Jadzia, thanks for the picture. WOW. There were alot of them in that group. And now that I look at them, I can definitely see they are not of black descent. Jordis kind of reminds me of the oldest daughter on The Cosby Show. Maybe she has some Tonganese in her family.

Not only that but they were all brothers & sisters-- and I just read their All Music bio and the group was only 8 of the family's 17 children.

Honestly, I think that Suzie and Mig are the only ones that would want the gig more than anything right now.
I have to agree with a lot of that. Well Suzie does have a little something, I was especially impressed with her studio work. It comes down to whether she's singer enough to front a band like INXS (Zebop walks away whistling.) Mig probably does want the gig and I think the others failures might make it a distinct possibility and one I have no interest in.

In short, I think INXS is not in a great place now. For me, Tara with more chops would have been perfect...

Zebop, I am too impressed that you were able to come up with the actress' name. I usually have a head for trivia like this (that's why I'm good at the entertainment questions on Trivial Pursuit).

Just thought I'd bump this up for tonight. I thought this weeks "clinic" kind of sucked, but it was pretty funny watching some of them pose.

I thought Marty had the best original by far, and probably the best overall performance of the night. But his cover of "Everlong" was just horrible, IMO. Easily the worst (single song) performance of the night, for me.

JD's "original" actually was pretty good, but isn't it sort of cheating considering INXS gave them the backing music? He really just wrote lyrics.

Jordis sounded good tonight, but her original didn't really sound like a real song. The band sounded great behind her, but the singing didn't quite flow with anything, much like her other projects in recent weeks.

Suzie's original was a bit bland songwise but showcased her voice very well. The chorus needed just a little more kick.

MiG's ballad was REALLY bland. The sentiment was sweet, but that doesn't excuse him from the fact he wrote a song that sounded like a Tommy Page or Richard Marx b-side from 1989.

I'm trying to take my personal preferences out of it but its rather hard. Here are my rankings from best to worst on each performance

Cover Song
-----------

1) Jordis
2) Marty
3) JD
4) Suzie
5) MiG

Original
--------

1) JD - Sounded like an INXS song(Edited to say that I forgot this WAS an INXS song. Catchy.
2) Marty - I'm still singing it.
3) Jordis - I liked it. Not as catchy as the top 2 but was still good.
4) Suzie - Nothing memorable
5) MiG - Very unoriginal lyrics and not a song for this competition

I agree with this, I really like Marty's original - a lot. I also like JD's original. I thought Suzie's showed her vocals but was nothig special, Jordis' song sounded to Fiona Apple, and Mig's was the cheesiest (Richard Marx is dead on - I could not put my finger on it til your post) and this could help sink him on Inxs' radar.

I really liked JD's cover, good interpetation, which is where I think he has done good in the past when he makes the songs his own. I was not the biggest Marty fan, but after the last 2 weeks he is in the top 2 for me, with Marty, JD and Suzie in the top 3, followed by Jordis and Mig (he is still too Broadway for my taste).

Marty ROCKED!!!

I'm still singing his song, too!!! That was a great original.

I think Mig blew it, too....not INXS at all, and....I can't believe I'm saying this because I am REALLY not a JD fan - JD did really, really well tonight.

I don't think Jordis stepped up like she needed to....but I don't think it's because she lacks talent - I think she is lacking confidence....

I'm looking forward to tomorrow night's show....

I think Jordis is going home because she's not ready at this stage of her life to front a band. I think she has holes in her vocal range, and it shows in her performances of late.

Marty and JD are the only ones who dont put me instantly to sleep, and are the only two who even have a concept of what INXS was/is about.

Hate to say it but JD does get the INXS portion of the deal. Can't vouch for his saniety though...

Marty's original was really good--and he showed even more range.

Jordis was ok. For me, that original sounded more like a cry for help. Given her present circumstances it struck me as, "Hey, I Don't Like INXS, It's Not A Great Fit, Let Me Go Home, Please?"

With Ty out of the way, Mig might be more vulnerable--somebody's got to go home and it's probably not going to be Marty...

I thought both Marty and JD did really well tonight, and I'm thinking they may end up being the final two.

For me it was

Marty
JD
Suzie
Jordis
Mig

I think Jordis will go tomorrow.

