Yup. Like any skill, it takes practice. I've been playing since November, and the difference in how I played then vs. how I play now is huge. I still have a ways to go before I'm anywhere near the people I see playing Expert drums in those YouTube videos, though.

Gramps is a fiend on the drums btw. I saw him perform and he was rocking it out. I think the next thing for him will to practice spinning his sticks and throwing them in the air between songs.

I'm practicing the stick twirls but I'm not quite nimble enough to do it very well...yet. Also, if you haven't done so already, check out some of the YouTube Expert drum videos that show you the drummer's hands, feet, and the note chart all at the same time. The guy is an actual drummer, and if you think I'm good, you gotta see what he does.

I think my biggest weakness right now is rolls. I have a lot of problems doing them, especially on the faster songs. The timing is very tricky.

And your other problem is that my scores are creeping up to yours! Watch it!

UncleGramps' To-Do List:
  • Check leaderboards.
  • Put L&O in his place.

I threw out a 148k on More than a feeling last night, as well as a top 200 finish for Time Sick Son of a grizzly. Boo-ya! TimeSick was expert, Boston, just hard

Rank Coolness Score
179 LiverandOnions 114750

Yeah! That's for Grizzly.

I have found the Boston songs to be pretty tough to sing. Granted, i'm a terrible vocalist, but they have been somewhat challenging. China Cat Sunflower is another song i think is rough. CCS would be really difficult if you didn't know the lyrics ahead of time. The weird timing on the phrases makes it tough to sight read if you aren't using the static setup.

I still can't beat the Expert mode Don't Fear the Reaper (mid-section) or Foreplay on drums because my timing is off. They don't look remarkably hard, but I just can't get that damn beat down. I've four and fived starred everything up to that point (except, I think, Dead on Arrival. Which isn't nearly as challenging as it was, but man do I still hate it. (aka, I finished it and haven't looked back))

Well done! But...

Rock Band. UncleGramps. 05/14/08. Believe.

Though it sounds like RichC2 could beat both of us.

Don't Fear the Reaper was my road block for a very long time, then I discovered that my red pad was "bad"... Just in case you hadn't tried it, the "sock" technique really helped the responsiveness of mine (wrap a sock tightly around the center of the pad and tape its ends together). Once I did that, I got through DFTR pretty quickly. Foreplay... well, I don't really have advice there, jsut try to plow through .

I'm still stuck on Dead on Arrival on expert drums. The farthest I've made it, is about 20 something percent in. I just cannot get the timing of alternating the pedal and hands on that song. I think maybe I'm going too fast. I usually try it a few times, then go on and play something else for a while. Maybe one day I'll beat it.

Yeah, my red pad and green pad are bad, but I was too lazy to send off for a 4th replacement set. I'll try the sock bit later, as I think this is my problem too.

I haven't really tried Foreplay too many times, so maybe someday I'll get it .

That one killed me for a long, long, long, long time. Then I quit trying so hard and it clicked and I blew through it. After that, I noticed my foot pedal playing got substantially better and haven't really had a timing issue with it since. Now I'm just screwed with some of the rolls.

You need to see the youtube video of our very own brianluvdvd (Spiderbite) holding a long high note. Also of note is his brilliant rendition of Sabotage.

He sounds like when Conan sang it in the style of Edith Bunker.

I have no idea what you are talking about. My younger brother was using my DVDTalk account to post.

I actually sent him a message on Live telling him he could thank me later for the post.

I haven't played this game in at least two months now. It's weird: once I play it, I find it hard to play anything else. But once I put it away (ok, set it aside) it seems like a hassle to hook everything up. I guess I'm just lazy.
