Re: Dawson's Creek any good

I got hooked on the series a few years ago but agree that later seasons went downhill. Base on some of the OP's recent posts, he liked some older series so the datedness might not bother him that much.

I own Season One and it still holds up. The writing is very unique and good and the show is very enjoyable. That said, IMO the rest of the series never lives up to the first season, though it does have highlights here and there.

I agree with this but still think seasons 2 & 4 hold up nicely as well (season 3 suffers from a lot of loose plot lines with no resolution, and you could tell they were scrambling the first half of the season to continue the series with Kevin Williamson, the show's creator).

Re: Dawson's Creek any good

*Seasons 1, 2 and 3 are really good as a whole.

*4 is terrible after the first handful of episodes

*5 has a few really, really well written episodes (Appetite for Destruction is one of the best episodes from the show) but it also has what is probably one of the worst episodes from any show during this season as well - Downtown Crossing

*The final season (6) is just going through the motions but I do give it to them for going with the ending.

However, I just can't watch this show anymore because of the music changes. I know I sound like a broken record in threads mentioning this show because I always bring up the music changes, but it seriously sucks! I would be all over these on dvd. I should have never stopped recording them off TBS when the show was airing then.

The Eve storyline is jarring, but the third season is really great with the whole triangle. The Longest Day is probably my favorite episode from the show.

To be honest, I forgot about the last 10 or so episodes because of the beginning. But you are correct the second half of the series (and especially the season finale) was the show at the top of it's game. I still remember the promo for "The Longest Day" with the scenes of a storm coming with a Madonna song playing.

The ending makes up for the last two or three seasons--it's great. I started watching the series on DVD while it was still on so I actually watched the finale after I'd only watched a season or two so I didn't get a lot of the references.

I recorded a whole bunch of episodes since I was using the TBS reruns to catch up before they came out on DVD. I probably could have saved myself some anguish by just watching the DVDs but I did get to watch with the original music.

I was just thinking the other day that Dawson is now the most obscure of the four.

I agree about the music it completely ruined a huge part of the shows charm. So much so I'll NEVER buy these, even at $4 a set. They butchered the show if you ask me. I do have the first season or two on vhs from airings though which is good enough for me, thank god.

You two are not alone. I do own the first 2 seasons on DVD as, at the time, this was my favorite show on television. I know even those sets have some changed music, but starting at season 3 to completely crap all over the entire show by changing all the music including THE THEME SONG (which come on admit it, while annoying, really set the tone for the show) was inexcusable in my mind.

I want to own seasons 3-6, but can't bring myself to support that kind of butchering.

I might need to pick up that issue. Funny thing is I randomly watched the series finale this year on a whim.

Has Josh Jackson been up to anything since Fringe ended?

Ugh - 20 years? I remember watching the premier. It was “racey” because they referenced masturbation in the premier.

The show actually was pretty good for a solid 6 years if I recall. I think season 7 got a bit loose with Dawson getting on the fast track to directing.

Still didn’t sit well Pacey and Joey ended up together.

He’s been on The Affair which is going into its fourth season inn Showtime. He’s currently doing Children of a Lesser God on Broadway.

Cool, thx. Glad to see he's still getting work. I still pop in The Skulls every so often. Love that movie.

Wasn't there a teacher/student thing with Pacey in that first season as well?

Re: Dawson's Creek Discussion Thread

That's a great photo shoot of the cast.

Hopefully I get that cover with the entire cast when my issue comes this week. Too bad they didn't get John Wesley Shipp and Mary-Margaret Humes to participate. I have to assume that maybe Shipp was in Canada doing The Flash and wasn't available to come.

I liked the show, but wasn't a hardcore fan. I watched seasons 1 and 2 on DVD and then jumped in to watch it live on The WB for it's final 2 seasons if I recall correctly.

I'd like to re-visit this again at some point.
