Me too. I already had zero desire to see this film, and the poster sure didn't help change my mind, yuck.

That poster is the more 'appealing' of the two. The other is just Dakota's floating head.

Is it any wonder why the marketing department sucks ass?

How can they do a movie poster that isn't teal and orange?

I don't understand pushing Dakota Johnson so hard as the "face" of the movie. No one gives a shit about her. The Rock or RDJ I'd get.

I have one year of graphic design experience from college and I am sure I could make a more interesting poster than that.

Re: Madame Web (2024, D: Clarkson) S: Dakota Johnson

I actually like the teaser/trailer for this film, but yes, the posters do nothing to sell me on the film. At first, I thought the Morbius posters were a bit less vanilla, but nope...Googled and those posters are also not ones that would have me going I need to get one to put on my wall or add to my collection.

I have no problem with folks pointing out for the umpteenth time that they really do not make film posters like they did even just 20-25 years back (I have a poster for The Tigger Movie, The World Is Not Enough, and a British style, I think it is called a quad style, poster for The Mummy, the Brendan Fraser film, that are way more interesting and fun to look at than most modern film posters, and those films are approaching 24-25 years old).

I mean she is the main actor in this movie. Now hiring her to be the face of the movie, that's another thing but that's what they did. Sweeney, Merced, and O'Conner are all great but I'm not sure focusing on them would help. I suspect they are already pushing it including the costumes since I'm still not sure how much those are in the actual movie, but I guess we'll see (well someone will see, I won't see until it's on some streaming platform I suspect)

I’ve been a professional graphic designer for 35 years, and I’m sure you could make a more interesting poster too! The whole thing just projects nothing compelling to make someone want to see the film, and frankly none of those actors are draws to a majority of the public in the same sense that the previously mentioned Rock or RDJ are.

And what the fuck is up with that second ‘A’ in ‘madame’. It’s got one little edge sheared off, but the other one doesn’t, while the ‘Es’ and ‘Ms’ basically consistent. That’s irritating.

Oh well, like I said in my previous post, the Blu-ray is already for preorder in Asia, so I’m sure the listings will start appearing over here soon.

I have still found some cool ones relatively recently. For my home theater, I have a Black Widow poster, Wonder Woman, Into the Spider-verse, Jessica Jones and a Mondo Captain Marvel poster. I don't want to turn this into a poster thread but I have found great options beyond "floating heads".

But she offers absolutely no star power or audience recognition beyond "oh wasn't she in that 50 Shades of Grey movie?" They'd be better served leaning into any kind of Spider-Man connection.

I'm not sure they're allowed to? Did Venom/Morbius feature any kind of Spider-man connection? I guess you could give a full body shot of the bad guy in costume since it looks like a Spider-man costume.

Yeah, that can't have been intentional, it makes no sense, graphically. Just one more example of completely lazy work on this poster.

I think Venom has some built-in Spider-Man recognition. Morbius was just a mess.

I would have leaned into the "web" stuff and slapped "from the studio that brought you Into the Spider-Verse" on there.

Venom 2 had a post credits connection to Spider-Man via the multiverse, Morbius had Keaton playing Vulture in it.

I cannot for the life of me figure out what is going on with that second A. It 100% looks like a mistake but it's being used everywhere. It doesn't match ANY of the rest of the aesthetic.

The only thing I can think is that it's a reverse of the first A that has the bottom right leg covered by the D. Could they have just flipped it and left it?

I meant in the advertisements/promos.

Inorobably should’ve posted an OCD warning!

Good catch. In which case it looks even more like a mistake now.

That’s my guess. But it’s such an obvious, unjustifiable mismatch that it tells me no executive approving the poster/logo probably cared because, down deep, they probably don’t care that much about the movie at this point either.

And don’t get me started on why only the first letters of each word have some decay built into them — again in a manner not consistent with anything — and the rest don’t. It’s like they survived from an earlier treatment wherein all the letters were decaying, but some honcho said “nah” and the designer said to himself “fuck you, bro, I’ll slip a couple back in anyway!”

That's my guess as well, evidence that the studio doesn't really give a tin shit about the movie at this point, I'm sure it will do well. Oh Sony, you just keep being Sony.

It is supposed to be silhouettes of the NY skyline, not decay.. the M has the Statue of Liberty, the W has the Empire State Building.

Re: Madame Web (2024, D: Clarkson) S: Dakota Johnson

Thanks for that. I probably would’ve picked up on it on a full size poster display instead of my phone, but it still looks stupid with the other letters not even having some low buildings to carry the effect across (or maybe they are there in dark-ish red and I just can’t see them?). Mind you, turning the pointy lower gaps in letters into buildings isn’t exactly original, either.

And the middle "A" got into a fender bender with a NY cab. But Brian is right, it still looks stupid.

I think that fucked up second "A" is brilliant. It's got you obsessed with it, likely talking to all your friends about how much it irritates you. When they ask "what the fuck are you talking about?" you'll say it's from the Madame Web poster and even show it to them. Then later on when said friends have no idea what to watch, they'll vaguely (mis)remember that so-and-so was always talking about it and decide to check it out. Don't you see?! Sony has you in their web!

Not only have I purchased a digital copy of Morbius for my son, I bought him an "It's Morbin' Time" T-shirt which he wore during his graduation party (and we played the movie on a loop throughout the same party). And it was all strictly for the lulz. I'm already all in on this dumb shit.
