The Latino Blue Beetle was a blatant DC rip-off of Spider-Man mixed with aliens.

Latino Blue Beetle.. first appearance 2006
Latino Spider-man... first appearance 2011

Who is ripping whom off again?

But yeah, I can see some making that claim of DC ripping Marvel off....

Hasn't Umberto Gonzalez written the same rumor for the past several years?

Jamie Reyes ripped off Peter Parker's personality, who first premiered in 1962. He was a blatant clone of Spider-Man and his early high school years. Then Marvel decided they needed their own Latino/Black Spider-Man after Disney bought the company.

I'd rather see Ted Kord's BB, but I'd be more interested in a Booster Gold film.

Arguing over who stole/ripped-off is silly between Marvel and DC Comics. It's obvious that through the years both have ripped off or taken inspiration from the other. Almost every character has a similar alternative in the other.

Brian Michael Bendis specifically created Miles so Marvel could have a non-white Spider-Man character for future adaptations in other mediums. The writing was on the wall after Disney bought the company. He was supposedly based off Donald Glover playing him, much like Samuel Jackson "inspired" the black Nick Fury. Whenever Bendis creates a new character for Marvel or DC, it's in the hopes that the character gets picked up by Hollywood. It's why his new Superman villain Rogol Zaar looks an awful lot like a Predator rip-off.

DC and Marvel almost instantly copy each other's popular new characters. DC's new character Sideways is a shameless Marvel rip-off.

I hear the new animated movie with Miles is very good.

Sooo...it's opinion based. No one involved with the creation of Latino Blue Beetle has actually said Latino BB is a riff on Latino Spider-man or 60's Peter Parker.

All teenaged Latino characters are ripped off from Marvel from 2006 on. Got it

Spider-man 2099 debuted in 1998 so I'm not sure what you guys are talking about in regards to the first Latino Spider-man.

Man I'm old.

It still weirds me out when I see something like Transformers the Movie (the good one) take place in like 2005. At least 2099 is far out enough that I won't be around to see it be outdated.

re: DC's Blue Beetle (2023, D: Soto) - S: Xolo Maridueña

“Charm City Kings” director Angel Manuel Soto is set to direct “Blue Beetle,” DC Films and Warner Bros.’ first superhero movie starring a Latino character, individuals with knowledge of the project exclusively tells TheWrap.

The screenplay is from Mexican-born writer Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, who wrote Universal’s “Scarface” remake and Sony’s “Miss Bala.”

In DC Comics, Blue Beetle is the superhero alter ego used by three different heroes, but the film will focus on Mexican-American teenager Jaime Reyes, the third character to assume the Blue Beetle mantle.

“It is an honor to direct Blue Beetle, the first Latino superhero film for DC,” said Soto in a statement to TheWrap. “I want to sincerely thank everyone at Warner Bros. and DC for trusting me to bring Jaime Reyes to life. I can’t wait to make history together.”

The film is eyeing a fall production start, with Zev Foreman executive-producing for Warner Bros.

Goddamnit.

Maybe it's too much to hope for a Blue & Gold movie or show...

I liked what I read of the Jaime Reyes Blue Beetle series. I need to go back and reread it. I'll definitely watch the movie. I liked that they cast Xolo as Jaime.

Blue Beetle fans have to check out the fantastic short included on the new Batman: The Long Halloween Part 2 Blu-ray. It features Ted Kord and other heroes like the Question, animated and written in the mold of a retro classic 1960s Saturday morning cartoon.
