One day away from HBOmax.
That’s a good thing.

It’s now up for those of you who have waited. Looks like there is about 22 minutes of bonus features. I already saw it twice in Dolby and IMAX. I’m probably going to hold off for awhile before I watch it again. It’s a huge time commitment.

I really hope the WB's usual buffoonery doesn't screw up the next film. This film showed how to have an interesting villain but still keep the focus on Batman. I enjoyed it even more on subsequent viewings.

I'll check it out again this weekend - my wife didn't go with me and my son to the theater. It'll probably play better by being able to pause it.

Good albeit not great, this newest incarnation of Batman is well done if not also incredibly dark. I did like Robert Pattinson's portrayal and didn't employ the annoying voice that kind of ruined The Dark Knight and more so, The Dark Knight Rises. As a whole though I did like the plot (parts inspired by The Long Halloween) and a good supporting cast, with Paul Dano giving a creepy performance as The Riddler and looking forward to seeing more from Zoe Kravitz's Selina/Catwoman. I also can see why they're, at this time, planning a Penguin spin-off series as Colin Farrell was fun in the role.
Also interested in the sequel taking cues from the No Man's Land comic storyline. ****/*****

Finally saw this. I was excited back when it came out, but this was kinda underwhelming.
And I have no idea why this had to be 2 hours, 47 minutes.
You can just throw anything up on screen and comic book/superhero fans will show up for it.
Pattinson was decent and Farrell was real good.
Glad I didn’t see this in a theater. Studio should have stepped in and made him cut it to reasonable run time.

Yeah, in a nutshell, good but not great. Good cast for sure, but this didn’t bring in anything fresh we haven’t seen before. It also didn’t need to be this long.

It's a different take but yeah I wasn't thrilled with it. Felt like a 4 episode mini series more than a movie. It's good but not amazing. I feel like I missed the story of Jonathan Crane becoming Batman.
Wonder what the budget was, early reports had it at $100m, later reports had it at $185m, others say $200m+

Because Matt Reeves felt like he needed 2 hours and 56 minutes w/credits to tell his story that's why. I know opinions among strangers are subjective, but if he felt like he needed that running time to tell his story, than that's what we get. We can all cherry pick and think that scene wasn't needed or that scene was too short. No one knows the perfect running time for a movie like this.
and I don't understand the comment "Glad I didn't see this in the theater" Because the running time w/out a pause button would have been torture for you?

Eh, it had a similar amount of content to Nolan's entries but Reeves let the scenes breath unlike Nolan's rapid cuts to the next scene.

Prior to this movie coming out, I remember some people clamoring for a "dark" and "gritty" R rated Batman movie. I mean why? I thought this movie even at PG-13 was pretty violent already. I mean would it have been better if Batman was slitting throats, chopping off arms and having gratuitous sex and saying "Fuck" ?

Reeves is just another guy. This movie was forgettable. I’m not even a huge fan of the Nolan Batman stuff, but they’re way better than this made for cable Reeves nonsense.
it was fine I guess . And I wondered why a blockbuster would be released just after February ended. I know why now.
Did you have a stake in this film? You’re awfully defensive about it.

Isn’t that the whole point of this thread for some here to ask questions about others arguments/opinions and understanding their reasoning? Otherwise this would be a dead and closed ended thread. I understand not everyone is going to like this movie. It’s very long and might be too dark for some.

You’re the one that jumped on someone else’s post who thought it was just ok.
Even you should admit it was RIDICULOUSLY long for what we got. Who cares what Reeves thought he needed to tell his story.
Pulp Fiction probably would have been 4 hours if QT got to do what he really wanted.

Best Batman movie since Burton's in my opinion.
Much more focused, serious and dark than The Dark Knight, which for how dark it wanted to be, couldn't help it with too much stupid shit.

Haven’t read through all the comments but here are my thoughts (thanks HBO!)
Good movie but not great. Easily should have had 20 min or so cut.
Was Bruce ever this level of broody and reclusive in the comics? Dano was great but it felt like he just watched a bunch of videos of Mankind from the old WWF days to prep.
IMO it’s time to take the gritty/dark Batman movies behind a shed and (respectfully) put them down. As great as some have been, they’re all starting to mesh together and feel the same.

I loved this movie, but I agree I'd like to also see something a little closer to the Bronze Age in terms of tone and Batman being a "costumed adventurer". That's something I really love about the character: you can fit him into anything from gritty noir to something like Brave and the Bold.

No, I much preferred the slow burn pacing of The Batman to Nolan's boom-boom-boom approach to editing, cutting out so much to keep the story moving we're not even sure what happened(Gambol) at times. As far as I'm concerned it's neck-and-neck with The Dark Knight as the best Batman film.

Maybe in the New Adventures episodes, but one of my favorite things about The Animated Series was how Bruce actually functioned as a normal human being. He was decent and charming and while he certainly had a tortured side, he hadn't quite devolved into the Batman as loner a-hole characterization that became the default across all media not long after.