Mig did ok with the cover, and yes, the ballad was touching, but it was out of place and seemed to be all over the place. sounded like a sad song from a broadway musical.

i am VERY disappointed that marty didn't rock out to everlong (would have been a great performance, IMO), but i can see why he didn't, since he was planning to yell a bit on "Trees".

wow, i still hate JD's personality, but he was probably the best overall tonight. it's close between he and Marty. JD's cover was a little better, Marty's original was a little better. I have been bored by JD's performances in the past. not this time, though.

Jordis' original was also all over the place. i wonder what it sounded like BEFORE the house band got a hold of it (in the show on VH1, the song had no direction, and the band basically had to rearrange it all).

Suzie did well. right in the middle for me. not as good as Marty and JD, not as bad as MiG and Jordis.

I used to think MiG was the frontrunner for all this, even that it could be fixed in his favor... but i've soured on him. doesn't seem to have any real talent for songwriting, and his stage moves are AWFUL.

Jordis is going home. She is not ready for the band, INXS.

As for some of the songs not being right for INXS, weren't some of these written long before the competition? If I was one of the singers, I would probably pick the best song rather than the one that I would think would be right for INXS. Tough call though.

I really don't think there should be an encore tonight. No one was especially good.

I think that Marty will get the encore with Trees though.

Yeah, Jordis or maybe Mig go home tonight. The fact that Mig didn't understand why Dave was trying to say his original didn't fit is not a good sign. That was probably the best I've seen JD, but compared to Marty's original it's still suckitude. Marty is infinitely more interesting onstage than JD. I wish Suzie had made her cover more funky or upbeat. I really like her voice.

Regardless of who wins this thing, I'm looking forward to seeing what each one of the final 5 do after this show. One thing that surprised me about this show is that almost everyone on it is more talented that 99% of the 'musical artists' who currently have hits on the radio.

Wouldn't it be funny if the contestants on American Idol were asked to come up with an original composition?

It would be about as funny if you asked any current POP STAR to do the same...

I noticed the Rockstar Music site doesn't have "Trees" or any of the other originals from last night up, but they have the covers. Are they saving the song(s) for the eventual album? They do have MiG and Deanna's originals from two weeks ago available.

Forgot to add earlier... I liked JD's bit with the megaphone.

JD was also the only one who took seriously the 'concert' aspects of it and blended seamlessly between the two songs...everyone else gave a Paul Anka intro to thier songs, which was gay.

My interpretations (and address much of the above) and order of impressiveness.

1) JD (by a mile).

His cover showed his originality and enabled him to escape the "You aren't Kurt Cobain and therefore you suck" mentality. His original was pure genious. Why? Why not show how you understand what INXS is looking for by adding lyrics to their already-existing song? Don't be jealous because you didn't think of it first . He wants to be the lead singer of INXS, and it shows.

2) Marty

Good job on making Everlong acoustic. The bottom line is that from what we saw in practice, he couldn't do Grohl electric. So instead of doing a bad or passing job that way, he slowed it down to his comfort zone. Dont' forget - even Foo's acoustic version of Everlong is very well known (and released as a b-side on oen of the singles). His original had a great poppy melody, but the lyrics were fart-ass terrible. I'm very uncertain about his skills as a song-writer. As a performer, he's excellent. I'm not convinced he still wants INXS, but I think that he might be a finalist.

3) Suzie

Her cover was excellent. It's amazing how much better her voice has gotten over the course of the show. She still needs to work on her lower register, but that will come. Her original wasn't great, and calling attention to that whack-job Ty wasn't a good idea either. Her song wasn't INXS, and she got called on it. I think she's starting to move herself away from the lead-singer gig.

4) Mig

H2H was definitely out of his range, and he didn't get all the lyrics right. But he was smart enough to make up for it with stage precence and a shaved chest. His original sucked donkey-balls, was nowhere near INXS, and his justification was seen right through by the band. I think he still wants INXS, and he'll probably have to prove it with INXS songs from here out.

5) Jordis

Her cover was terrible. I swear the girl has zero sense of time and melody. It was better than JD, but she didn't do anything to endear the song. Her original made zero sense and had no melody. It wasn't INXS, but then again, I've never believed that she was in this for them anyway.

On another note - I now think Navarro is a piece of shit. He has been entirely too critical of contestants, and tends to say more than even the band themselves. His ego is out of hand and he needs to dial it down. YOU aren't in INXS, dipshit.

Who's the bottom three? Suzie, Mig and Jordis. Jordis goes home, but if Mig gives a bad INXS performance, he might be too.
