When the "new" Breaking Bad airs, I think we will know it right away. Breaking Bad was excellent right from the pilot. I remember when it aired you just knew this was going to be a great show.

No, not really. It was good from when it started, but not as great as it got, since it was a slow burn. There were definite lulls in there. Also, people didn't really start watching until it's 3rd season.

The moment when I thought "this is great" is when he confronted Tuco with the explosive.

Oh god, Tuco was the worst, and really dragged the show down - killing him off really invigorated the show.

Wasn't Tuco in about 3 episodes total?

Tuco was intense. After the explosion, I was on board long-term. The show is very bleak and strips itself of excitement for long periods of time. And then a fun scene like that happens. It's like drinking a glass of water in the desert.

Yeah, I loved the fulminated mercury scene at Tuco's. Killing Emilio was a quick, spur of the moment decision to save his life. Walt also wanted to let Krazy 8 go until he saw the missing piece of the plate, and that was also a self defense move.

But the scene at Tuco's was the first time Walt really had a choice and that was the point where it was clear that he could be a bad-ass.

Katzenberg offered to pay $75 million for three more episodes under the condition that the episodes be presented in 6 minute installments via online subscription.

That article led me to another article:

I just started reading it myself but found the fact that Vince and crew introduced the M60 before they even created the Nazi's to be interesting. They were essentially making it up as they went along but still managed to stay true to what they wanted to accomplish.

Some cool ideas, though a lot of those seem far fetched for the show and the writers throwing out any crazy fantasies they had. I actually thought it might have been possible for Skyler to commit suicide. The scene where her and Walt were wrestling with the knife before that happened I almost thought she was going to stab herself. The idea of Walt teaching chemistry voluntarily to groups is interesting too but it wouldn't have worked considering the manhunt for him.

Also as cool as it would be to get more episodes it shouldn't happen ever. The show closed very well and the story feels complete.

Re: Breaking Bad --> Series Finale --> "Felina" --> 9/29/13

I don't know how things work in a writer's room but I do think that a lot of it is a writer blurting out an idea and the other writer's working together to make the most sense out of it as they can before scrapping it for a better idea. So yeah I agree that some of those are far fetched, I also understand why they'd want to talk out every idea as much as possible.

I don't think I would have been ok with Skyler committing suicide. Suicide is a tough thing to pull off and I wouldn't have liked to see her 'give up' and leave Walt Jr and Holly behind. Yes, she probably would have left them with Marie but she still would have been giving up on her kids. I don't think "quitter" would have fit in with the Skyler character.

Yeah the only reason I thought it may have been a possibility is the fact that she seemingly attempted or at least contemplated it in Season 5A during the pool scene. She seemed to go off the deep end (no pun intended) for a while there.

And to think I joked about AMC airing the last episode 1 minute a year for the next 75 years! I was sadly closer to reality than I thought.

I wonder if the conclusion to Mad Men will be ambiguous enough and everybody money hungry enough that they'll do something like this. If not them, somebody eventually will. It's sad.

which is funny because if you were going to make a list of actors that could do Walter White justice if Cranston was not the guy doing it, a younger Hopkins would certainly be on the list.

Re: Breaking Bad --> Series Finale --> "Felina" --> 9/29/13

Here's the letter from Anthony Hopkins...

Dear Mister Cranston.

I wanted to write you this email – so I am contacting you through Jeremy Barber – I take it we are both represented by UTA . Great agency.

I’ve just finished a marathon of watching “BREAKING BAD” – from episode one of the First Season – to the last eight episodes of the Sixth Season. (I downloaded the last season on AMAZON) A total of two weeks (addictive) viewing.

I have never watched anything like it. Brilliant!

Your performance as Walter White was the best acting I have seen – ever.

I know there is so much smoke blowing and sickening bullshit in this business, and I’ve sort of lost belief in anything really.

But this work of yours is spectacular – absolutely stunning. What is extraordinary, is the sheer power of everyone in the entire production. What was it? Five or six years in the making? How the producers (yourself being one of them), the writers, directors, cinematographers…. every department – casting etc. managed to keep the discipline and control from beginning to the end is (that over used word) awesome.

From what started as a black comedy, descended into a labyrinth of blood, destruction and hell. It was like a great Jacobean, Shakespearian or Greek Tragedy.

If you ever get a chance to – would you pass on my admiration to everyone – Anna Gunn, Dean Norris, Aaron Paul, Betsy Brandt, R.J. Mitte, Bob Odenkirk, Jonathan Banks, Steven Michael Quezada – everyone – everyone gave master classes of performance … The list is endless.

Thank you. That kind of work/artistry is rare, and when, once in a while, it occurs, as in this epic work, it restores confidence.

You and all the cast are the best actors I’ve ever seen.

That may sound like a good lung full of smoke blowing. But it is not. It’s almost midnight out here in Malibu, and I felt compelled to write this email.

Congratulations and my deepest respect. You are truly a great, great actor.

Best regards

Tony Hopkins.

Just saw that letter, great stuff. Good to know that even Sir Anthony Hopkins can get sucked into this show and appreciate all the actors and elements. Wait a minute. I know that they use elements when listing the cast and crew's names, but now I realize further...that the people themselves are all elements of THE SHOW? HOLY SHIT.

Apparently the Dexter writers said that the Showtime execs made it a rule for that Dexter cannot die in the final season. They've run the show into the ground and now it seems, stifled ideas. Not that a simple change would make up for that shit last season. I feel that Dexter is the next candidate for a "redemption" season a la 24.

Great, now you ruined Dexter!

(Yes, I know the writers are the ones who actually did that, and I wasn't even a viewer!!! )

I liken the overall experience of watching Dexter to Alan Grant's experience at Jurassic Park. At first he's like "WTF you have a T-REX?!" Then eventually it all turns to shit and he just wants to get the fuck out of there. And then at the end you say "After careful consideration, I have decided not to endorse Dexter."
