Are they bombing? Only 3 Sony Spider-man Universe films have come out. What they made with the two Venom films is basically carrying all the other spin offs. Morbius got released in Sony's 2nd fiscal year past its original release date. So while it doesn't look like a profit, they lost no money. They're still ahead. Venom, Let There Be Carnage and Morbius budget comes to about $300M. Together they made $1.45B at the box office.

Okay I guess I spoke without having the knowledge of how much the films made, but realistically they’re largely throwaway films that not many people care about. They get poorly reviewed and mocked.

Whereas a movie based around Miles or Gwen could be truly great and make more money and become franchises in their own right.

Venom has become a franchise and that’s the one that makes the most sense in spite of not being the version of Venom that I and many others don’t really want.

What's funny is that Marvel cast Donald Glover as Aaron Davis (a.k.a. Prowler) in Spider-Man: Homecoming, but did nothing with the setup (he even references his nephew). There should have been a post-Infinity War Miles Morales: Spider-Man movie that took place during the five year Snap.

The setup was for this...

As long as the animated Miles movie is doing ok, why rush the live action? It's not like Into the Spider-verse did huge BO either. Across the Spider-verse at least made double what the first film made, which is a good sign.

I'd think the problem with making terrible movies just to keep the IP as long as they don't lose a ton of money is that you'd think eventually the audience would wise up and see this and it would poison when you actually want to make a killer movie. But no, let's keep this Morbius Cinematic Universe going, maybe they'll luck out eventually.

If anything about Madame Web... it set up the girls. All we know about them now is that they have zero powers, but they look damn good in costume in the future. So if this does mildly well, their origin stories could be an interesting take. The lead and the villain in this are weak AF tho.

Wait, they don't even show them with powers in this movie?

I'm not even sure how they fit in unless there's a jump in time somewhere since this movie is set in the past? If these are plot spoilers I'll stop.

Right, but that means they do show off their powers at least (in costume), right?

Sorta.. they have a fight with future Ezekiel and kill him (it takes place at night in his darkly lit mansion.) That's what he sees in his future and the purpose for hunting them down now to prevent that. There's a brief team up before the end credits to show they basically become Birds of Prey.

But I never read from these comics to know how they came about to get their powers/abilities. So I would be interested in that. Does Cassie guide them? I dunno.

Because it released on March 13, 2020, and 4 days later, all the movie theaters in the nation were shut down.

It was also a POS that was as bad as Morbius with even worse CG and a just as douchy lead actor.

Also if you go to a streaming service I don't subscribe to (Starz) I'm probably not going to get around to you.

That was the deal Sony had, though anything released in 2023 on are under the new deal with Netflix.

I'm interested in seeing it, but don't think I'll spend the $15 to go see it in the theater. I'll wait until a discount day, if I have time, or watch it when it becomes available for streaming. It looks like it could be a decent tv movie of the week quality if not worthy of being in the cinema.

Re: Madame Web (2024, D: Clarkson) S: Dakota Johnson

I thought the trailer looked bad, and the reviews certainly haven't been great, but with A-list tickets are a sunk cost so why not.

My first reaction to seeing Kerry Bishé was to think that she's a far more interesting actress, and I'd have much rather had her as the lead of film. So that's probably not what they were going for. As for the movie, my expectations were so low that I didn't mind it. I was entertained in spots. The ending is dumb.

Also
Spoiler:
she may save the girls, but those people on the helicopter didn't die originally so at best she broke even.

Don't fall into that web of deceit, sunk cost is a fallacy that you will just get tangled up in.

Wait a minute . . . have you been a plan this whole time?

All the trash talk on TikTok has been fun.

This reminds me of the pre-X-Men 90's comic book movies that met audiences with a big meehhhhhhh.
