This past episode was silly. No officer would be a "suspect of a homicide" and get mug shots taken for a by-the-book shooting where there was vest cam footage. The guy held a citizen hostage at gun point in their own home then pointed a weapon at an officer. Not shooting him would have been a crime. All the drama of the first half of the episode was not needed at all to set up the 2nd half.

It is.
Agreed. Overdoing it during the second half partially ruined what was otherwise an excellent mid-season finale. My wife and I were "Just look at the body cam footage!" which was made even worse when they eventually did view the body cam footage.

Yeah, the footage just made it even worse. All that nonsense with the questioning, THEN they watch the footage and realize it was by the books. Really bad writing. It was almost like they were trying to make a statement by showing a cop go through hell for shooting a perp, even though the situation demanded that Castle shoot him.

No one is talking about the other issue in the episode. Maybe Lucy is going to written off the show?
She lied in the IA interview by denying Nolan had been going through a break up. Then they slept together. She will save his life from the brother, and when the police arrive, everyone will find out they were sleeping together.
They have been foreshadowing that one in three rookies don’t make it. No way a probationary officer who lies in an IA investigation gets a slap on the wrist. She may get fired.

But as sherm was saying, maybe they wanted to have the investigation in order to put Lucy on the spot for lying in order to set up the resolution of this plotline. I agree that she probably saves him and then has to answer questions about why she was there.

Just got caught up in time for the mid-season return tomorrow night (although it may not air because of our fucking dipshit President's possible primetime speech)
Anyways, an otherwise good mid-season finale and intense cliffhanger was ruined when they went way overboard with the IA investigation against Nolan. No way any cop would have had to go through all that. The bodycam footage should have made it open and shut.
and yeah it looks like Lucy and Nolan could get caught if the teaser is right and hints that she shoots the brother, unless Nolan covers it up.
I do give Fillion credit for his acting in the episode. He did a good job showing some fear and guilt about killing someone for the first time.

I liked tonight's episode. Pretty intense stuff. The show has gotten more dramatic, and Fillion is handling that really well.

We were behind too and just caught up. The mid season finale was the best to date, and the first episode where we wanted to check out the following episode the following night.
agree that Nolan’s investigation was odd, especially having to tell his ex wife. Maybe they were trying to tell the police side of these police killings in the news.
didn’t much care for Lucy telling him not to say anything. Additionally, thought the investigation wrapped up really quickly. Just through a quick help on the raid? Also, no way Nolan would be first down the stairs when SWAT is there.
i did think the apartment building raid was good. Very tense, and didn’t expect the ambush on the two detectives!

The two uniform girls look so much alike I keep mixing them up, now Sarah is going to look like the Captain and I am going to mix them up as well.

They totally under-played how horrible of an experience getting sprayed directly in the face would be. Otherwise, entertaining episode.

This has quickly gone from “we’ll watch it when we get s chance” to “let’s what is the day after it airs!” I think it took them a bit of time to find their grove.
I aam surprised Nola didn’t get thanks for pulling him out of the gas. Also, the stupid thing for that scene was when he came out of the house other police and firefighters were just milling around!

We watch this show as a double feature with Lethal Weapon every week.
