Aykroyd Vows To Sign Weaver For Ghostbusters
15 April 2009 9:15 AM, PDT
Dan Aykroyd has vowed to persuade Sigourney Weaver to sign on to the new Ghostbusters movie.
All of the other original castmembers from the cult 1980s films - including Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson - have all reportedly signed up for the sequel.
But it was feared Weaver - who starred in the first two films - would be unwilling to reprise her role as Dana Barrett.
And Aykroyd, who co-wrote and starred in the originals, is sure he will be able to bring Weaver back for the highly-anticipated third installment.
He tells MTV.com, "When we do the Ghostbusters 3 movie, hopefully, Sigourney will be in it. I know we’ll make that happen."
But the comedian is determined not to give away too many details about the new film.
He adds, "There will be a whole new generation that has to be trained. They’ll be lots of cadets, boys and girls, who’ll be learning how to use the psychotron, the accelerators and all the new stuff. And that whole new generation will be led by an individual who you’ll all love when you meet him but I’m not going to tell you anything yet. "
Ghostbusters 3 is scheduled to hit cinemas in 2011.

I can't either... and I won't until they have a script and start filming. ALL of this talk could easily fall apart for any number of reasons and : poof : back to square one.

I don't understand why Weaver and Moranis are being so difficult to get back. These movies are the reason they have careers, the least they can do is come back for a new one.
Actually I thought I read Moranis is confirmed, is that true?

What early reports? There's been no indication that Moranis will be involved, only statements from Aykroyd and Ramis that they would like everyone to return.
And for those who are wondering, Moranis' wife died from cancer so he quit the business to concentrate on raising their children. He made enough money from the "Honey I Shrunk the Kid" franchise to do whatever he wants.

There's no truth to any of the Moranis newsbytes.

He did an interview a few weeks ago on a Canadian late night show called "The Hour" and he said it was still up in the air if he'd direct or maybe just produce... I don't think he's been asked either way but he sounded excited about it and like he'd be involved in some capacity, so I'm sure it would be dependent on the script and if they even ask him.

i'd like to see Judd Apatow do it. He's one of the few directors who actually tells a complete story when he makes a comedy film and this needs to be epic. We need to spend time with the old characters and introduce new ones and have a compelling story. Apatow is one of the few comedy directors willing to make a comedy over 2 hours (and I desperately think this will need to be 2 hours to work.).

Since the original Ghostbusters is only 105 minutes, I don't think it needs to be more than two hours. In fact, technically, Ghostbusters II is actually the longer movie, so I'm going to draw the unsubstantiated conclusion that the closer to two hours the movie is, the lamer it will be.
As for the Moranis thing, the source of the news can be traced to EW, who jumped the gun on that one. It's a quote by Ramis where he says "everyone will be back", but he doesn't actually say "Rick Moranis", so it's clearly being presumed on the part of the article's author that Moranis is included.
And in case anyone didn't know, I don't think Sigourney is necessarily playing hard to get. With the game, they apparently asked her before they had secured any of the original Ghostbusters, and she apparently didn't get to see any of the concept art or any of the game footage before she had to say yes or no. She asked to be involved later, but it was too late. The last thing I know she actually said about Ghostbusters 3 (i.e. actual quotes from her) was when she apparently had dinner with Bill Murray and claimed she didn't know what role she would really have in a third movie, which to an extent I agree. She should be in the movie and with Bill, because their relationship is great and a staple of the series, but she doesn't need to be the one in peril. Really, an extended cameo appearance would be sufficient.

Am I the only one who would prefer it if Sigourney didn't come back? Ghostbusters is my all-time favorite film, but I never was a huge fan of the Dana Barrett character.

Her character was fine for what it was but I don't think her not being there would change much. Same goes for Moranis. Just give me the four original Ghostbusters and I'm good. No need to pull an Indy and try to get everyone back in thankless roles.

I figured he wouldn't but I just thought it would be a good idea if he did. I agree with some of the stuff Chris said above.
