I dug it... i see how people think its based on xfiles, i also see how people see it based on comics. Why not just let it stand on its own merits and judge it that way.

FRINGE obviously has a lot put into it, but the finished product -- at least, as witnessed in the first episodes -- was disappointing. Same with HBO's TRUE BLOOD. I'm hoping both will improve, but if they don't soon? Gone.

Show has a ton of potential, hopefully it will cash in on it (meaning better future episodes, not making a buck...)

Add me to the camp that wasn't sold off the bat. I think there were some interesting parts and plenty to build on, but this definitely does not make my Top 10 Pilots list. I think Joshua Jackson was one of the highlights once he stopped calling her nicknames (which got annoying fast). Hopefully he'll start using his IQ to help out some more. As it is, he hasn't done much aside from get his dad out.

Maybe I missed it, but did they ever explain why the guy on the plane injected himself with that stuff? What was the point other than killing himself and everyone on the plane? Why do that?

I think the twin wanted to demonstrate his new virus to prospective buyers, so he switched his brother's medicine with the stuff. The guy on the plane probably thought he was just taking insulin.

Anyone catch the clip/teaser for the 2nd episode? Absolutely nothing new there; we've seen it before in the Fly 2, Species 2, and any other sci-fi horror show with something nasty in a suddenly pregnant woman's uterus. Sure, we didn't get to see the reveal, but it can hardly be that shocking.

I already saw the pilot last week, but I tuned into the final 2 1/2 minutes to see the trailer for 24: Redemtion (aka 24: Exile) looks awesome by the way.

I found it painful to watch. The acting was horrid. I made it to about 30 minutes in, and then I had to leave the room. Usually, I think when actors who are normally good, are all horrible in a new series, it must be the directing. Perhaps I'll give it one more episode (sometimes different directors do other episodes), but if it's as painful to watch as now, then I'll be done.
I was surprised there wasn't more comments on the horrific acting.

It was serviceable. I'll keep watching for a few reasons. One, most of my shows are non-episodic. I welcome a quality show with standalone episodes. Assuming it reaches a better quality level.

I didn't think the main story in the pilot was anything special, but I did like all the main characters and the whole general setup. I'm optimistic it will start to find its groove once it gets rolling, like another former Tuesday Fox show Bones did.

I agree. Alot of people weren't fond of Bones when it debuted. I recall some people thought Emily Deschanel was terrible. But, the show found it's groove midway through it's 1st season and look where it's at now. It's one of FOX's top rated shows.

Finally got around to watching it.
The first half of the show was just fucking awful. I barely made it through. I really couldn't have given two shits about any of the characters or the situation.
The second half, once they brought in Walter Bishop, livened up a bit, but there are still a number of problems.
Confusing end. I had to go back and rewatch it in order to figure out what was going on. It's hard to pay attention with all of the shit acting and lame writing in this thing.
Bad acting. Anna Torv and Joshua Jackson can't carry this show -- they have no charisma. The only actors who didn't come off as cold fish were John Noble and Lance Reddick. Otherwise, the cast seemed straight out of a daytime soap.
Kirk Acevedo was good on Oz, but he had nothing to do here. And because of that, every time he came onscreen all I could think was hey, it's that guy who hate his own shit on Oz playing a cop.
Didn't buy that Joshua Jackson or his character was some kind of super genius. I was sort of hoping that he was going to be smooth-talking, fast-thinking conman like Frank (Catch Me if You Can) Abagnale, but instead he was just Sawyer, tossing around snark, petty torture, and stubble.
The characters just aren't that interesting. I never really gave two shits about the Olivia/John relationship, and was sort of hoping that John died because he was such a dull character.
The scene with Blair Brown and the robotic arm seemed like it came from something else. Very weird. The X-Files would never have worked if, in the first episode, you had people running around with cybernetic body parts and Vulcan mind-melds. The cool thing about the X-Files was that it came off as something that could be happening in our world. Fringe is pulling out the science fiction cards too early, I fear.
All in all, it comes off like a fourth-generation X-Files knock-off; it feels like one of those series that debuted after the initial success of "Lost" (Surface, Threshold, Jericho, Invasion). It's a big-concept genre series that feels like it exists to ride someone else's coattails.
I do, however, think there's enough for it to discover its own voice and direction, but I question whether Fox will keep it around long enough to find out. And even then, I'm still not sold on the two lead actors being able to carry the series.

I finally got around to watching this also. It was ok. It didn't really grab me, although I didn't outright hate it either. I will give it some time.
My problem with the pilot is that I don't think it really set up the series that well. After you watch a pilot, you should have a good idea of what the show will be about, what type of formula it will follow, etc. Other than Olivia, I wasn't really sure who future episodes will focus on. Does she now have a different job investigating this stuff? Is she going to be just researching this conspiracy or just general "fringe" science? etc. I think this will take me a few episodes to see what the rhythm of this show will be about. I thought this pilot was pretty vague and didn't really establish much other than some vast corporate conspiracy (gee haven't seen that on a show before.)
I'll keep watching for now, but this show is going to have to start going somewhere in the next couple of episodes.
I did like the twist with Mark Valley.
