With no games to bring those people on board, they'll have no incentive to buy a 360 instead of just waiting for the competion to launch with platformers, puzzlers etc.
I really don't see how you can differentiate between the announced lineups of the Xbox 360 and the PS3. It's all Action, Shooter, Racing, Sports, & RPG titles. There are no major platformers, puzzlers, etc. that have been announced to make people wait for a PS3.

On the flip side, Nintendo will have those types of games whenever they decide to launch their new console. But seeing how they will probably be the last to launch in mid to late 2006, MS has some time to relelase platformers and puzzle games should they decide to go after that portion of the market again.

They really weren't able to capture much of that market with those type of releases on the Xbox due to shitty games like Blinx or Voodoo Vince. Psychonauts was the only critical success. But nobody had bought the Xbox for platformers by that time, so it sold quite poorly.

As for puzzle games, I wouldn't be suprised to see MS just toss them out on Live arcade and be done with it.

I would like to see them throw out some Eyetoy like games when the camera comes out as well as something similar to the WarioWare game on the GC. If they hit some of those type games that total non-gamers can play they will nudge a few people over the edge. I know my wife asked if we could play Eyetoy stuff on the Xbox and was a little disappointed when i said no. If she has been wanting things like that before i bought the system it might have influenced my purchase some.

Granted i don't expect anything like that at launch, but hopefully a bit before the PS3 launches they will have some more of those interactive games like the Eyetoy or DDR etc.

Well, the PS3 launch lineup isn't out yet as it's still several months away.

And you're dead right that MS wasn't able to catch those types of gamers due to games like Blinx etc. sucking.

That just furthers my point. If they want to do anything other than finish a distant second again, they have to fix their mistakes/holes in their game library that kept people from buying an X-box, or annoyed purchasers into not getting a 360 off the bat.

Having some of these games at launch would have been a huge plus as they might have gotten some of these people to buy a 360 while it has no competition.

Perfect!
This is what I'm looking forward to at launch.

It's possible that PDZ might miss launch, but from everything I've read, the content's been done for a while...it's down to just optimizing and spiffing up. I feel pretty good about PDZ making it. People seem to be more skeptical about Kameo.
MS is very concerned with having a good stable of launch games, and has been taking every opportunity to let everyone know about it. They will launch the hardware when enough good software titles are available. What will or won't make opening day is beyond my knowledge. I will say though that MS will beat the Black Friday launch date being batted around the net over the past week or so. They'll be close, but I'm thinking they'll have 360 launched a week or so before Black Friday. There is enough going on that day without heaping a major console launch on top of it. MS want's to have the limelight to themselves when 360 launches.

I agree about this and the release date. I didn't mean to sound as if I was arguing otherwise.

Finally caved in and ordered a bundle from Gamestop.com, which isn't really much of a bargain since the bundle's cost is just the total cost of everything and I don't want a couple of the games, but shipping costs are far less than tax costs if I bought it B&M, so I guess I can't complain.

Can't get a better confirmation on the launch date than the official site.

One thing that pisses me off, Japan only has one bundle. The hard drive is standard over there as they are only getting the premium bundle, and it's only $350.

The $50 doesn't bother me, they need all the help they can in Japan, but the hard drive should be standard EVERYWHERE!

I don't get why the option of not having a hard drive matters. They and developers have stated that they CANNOT rely on the hard drive being there due to the fact that it is removable. So developers already have to have code in place in the case that a hard drive is not there (regardless of whether the machine came with one).

Being that they claim only 15% of the consoles sold will be the core unit, in the end, it won't matter for us. What you should be pissed about is that the hard drive is removable, if they didn't allow it, only then would it solve the real problem.

But anyway, I am fine with the 22nd, it is a bit later than the rumored dates (15th, and the 4th), and it could allow for a little more polish on some games, and a (hopefully) larger launch. Now I get to play it on a long weekend, that I will make sure is going to be even longer!

Dammit, looks like I'll have to preorder. There is no way I'm standing in line on Black Friday.

At least Nov.22 gives developers every last second to polish their launch games.

Couldn't you stand in line on 11/22 (Tuesday) or 11/23 (Wednesday)?

Hmmm, I guess I figured it would be like a game release. Released Tuesday, in stores by Thursday or in this case Black Friday.

But if it's "on store shelves" Tuesday as the press release says, I'll pick up one at midnight.

Thats becuase most people, myself included are hyped about Several games at release. I would probly be interested in buying close to 8 games at luanch, but only want to get 2 or 3 then wait for good sales or used games.

that 'video message' feature could be opening a can of worms.

Easy fix for spamming and what not is just make it so you can only video message people that not only you have on your friends list, but they have to have you on their friends list.

It's not really an issue because the friends lists on xbox live are mutual. If you want to have somebody on your friends list, you send them an invite, and they either either accept or reject the invite. If they accept, then each person is on the other's friends list; if they reject, neither person is on either's friends list.

Oh, right. It has been a while since I was on Live. There you go, the can of worms has been closed (for the most part).
