this was ok. a little long in the tooth and everything seemed to move in slow motion. i did see it through, all 2:45 or so. it was good, but not great or nearly as re-watchable as the Nolan and perhaps 89 Batman. yes, this was dark, brooding, a good mystery/detective story, action was ok, when there was. no real definitive movements/fighting style (just straight up brawler) from Pattinson's Batman and lack of real theme music from Giacchino was a little disappointing, except for the swelling music at very end. but, as i said, i did watch in one sitting and it was good, but far from a great caped crusader film.

I might enjoy this if I could actually see what's going on. This is a horrible movie to watch at home. Something this dark needs to be seen in a theater I think. As it is it's loud and I'm having a really bad time telling who's who and what's going in.

It's interesting how different the opinions are from those who are watching it for the first time at home.

Oh it was tough in the theater too. My favorite movie trope is people who walk into rooms and don't turn on lights. I'm sure many detectives make sure they have the least amount of light possible at a crime scene.

I was watching "The Rental" this weekend (it's boring and kinda bad) and there's a whole scene where four people are having a full-out conversation in a room with no lights on, only lit by the moon outside. It was so stupid.

The Batmobile scene probably won’t have the same kind of impact on a home viewing. Even if you think you have the most kick ass sound system ever.

Exactly the scene that was blaring when I typed that post...too bad I couldn't really tell what was happening on the screen.

Funny, I actually never felt the film's length.

Not hating just not blown away by it, here at least

I didn't have an issue with sound though, sounded fucking great here.

But you know if it was some MCU film that was 3-hours long, they wouldn't be complaining.

The “free” watchers hated Eternals too.

Re: The Batman (2022, D: Reeves) S: Pattinson, Kravitz, Wright, Dano - The Spoiler Reviews Thread

Watched it yesterday.
Had no issue with it being too dark.
The Sound was good but even with a decent home theater Atmos system it surely sounded amazing at the movies.

Funniest thing in this discussion, Draven complaining that vigilante superheroes shouldn’t hide their identity. 😆

Thought the movie was a bit long.
Had to stop about halfway through to take a brake.

Didn’t care for Kravitz at all. Way too skinny and small for this character.
No chemistry with Pattinson even a little bit.

Didnt care for that Joker bit mostly because I don’t care for this version of the Joker.
At this rate the next iteration of Joker will look like the Toxic Avenger.

Loved the Batmobile. First time it fired up was a great on screen intro.

Thought Pattinson was just fine as Batman. His Bruce Wayne needs a haircut

Riddler was terrific, very creepy.
colin Farrell stole the show as Penguin.
He might be the best accent guy out there. Unless you were told I doubt anyone could have figured out it was him.

Will watch it again but don’t see it having much replay value after that.
Just wasnt compelling enough.

*sigh* I was just suggesting that maybe, just maybe, a Batman movie would try, I dunno, mixing it up a bit. I mean, okay, I guess. If that's all we can do with this character, that's all we can do. I just thought it might be interesting to see what happens when Batman faces some different challenges besides the Joker and PG-rated flirting with Catwoman.

I’d like to see less joker too but you’re not getting BruceWayneMan anytime soon in a movie.

There has been so much more variety in Batman films over the past 40 years than what the MCU is doing.

If they had cut down on the long, dramatic pauses the film probably would've been shorten by 30 mins.

Overall, I think this new Bats would've worked much better as a HBO Max series. I could've seen run for several seasons like GOT and go through the Rogues Gallery.

I paid to see it in a theater and I didn't like it. I've never been a big Batman fan though, and the more dark, gritty, and grounded they make these movies, the less interested I am.

Watched it on Max the other night. I liked it. I personally felt like they DID try to mix it up a bit. More detective work. Bruce being more of a recluse than a playboy. I thought they were going to make him too emo, but I didn't think it was that bad. Casting was all pretty top notch, really enjoyed a lot of the cinematography. I would definitely watch a sequel. I'd be interested to see if they have Bruce develop his public image more into the playboy as time goes by. All in all, better than I was expecting.

I was pleasantly surprised by this when I watched it last night. Definitely a different take on the character and an interesting one at that. I'm not a big DC fan but I've probably seen all the iterations of live-action Batman and I feel this holds it's own, been years since I saw Clooney or Keaton so it's hard for me to rank, not as good as Bale but possibly on par with Affleck.

Watched this with the teen last night. We both really liked it. I think the length suited the intent of the movie, which flowed nicely. Definitely would have been worth seeing in the theater especially for the fight in the dark hallway with all the guns. Weirdly, or maybe not, it felt like the most 'realistic' and plausible of all Batman movies to date. I'll definitely watch it again, maybe with a little more caffeine in my system.

i've watched that ending a few times already and rewind the very last shot numerous times. i don't know if i could watch the whole thing again, but that last 20 minutes or so is utterly captivating. very different than other Batman films where you never know if the Batman knows his purpose or thinks he is doing good for Gotham.

this one surely tells you and the whole beacon of hope thing we see in the water filled arena and when he recites on that last day of this film is just different, more hopeful than other movies that preceded it with same character. and that swelling Giacchino music at the very end and Pattinson's determined look as he rides to help is a great way to conclude this chapter. i may have to rethink my rating based on the ending alone.

I think that was my favorite scene too because we see Batman helping people instead of just fighting a bunch of thugs.
