Fringe--Series Debut--"Pilot"--9/9/08---95 minutes

Fringe

Someone bumped up a generic thread from a few months ago, but I think Fringe deserves an actual episode thread. I didn't watch the leaked pilot, so I am eagerly awaiting tomorrow's premiere.

Synopsis for Pilot:

Spoiler:

In the pilot episode, FBI agent Olivia Dunham (Anna Torv) recruits a brilliant but incarcerated scientist (John Noble) and his estranged, sharp-witted son (Joshua Jackson) to investigate an airborne tragedy that may harbinger a trend of increasingly unsettling phenomena. The executive producers include J.J. Abrams, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci.

I'll watch it, but let's hope Fox give it some time to build an audience.

Considering its a J.J. Abrams show, the promotion, and the money spent on the pilot I think FOX is gonna do all they can to make this get respectable ratings.

I enjoyed the pilot. I will be watching on a regular basis. Lets hope the average viewer doesnt think this is too complicated like they did Journeyman. Even though it was on a different network.

People thought journeyman was complicated? It was basically quantum leap but probably even less complicated if that is possible. Maybe if they had a summary of the situation in the intro like quantum leap did people might have got it. hmmm now that I think about if you just jump in on a random episode you wouldn't have any idea what was going on.

Is this show going to be a serial show, a la Lost & 24, or will it be self-contained episodes?

My guess is that it will be combination of serial and episodic. Kind of like House. Long term badies with episodes revolving around evil inventions.

My guess is that you will need to watch the entire season to fully comprehend the story arc. I don't think you can watch the pilot and then watch episode 12 and know what the hell is going on.

I just read that without commercials, the Pilot runs roughly 82 minutes. 13 minutes of commercials is actually not bad.

Right now, I'll watch anything JJ Abrams is attached to. I have hopes that this won't disappoint. I also have hopes that FOX won't fuck us on this one.

I'm definitley in for this. I'm a fan of the production crew (hopefully it was a little more Lost S1 than Lost S2).

I heard an interview with one of the actors on the radio this morning, and he stated that each episode is a single, stand-alone story. You do not need to watch any other episodes to understand each. However, he said, because it is J.J. Abrams and Bad Robot, there will be a subtle understory that can be followed through reoccurring images and the like. He said it was just about the opposite extreme of Lost in terms of story arc.

Edit:
Spoiler:
He also noted the show has no tie to the paranormal and is instead based on "fringe" science instead.

I am taping this and may let it sit for a few weeks to see peoples reaction to the show and ratings. I don't want to get burned by FOX.
