The amount of commercial breaks was ridiculous, even when using the Tivo.

I want Juliette back - and soon damnit.

Well, Miles seemed to realize Sayid was not dead. Before this episode, I was thinking Jacob moved to Ben since he was the last person he touched before dying, and it would keep the Locke vs. Ben dynamic going. But, I'm thinking somethings going on with Sayid now.

One other thing is different in the new timeline, they didn't try to match the hairstyles with bad wigs. Most noticeable are Charlie and Jack.

Also, the last thing this show needed was new characters added, but looks like we've got a whole new group of islanders that of course we've never seen before. And two alternate timelines going, which means they can basically reboot the whole thing and simply drop in a few "ah ha" connection moments to fool everyone into thinking they aren't making this up as they go along. And a dude that can turn into a smoke monster but no one thinks to ask him directly about that.

Oh LOST...you never change, do you?
Have you ever really liked this show or just like to bitch about it? And if some guy turned into a smoke monster in front of me and murdered several people I doubt that the first thing I'm asking him about is that.

Anyone think they'll dig up Juliette and put her in the reviving pool?

Love the 'Evil Locke' ... O'Quinn's the best actor on the show.

Excellent premiere. Lots going on.

Still not sure why Jacob allowed himself to die so easily.

Yeah, that pretty much describes LOST. I'm surprised you watched beyond the first season.

Other NC differences:
Hurley is in row 33 (was 20)
Boone in same row as Locke.
Some of the shots, the plane appears to have 6 seats across. In the shot with Boone and Locke talking, it looks like it has 8 across (2,4,2).

he's great. but i think michael emerson, when written like he was the last 3 seasons, is a tad better. his range is unbelievable. his transition from good guy to bad guy and back n' forth is uncanny. you can't go wrong with either of them. that's why they both have emmy's for the show. the premiere needed alot more of desmond though.

Sounded like they got Greg Grunberg back to voice the pilot of flight 815. I wasn't 100% sure, but while googling ran across his twitter page and found this as the most recent entry:

"This is Capt. Seth Norris, please fasten your seat belts, it's going to be a bumpy final season of LOST... and by bumpy I mean AWESOME!!"

Plane looks like it only has 6 seats per row (originally 9)
Also wasn't Rose the nervous one on the original flight and Jack calmed her down? Seems like it flipped on the NC timeline.

Also, Cindy said "They were on the first plane. Oceanic 815. With me." Was there another plane after that one that I'm forgetting about?

I was wondering about the plane comment myself.

This show continues to throw more WTF moments at us. I'm as confused as ever. Though, admittedly, still hoping for a mind-blowing conclusion.

As crazy and unique and amazing as this show has been, is there any way they can actually deliver a satisfying conclusion that could possibly live up to our astronomical expectations?

Oh, and as far as learning answers:
We learned what was in the guitar case.
What the black powder around Jacob's house was for.

I thought they were supposed to be tying stuff up this season and it seems like they just splayed the whole thing open again and threw us a shitload of questions. I'm not complaining though. That was awesome.

I don't know how y'all can say that this episode didn't answer ANY questions...

-The Nuke created parallel dimensions (it seems) where both the island has been destroyed (and is shown as being underwater) and another where the Losties are blasted back to their original date and time.
-The Temple is shown for the first time, inhabited by the dude from The Last -Samurai and a Hippie (spinoff? )
-Evil Locke = Smokey
-Juliet DEAD
-Sayid DEAD then ROSE AGAIN (tying into the Jesus analogy for Jacob, get it?)

That's a LOT more than we usually get. I actually felt sorta rushed as compared to previous seasons, lol.

Strongly agree. I don't understand if people were expecting them to just start checking off questions without keeping everything interesting and moving. I couldn't believe how forthright the answer was about Evil Locke turning into Smokey "I'm sorry you had to see me like that" or something.

You wouldn't say "what are you??" Because I would.

I have watched since the premiere and loved the first season. It has gone downhill ever since as the show has gotten more and more convoluted, confusing for the sake of confusing and downright silly...culminating in last season "who cares anymore what we do" time travel nonsense.

