re: Ghostbusters III (2015) S: Jonah Hill
From the sounds of that it seems like Aykroyd is just intent on making another film to cash in on the popularity of Ghostbusters no matter what. Realistically the right time to have made a sequel would have been a long time ago and at this point it seems like a lame attempt especially if they aren't even going to have the original crew starring.

As much as I'm hesitant to agree, I do. If they're going to do it, make everything fresh, cast included. It's not like Aykroyd or Ramis have been setting the comedy world on fire recently. And with Murray out, everyone's collective interest has greatly declined.

This is about the only reason I have interest in seeing Ghostbusters III released because I'm sure if they do decide to put Ghostbusters II on Blu-ray they'll likely wait for the new one to be released.

Yeah, I've loved both films ever since I was a little kid. Vigo is a great villain, and Peter MacNicol is hilarious in the film.

I don't hate GB2. But....it's pretty boring in comparison to GB1. It's not a bad movie...it's a good one...it's just..I dunno...I'm just not really impressed by GB2 the way I was in GB1. Even as a kid. GB2 just never rocked my world.

I think the subway scene is still the scariest part of either movie.

If another GB is made, they should do a "next generation" kind of thing with a new crew of Ghost Busters and then have actors from the original movies who want to participate appear as mentors.

Extreme Ghostbusters? (Had to look it up.)
Yeah, sort of like that. That may be the only way to do another Ghostbusters without doing a cold reboot.
I sort of remember something like this coming up a few years ago... I think Alyssa Milano, Eliza Dushku, and Anna Faris came up as possible actors for the new crew of Ghostbusters. I think they were going to be the children of the original Ghostbusters, or somesuch. I could see Dushku playing Venkman's daughter.

That'd be interesting. I can't see Sony trusting him w/ this. They like their control. Still...get him or the Coen Bros. And he'd be interested.

Yeah, no way Sony would let anyone like Wes Anderson near this. I was just brainstorming on who would get Murray involved. And with Anderson, it'd be a totally different movie. There's not many people who can do comedy and horror and make it good. That's why they need to give Edgar Wright a shitload of money to clean up this mess. Maybe Murray would be interested then.

Wright for sure could do justice to this. Wonder if he was ever on the list to write/direct? Get him and Cornish...that'd be cool.

If Wright were on the list of contenders to direct I'd gain some interest back. I somehow doubt it will happen though. I wonder if Reitman or possibly his son Jason would have any interest or be on a list of potential directors. Although I'm not sure Jason's style would exactly fit for a Ghostbusters film.
Ghostbusters doesn't necessarily qualify as horror in my opinion. None of the stuff in either film is really overly scary. All you need is a comedy director who can have a dark style at times.

re: Ghostbusters III (2015) S: Jonah Hill
Ghostbusters is more comedy of course but there are some bits of horror. Horror is the seasoning and not the actual meat itself. My comment was not meant to convey that I give equal weight to both aspects of the movie, just that the movie contains both aspects. And that someone who has handled both aspects expertly in the same movie without taking away from either aspect is Edgar Wright. He's definitely a comedy director and I think any other comedy director out there would pretty much just focus on making something wacky, where every good joke would be contained in the trailer. I can't think of anyone better and I think it would get "fanboys" excited even if they went ahead without Murray.

Is there a single thing in all of Jason Reitman's filmography that would suggest that he'd be an appropriate choice to direct GB3? Reitman himself has said as much.

The only reason I thought of him was because his father Ivan directed both the first two films. I just thought maybe with that connection it could be interesting to see his take on it. Plus he's a pretty talented film maker I think. I don't know if his style fits that of Ghostbusters though.
