Kiefer is now a free agent again.
No re-election for Tom Kirkman. Cancelled.
I think this lost people when it became a crisis of the week procedural this season as opposed to the heavily serialized conspiracy thriller in season 1.

Kill the proposed 24 legal thriller or whatever else they were developing and get the guys back for one last go around with Jack Bauer.
I'm sure Kiefer is going to take time off and won't jump into anything right away. I think he's touring with his country music band right now.

While I enjoyed season 1, I dumped the show about a quarter into season 2. Yes, I agree about it turning into a political procedural probably killed the show.
Kiefer, just do an annual 24 TV movie, take the paycheck, and call it a day.

Not terribly surprised. It's a decent show, but nothing groundbreaking.

Since both the last seasons of 24 and X-Files got poor ratings, Fox should just combine them into a crossover series. Kiefer and Duchovny can team up (since Anderson's not coming back). They can work on an X-Files case together in real time.

Why Designated Survivor was cancelled:
http://variety.com/2018/tv/news/desi...ed-1202807925/
Just a few notes in the story on why it ended:
Ratings collapse
Sutherland's contract would force a production move to Los Angeles, which would have raised production costs
High showrunner turnover. Yet another showrunner was hired for the prospective 3rd season. it would have been the 5th one
Sutherland was reportedly frustrated with the scripts

I'm still enjoying it, but I can't say I'll really miss it. Sutherland's talent is wasted on the bland storylines.

If Kiefer doesn’t come back for one last 24 season, he needs to forget network TV and do something dark and edgy on cable or streaming. Granted the paychecks will probably be less, but I agree his talent won’t be wasted like on the second season of this show.
And he needs to ease up on the script, location and showrunner approvals that all have to go through him. Makes him sound like he's difficult to work with. Probably because he’s not close to these other creative people like he is with Howard Gordon and Jon Cassar from 24, who are close friends of his.

Get Kiefer on something like Fargo or True Detective.

EOne, the company that produced this show, says they are going to try to shop it to other networks and streaming providers.
As you probably all know, shopping a cancelled show is rarely successful. So don’t hold your breath for a third season.

EXCLUSIVE: We reported earlier today about Designated Survivor producer eOne shopping the Kiefer Sutherland-starring drama to other networks following its cancellation by ABC. I hear that eOne is in talks with streaming giant Netflix about picking up the political thriller.
Sources stress that the talks are still preliminary and complex as Netflix rival Hulu has U.S. SVOD rights to the first two seasons of Designated Survivor, which aired on ABC. Netflix has the series internationally (outside of the U.S. and Canada), which makes it a suitable home pending untangling U.S. streaming rights and crunching the numbers.
I also hear that the series’ creative team is excited about exploring what a premium version of Designated Survivor would be.
As we pointed out earlier today, eOne, which is listed on the London Stock Exchange, has put out a regulatory statement, confirming it is “in active discussions with other parties for further series of the show.”
“That was a hard one for us,” she said. “It did well in delayed viewing but its Live+Same Day delivery in the 10 PM hour had become challenging.”
On a streaming platform like Netflix, that would no longer be an issue, and the show’s strong delayed and streaming numbers should be an advantage.
Dungey also noted that “creatively, the show had a lot of behind-the-scenes churn with the number of showrunners. Designated Survivor went through four showrunners for its two seasons on the air, and had a deal a place with a fifth to run the show in Season 3. I hear the new executive producer will likely continue if the series gets a third season elsewhere.
The political conspiracy drama began its run as one of ABC’s most promising. The network screened the entire opening act at its 2016 upfront presentation where Sutherland received a huge ovation. In its first months on the air, Designated Survivor drew large audiences, setting DVR lift records and snagging the Critics’ Choice award for most exciting new series in its first season.
The series saw ratings declines in Season 2 but continued to be helped by strong delayed increases.
In addition to Sutherland, the series also stars Natasha McElhone, Adan Canto, Italia Ricci, LaMonica Garrett, Tanner Buchanan, Kal Penn, Maggie Q and Paulo Costanzo.
David Guggenheim created the series and executive produce with Simon Kinberg, Mark Gordon, Jon Harmon Feldman and Nick Pepper. Suzan Bymel, Aditya Sood and Sutherland also executive produce. The Mark Gordon Company and ABC Studios produce.

Re: Designated Survivor (ABC) -- Season 2 Thread -- Premieres 9/27/17
If this manages to get picked up by Netflix and the writers get their shit together on the direction the show needs to head in, it could be a decent premium cable type thriller for Netflix Could be a decent heir apparent to House of Cards. But again, that's if the writers get their shit together and not create a West Wing light or Madam Secretary political procedural. The direction of the show was ruined IMO when the the serialized political thriller angle was wrapped so fast. Plus, if Netflix gets it, the show would be tightened up to 13 episodes instead of 22.
I'd be in favor of Kiefer dropping a few F bombs when something makes him furious in the Oval office.
But, as I said, these pickups are rare, so not holding my breath.

I hope Netflix gives this a chance. The plots were nothing special but the cast was great. I'd like to see it continue.

Netflix should buy the rights and reboot it, it's a great premise that could have been done a lot better.

According to Dalton Ross from EW: "Nobody cares about Designated Survivor" so it won't get picked up anywhere.

They've done some pretty amazing things with original premium content after starting out renting DVDs. What's your issue? No time or No budget to subscribe?
