Re: Batman: Arkham City Thread

After beating the game and running around collecting Riddler Trophies I spoke to Calendar Man again and he said, "Don't be scared Batman, Halloween will be a day to celebrate if you come and see me."

Maybe it's nothing, but it might be worth turning the game back on and talking to him on Monday.

Or you could just set your console's system date to 10/31. Its not like the game knows what date it actually is. It goes by whatever date is set in the system.

there is an achievement where you have to visit him on 12 different days and that is one of them.

to do this, you need to turn off your connection xbox live. otherwise it will continue to reset itself back to the correct date/time.

I didn't know that, since I have achievements turned off I never know when I get one.

That's good to know. I rarely ever use Xbox Live. I basically only ever use it to download demos.

Good call. I'm doing that right now.

I saw the calendar outside Calendar Man's cell earlier in the game, but didn't give it much thought. I now see that there are dates circled and each time you talk to him on one of those dates the month gets scribbled out.

Pretty cool.

Re: Batman: Arkham City Thread

Be careful, you might get labelled a big fat CHEATER!!! by some here for doing that. You should hang on to the game for a year and set an alarm for those dates instead.

It's just a silly thing to do just for an achievement. Almost as silly as remembering to play on those 12 specific days.

I didn't even do it for the Achievement. I just thought it was a cool aspect of the game and wanted to hear the stories Calendar Man told.

Spoiler:
The final Catwoman mission after the credits. I got past it by creating a diversion to get the other gunmen away from Two-Face and then pouncing on Two-Face and beating his ass. I tried to skulk around and take all the gunmen out but I kept not being sneaky enough. Oops.

That's exactly how I got past it as well.

FYI - there is a youtube video of all of his stories for those that can't even be bothered to switch the dates.

Re: Batman: Arkham City Thread

The end game is absolutely brutal on new game plus.

Spoiler:
On normal mode, you only needed to do three or four stealth tricks to beat Mr. Freeze. On new game plus, you need to do eight or nine, and you can't repeat them. I was beginning to run out of ideas until I thought to use the disruptor on his gun and it worked funnily enough.

The big fight with Clayface-Joker, the titan, and the hammer brother was just insane. Getting all the medals on the combat challenges was easier than that battle.

Spoiler:
You can jump on top of Freeze from the railings after he freezes them. You have to time your jump so that as soon as you jump over the railing, you land on him. That's the only way I could finally beat him on New Game Plus.

Spoiler:
The method I used was:

1. sneak attack from floor grates
2. sneak attack from behind
3. jump attack from ledge
4. jump attack from shelves
5. window takedown
6. blow up a wall on him
7. REC on a power generator
8. puddle of water in middle with exposed wires use a batarang on nearby switch when he is in water
9. disruptor on his gun

If there are any more than that, I don't know what they would be. It took every single one of them to beat him on new game plus, and actually it took me awhile to think to try the disruptor on him so I was stuck with him near death for a long time.

That is by far the best boss fight in both games combined. The rest of the boss fights are kind of bleh, except for Killer Croc in the first game.

Re: Batman: Arkham City Thread

I started over last night with the Catwoman stuff installed (thanks for the tip on that, it was epic ) and played up to the exact spot I left off the first time. I made sure to do it on 10/31 so I could get that first Calendar Man thing out of the way, should I care to go for that in the future.

When does the game get interesting? I figure I'm still in the "tutorial" aspect of it, but damn is it boring.

Jesus Christ, just give up. You clearly aren't into it.

It could also save us your whining.

Unsure what the complaints are about. IMO, having just started the game I dig the catwoman distraction. She bounces around like crazy Yoda!

I guess I just expected more than just the exact same thing as before with a much more confusing setting. They certainly don't explain what Arkham City is or how it relates to a prison or the Asylum.

I'm asking when it becomes a cohesive story and not just a series of vistas as you move half-way across the landscape skipping everything.

I certainly apologize I didn't fall instantly in love with it.

It never really does, which is disappointing since Paul Dini writes some fantastic comics, but neither this game nor the previous game really lived up to it. I really wonder just how much creative input Dini actually has with the games. As flimsy as the first game's story was, it was still leagues better than the story of Arkham City. I still love the games just because the combat is so fantastic and unique.
