... he actually replaced Peter in an alternate universe (the Ultimate universe) before coming to the "real" Marvel universe. Jaime is in the "regular" DC universe and got the scarab that had powered the original Blue Beetle around the time Ted Kord Blue Beetle died.

They're similar in that they opened the roles to diversity (which of course has also angered a bunch of nerds, but whatever). But Jaime's whole "alien Iron Man" thing is completely different from Ted Kord (who was more like Batman and inspired the Owlman character in Watchmen) and even the original Blue Beetle (who basically got super powers from it).

Definitely feels geared toward teens but it does look pretty cool.

I’m really not very familiar with Blue Beetle but I think the trailer looks kinda fun. Agreed that it looks like it gears towards a younger audience but I’ll probably still give it a shot.

Re: DC's Blue Beetle (2023, D: Soto) - S: Xolo Maridueña

Very cool. Would make a pretty interesting double feature with Shin Kamen Rider, if they happen to be in theaters at the same time.

To add to what fujishig said, the Jaime Reyes Blue Beetle was heavily inspired by henshin/toku stuff, as well as Western works like Ultimate Spider-Man (which was insanely popular at the time of Jaime's debut, though did not yet feature Miles Morales) and Tech Jacket (which was itself influenced by toku).
