I don't really care about the talk shows but O'Brien should change his name to nancy or something. This is Conan:

I love CoCo, but he needs to stop the stupid Tyler Perry skits. They're not funny.

So they're more like accurate homages then.

I may be the only one here to say this, but I LOVE when Will Fortay (or whoever the fuck he is) plays Teddy Turner

Wow, is Fallon's show taped in 30 rock? I'm surprised COnan would set foot in that studio again. Though, I guess it has changed owners recently...

Conan must be desperate for publicity for his new show. He looked seriously uncomfortable doing that brief gag, and not in a comedic way. I never thought I would see him on NBC ever again.

I thought it was pretty funny. I'm sure it was a little awkward for him to go back on NBC programming after what he went through with them, but at the same time I think some of the people there he's still friends with (I'd imagine Fallon is one). Also I don't really see how it comes across as sad or looking for publicity for his new show. He's taping a week of shows in New York and dropped in to do a short bit. Don't see your point really.

I would love if that means Triumph can triumphantly return to Conan's brand.

I would also love to see the return of Canada's other rock n' roll trio!

Conan knows what happened to George Lopez and when he gets axed from his current show because of low ratings he wants to have all options open.

I doubt he did it for that reason. If he can't make it on TBS there probably aren't any options left for him on TV. Especially not on NBC.

Nah, he could still end up on Current. They'll hire anyone.

Yup. That's how the talk show host circuit works. Do a guest spot, later on they'll give you your own show.

Re: NBC: let's see how low we can go (Conan thread, part 2)

I know its easy to say this now, but Conan's ego not allowing him to continue at Midnight on NBC did him and (especially) his staff no favors.

He had 10x the budget money at his disposal to produce a much better product at NBC, and he didn't take it. He got a sweet buyout, and obviously, that was too tempting for him not to take.

His TBS show has a somewhat amateurish (low budget) look and it shows.

If midnight's good enough for Jimmy Kimmel, it should've been good enough for Conan.

I could've bet, if he stayed at NBC, that within 2 years, he would've been back at 11:30 because Jay's 30 minute lead-in show would've been a bust.

Conan's show has always been low budget looking. It's because they don't do traditional comedy, instead looking to do zany sketch comedy.

Did you ever watch Late Night at all? Conan's show has never been about big budgets and trying to be the flashiest show on television. He does a relatively basic show with goofy over the top sketches. It's all part of the charm of the show to me at least.

Yea. A lot of comments from people who don't 'get' Conan. It takes a certain kind of person to like his style. And he doesn't stoop to reeling in other demographics. Get over it.

Read "The War for Late Night" by Bill Carter.

A) Conan's issue was that he had turned down potentially more lucrative offers from other networks to stay at NBC while having the lead off late night spot. NBC was reneging on that agreement.

B) Conan wasn't ever going to get the "prime" late night spot back, regardless of how the proposed Leno lead in show performed. They would have brought in a new person to do a new show or they would have done away with the late-night talk show altogether.

C) Outside of one NBC suit (Jeff Zucker, believe it or not. He was the guy that promoted Conan to the Tonight Show), most of the NBC execs didn't "get" Conan and found his comedy too niche for the Tonight Show timeslot. They tried to get him to broaden his comedy, and when he didn't broaden it enough, some of them took it personally (NBC Sport's Dick Ebersol in particular) and fought Conan's camp pretty hard. His days were numbered at NBC pretty much either way, but the way it went down allowed he and his crew to work and start the "Legally Prohibited" tour and sign on with TBS.
