Re: Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Celebrations/Special
Yeah, if we are going to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the show we need to feature more than just the last eight years of it.
The mini episode was terrific. I was spoiled on McGann's appearance but git a huge thrill from the callback to Brain of Morbius.

I watched that with NO IDEA WHATSOEVER who was going to be in it...
Amazing! McGann, the Sisterhood of Karn, the regeneration...
Though it does make me sad that we never got more McGann as the Doctor. He would have been great. Maybe we can get a flashback season or something leading up to the Time War. (Okay... now I'm getting too fanboy.)

Funny you should mention more McGann, as Big Finish is running a sale to celebrate his return: http://www.bigfinish.com/news/v/spec...octor-s-return

Mind, I still haven't bought any DVDs of the old series.

Well, Moffat effectively made them canon by having the Doctor list the Big Finish companions in his apology. I suggest you check out Storm Warning, the first appearance of Charley, which I believe is extra discounted. If you don't like it, it's not a big loss.

Re: Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Celebrations/Special
I use to get the monthly series but it got too expensive once Big Finish started bringing out so many spin-offs. The audios are really good tho. You should try a couple. At least "The Light at the End" which is Big Finish's 50th Anniversary audio.
My interest were mainly with the Sixth and Eighth audio adventures because it gave those two Doctors a chance to grow. Colin Baker was finally allowed to play the Doctor how he wanted.
Big Finish sure is milking their shout out in "Night of the Doctor." Good for them!

Big events in the Who world today as Paul McGann returned to the role of the Eighth Doctor in brand new online minisode The Night of the Doctor! To celebrate all things 8 and give new fans a jumping-on point for our (definitively canon!) adventures, you can get any of the Eighth Doctor Adventures on download for £4.99

They should be proud. If it weren't for them, McGann wouldn't have the esteem in the role that he now does.

Now that I've let the thing sink in, I wonder if this is also on out on the regeneration count.
The Sisterhood of Karn resurrected the Doctor from death, giving him enough time to regenerate. They could use that to effectively reset his count or give him unlimited regenerations. (For those who worry about such things. I've always been of the opinion that it's something that can easily be waved away.)

The regeneration count will obviously be waved away, even without this. The easiest explanation was that the regeneration limit was imposed by the Time Lords, and since they are gone, voila! No limits.

Since the Time Lords offered the Master a new set of regenerations back in "The Five Doctors" it's not exactly a hard-and-fast, insurmountable limit.

If one wanted to check out McGann big finish, are they sequenced? Do any of them pick up where the film left off?

None of them are direct sequels to the TV movie, but many of them are in a sequence. I believe Storm Warning, the one I mentioned earlier, is the first one sequentially.

^ Yes. Storm Warning was the first of McGann's Big Finish audios. For the first few years, his adventures were part of the monthly Doctor Who line. When the show came back in 2005, he got a series of Eighth Doctor Adventures broadcast on BBC Radio (produced by Big Finish). Those ran until 2011.
Now they're into Box Set releases. 4 or 5 audios sold together as one series. His first one was called Dark Eyes which introduced his newest companion Molly (mentioned in "Night of the Doctor," so they are up to date). His next series is set for February 2014.
If you're looking for a direct continuation from the TV Movie, look to the BBC Books 8th Doctor line which started with "The Eight Doctors." That story takes place right after the Movie and continues on from there.

Also, be warned, I've read several of the DW expanded universe books, and I thought that The Eight Doctors was awful. It read like bad fan fiction.

So Storm Warning isn't part of the "Eighth Doctors Adventures". Is there a difference? Do you have to buy directly through BF website?