I had read that this season would be more straightforward, without the time travel or the flashback/forwards, but I'm already a little disappointed in this "alternate reality" direction.

Can anyone honestly say that the events from the beginning of the show have any bearing on what's happening now? Everything is constantly changing and being reset. They have changed the past. They've changed the future. Anything that was set before is thrown out as new characters are introduced, old ones "die" then "return" for shock value. Nothing is consistent anymore, and no one is holding anyone accountable because "OMG DID YOU SEE THE DHARMA LOGO ON THAT SHARK BEST SHOW EVAH!!!!"

This show went from a group of airplane crash survivors on a mysterious island to a time-travel-smoke-monster-war-between-gods-everyone-is-connected-mess. I miss when the show was unraveling an interesting mystery. I miss when the most confusing things were a polar bear and a strange transmission.

I have zero faith they will be able to pull this together in a satisfactory manner. At this point, I honestly watch the show because I like the characters and the actors who portray them. And my wife loves it. I've just completely given up on the story, and I'm convinced that the writers don't think half as hard about the story as the fans do.

Also, didn't realize that it was bad to offer a contrary opinion. Was this thread supposed to be a love-fest for LOST?

That's an assumption. It hasn't even been acknowledged by the characters. I'd like to know why a nuke didn't kill them, only threw them into some trees.
-The Temple is shown for the first time, inhabited by the dude from The Last -Samurai and a Hippie (spinoff? )
Ok great. What is the temple? Showing it isn't answering anything.
-Evil Locke = Smokey
That's not an answer. That's a more confusing question. The question is "What is Smokey" and the answer should be...this is what Smokey is. At this point I would take "it's a collection of sentient dirt particles" as long as SOMEONE would stop just accepting that thing as part of the scenery.
-Juliet DEAD
We'll see. She should have died when she fell down a huge shaft and then tons of construction equipment fell on her and then a nuke went off three feet away from her face but hey, who's counting?
-Sayid DEAD then ROSE AGAIN (tying into the Jesus analogy for Jacob, get it?)
I don't get it. Who or what is Jacob? Why did that pool of water bring a person back to life? What is the hourglass for? Why did they have to kill him first? The guy knew that the water wasn't "working" because it didn't heal his hand, but they threw Sayid in anyway. Why??

"Things happening" is not automatically an answer to a question.

I was pretty underwhelmed up until the point that the temple people found out that the man in black is coming. I still feel it was lackluster overall (spare me all the Sawyer BS). Sayid's resurrection annoyed me because I was more interested in what they wanted with Jack and Sayid just had to go and be a plotblock.

Poor John. First he's murdered so the spirit of evil can use his body. Then he has to sit next to fucking Frogurt on the flight to Los Angeles.

I'd say there's also a good chance that Desmond was never on the race in this timeline.

The only reason that he did it was in order to impress Charles Widmore.

It would seem that Widmore was only being an asshole to Desmond in order to keep him away from Penny and get him on the island to push the button. Notice how his attitude toward Desmond changes after he makes it back from the island.

Without the button to press, Widmore wouldn't need to try to drive a wedge between Penny and Desmond. Desmond doesn't need a big stunt to impress Widmore.

I wouldn't argue that you have to like anything, but if you're going in with the need to have explanations as deep as not only what Smokey is but what it is physically comprised of, I would bet you're going to be sorely disappointed and in for some real frustration.

We've now been told that Smokey (at least at times) is the evil and violent manifestation of the Men in Black, aka Evil Locke, aka Jacob's nemesis. There are questions about why Smokey cannot pass the ash circles or what abilities to read minds or obtain additional information while in that form, but the answer as to 'what it is' has been given. Would any logical or rational explanation of how he transforms be anything but nonsense?

I also think that Smokey dragging Locke through the jungle in S1 takes much more precedence now that we know who/what was behind Smokey. I think it's safe to say that Evil Locke has been setting up this plot for a really long time and he knew Locke could be his linchpin. And I disagree that everything from early seasons has been rendered meaningless. I'm sure it won't all be tied up in a neat package, but I have a feeling that everything from early season (especially S1) will become more and more meaningful upon learning new information.
