I should be on the mailing list as well. Let me know if you need me to send you my info again. I will also post online once I learn how and where.

My name is missing from the mail group despite having e-mailed my info quite some time ago. This bothered me initially, but I think I'd like to retract it at this point anyway. I have obligations with another exchange and can't really spare the funds right now ($40+) to pack and ship all these CDs.

I would, however, still like to participate in the downloadable portion.

I think, because of shipping costs, I'm going to have to retract as well. I'm very sorry!

I will be using this weekend to finalize my mix cd, so I will be ready to go on the 4th.
Looking forward to hearing some new music.

Is there a standard format for the cds? Are we going to have a sheet of notes with song and title? Or is it going to be just a cd? I ask, because I expect to get a lot of music I don't know. And if I really like a song, I'd like to know who it is by so I can search out more music.

Or, are we going to handle it where just the cd is shipped with the name of the mixer and you ask about certain songs in the thread?

Obviously that won't be an issue in the email group as the MP3 files will have the information in the properties of the file.

I just edited a cover/liner notes I had created a while back to include the info specific to the new mix. I'm really hoping everyone includes a track listing of some sort with their cds.

Bus, ygm.

vryce,
I think it's up to you how you want to do it. I, personally, plan to include artwork with a tracklisting, but the tracklisting will be inside (ie: not immediately accessible).

Game On!

I plan on posting my tracklist here only a few days after I've shipped it, so that people have the opportunity to listen to it, consider it and then find out who it is. I will definitely not do any artwork.

may I suggest that, if we're going to post tracklists here, we do it within spoiler tags? That way, if we're still awaiting our CDs, we don't accidentally see what's coming to us.

The Bus,
I also think it'd be a good idea to either start a new thread or erase all posts in this thread after everyone has shipped their CDs, so we can start a fresh discussion on the actual music we'll all have. Maybe keep a brief description of the project in the first post or something, so people can read along?

Agree on both accounts:

I was going to post my tracklist in spoilers, but I neglected to mention it!

I think it would be easier to simply start another thread for discussion of it.

I'm sort of glad I didn't make the mail list because I wouldn't have had time with work being nuts. But I'm still totally up for online and was wondering if there is a consensus on how this will be done (and if we can post the links here?). I'll gladly listen to/share any comps like this.

Damn, i would have loved to have gotten in on this a week or so ago..but even if I could get into this first group, I can't put together a CD of mixed music over this weekend...Is there a waiting list for the next time. If there is Bus, I would gladly have my name added to the wait list.

I plan on making a second thread on the 4th or 5th once I get all the confirmations.

Mail Group: Email me with your name, address, email (I lost your address ). Make ~20 mix CDs. Tell me you've made them by the 4th (Monday). On the 5th or 6th, I will email everyone who has participated and tell them WHERE to mail the CDs. You mail your CDs to the participants. You receive CDs, and enjoy.

Internet Group: Make a mix and host it somewhere. ABSOLUTELY do not post the link to it here. Send me your info and I will send out an email to everyone detailing where everyone's mixes are. If someone has a better more centralized way of doing this, contact me, but I'm certainly not hosting anything as I wouldn't know if your specific music was licensed for me to do that. If you're in the mail group, you get the links to the internet group as well.

I'd like to get into the mail group.

Even though I just discovered this thread today, I can create something with a theme and have it ready by Monday. I won't have time for fancy cover art, but I should be able to include a folded track list so recipients can look or not look as want.

CD Mixer in NY

If anyone lives in NYC, there's a group that I meet up each month for drinks & cd trade. It started up a couple of years ago in NYC, & Josh Benton, from Texas, who had started trading via snail mail, founded the idea.

For more info on the NYC mixer...

Is there a certain way to make booklets (besides putting it on a piece of computer paper.)
Since I've been sick the past week, I might have to go out and buy more CDR's, so i can get shipping to everyone (my mix has been done for a few weeks)

If we're doing downloadable mixes, is it alright to submit more than one? I generally like to split anything electronic away from other styles of music.

I'm interested in participating in the electronic group. For all those involved, are you posting one file of edited MP3s, or a zip file of multiple MP3s?

I'll probably do a zip of the indivdual MP3s along with a playlist file; if I do a second electronic-only mix, that'll be edited as one continuous track.

How do you create a playlist file with iTunes?

Got my mix done today, don't know if people will dig as I had some trouble coming up with it. Will send the CDs out later in the week once I get a confirmation of the number people doing the mail version and where to send them.

iTunes? Not my area, I'm afraid. It'll be an .m3u file from Winamp; I don't know if/how other players handle those, but I always rename the individual files so they'll play in order (i.e. 01. Band - Track, 02. Band - Track...) in case someone can't use the playlist.
