It wasn't notable when Feig posted that shot of women working on set, either.
Hopefully this version is more concerned with having a good story to tell than buttressing an agenda.

This was the best-kept secret in Hollywood (yeah, Aykroyd let that script thing slip in November, but nobody believed him!). This thing is apparently all but ready to go, as shooting will start in a couple months - which means they're probably casting as we speak (if they don't already have the primaries signed).
This is like the best late Christmas present for movie fans - I haven't been this excited about a film since it was announced JJ Abrams was doing the The Force Awakens. It seems like Sony finally threw in the towel and decided to give fans what they've been begging for for decades. I don't know if the final product can live up to the anticipation (it good be great, it could be Ghostbusters 2 all over again), but this production has a lot of goodwill behind it.

Thank god now everyone can shut the fuck up about the perfectly fine 2016 version.
Honestly I want to be excited about this, but honestly I'm not. I think that the 2016 version of Ghostbusters did a lot of damage to the franchise in terms of public perception and how it bombed at the box office. This feels like too little too late, even though it's how they should have handled the 2016 version.

Internet reactions to this one are strange. Everyone wants a new Ghostbusters with the original cast until they get a new Ghostbusters with the original cast.
I know I was sick of hearing about it when it was clearly just Ackroyd's pipe dream . But now that it's closer to being a reality, I'm pumped.
Although truthfully, I'd still put my money on this not happening for one reason or another.

I still don't understand why the 2016 version didn't just set itself in the same universe. You had all the original (living) actors willing, or obligated, to do cameos so why not just make it a "passing the torch" type movie? It felt so weird to reboot it when the original actors were still involved.
Although I do know Feig said in one of those hacked Sony emails that he'd only do the movie if he could reboot it because he had no interest in a sequel, and Sony was all-in on Feig, practically begging him to do it. But it still feels like a bizarre story choice.

Can we please keep the discussion about the 2016 version to a minimum in this thread? Thanks.

^^^ That is real too, though it comes across fan made. EW did post that in the article.

Anyway, while I'm interested in this, they better have a good script, which I have my doubts. And if they do manage to rope Murray into this, maybe he'll at least attempt to look like he wanted to be there...

Who put the "don't panic, the cast is male" in the thread title? (just joking)

I'm not even sure Ghostbusters ever needed a sequel to begin with. The original is a classic, sure, but mostly because of interaction between Murray, Ackroyd, Ramis, Moranis, and Weaver. Essentially it was a comedy vehicle set in a sfx/supernatural milieu. It was lightning in a bottle that worked at that moment.
The ongoing animated series worked because it was a quality ongoing animated series and worked brilliantly within that framework.

I stand by what I said a couple months ago on this. The ship has long since sailed for a third film. I'm really not very excited about it. I'll most likely see it but I just feel its way, way too late for this to be happening. The third film should have happened at most around ten years ago.

I thought GB2 opened up pretty good. Peter hosting that weird psychic show was a bit of a letdown, but actually was very funny and made sense. But after that...

Hopefully this one will be scary.

I have zero faith that this will be the perfect film the 2016 haters think will somehow exist. Without the dream-team of Murray, Akroyd and Ramis in their prime, this won't hold a candle to the original (and even Ghostbusters 2 will be better by comparison).
Fun teaser though!

I'm definitely excited for this, the original hit when I was 10 years old and this and the animated series & toys played a big part of my childhood (I was pretty annoyed when the second movie ignored the cartoon completely). I thought ATC was a decent go at the concept, but should have been a sequel and not a reboot.
I'm not expecting a masterpiece like the first, but a fun, rewatchable romp will be good too.

So many questions. Bill? Rick? The absence of Egon? Will they actually film in NYC again? Hmmmmmm.
