I don't simply because this game isn't as thematically groundbreaking as he believes. And, even should it fail, I'm sure someone else will try (and possibly succeed) at doing it better.
For the record, I want it to do well because I like games geared towards adults.

You can't fault the guy for thinking that his game is groundbreaking. It is his game after all. Whenever you do something that you feel is an exceptional job aren't you proud of it also to the point sometimes of thinking it's the best job that's ever been done, even if it is not?

Just finished the demo and wasn't that impressed.
More frustrating than anything else.
I like the atmosphere, but the part with the FBI agent and you have to follow the cop, I couldn't see where he was because the scene is so friggin' dark. He kept asking are you coming and I said Yes, but I couldn't see where the hell he was or going. I even tried adjusting the gamma settings and still way to dark.
I'll give it another go.

I'm still getting the game, but the guy putting that much importance on his own creation comes off as being completely pompous, and comes off as an ass. It's not just thinking his own game is groundbreaking, it's making a statement that if you don't get this game then you deserve to be stuck in the rut of the same games with no emotional experience as obviously you don't want anything more. Except maybe people just don't want Heavy Rain. (The article author made that point himself.) I've been playing a bunch of non-troll/zombie/goblin games for years now, and Heavy Rain has yet to even be released.
I get what the guy was doing and saying, but it was a bit too ham fisted and self important IMO.

Perhaps, but he was absolutely right about loving your dog more than your wife in Fable 2. We just didn't realize that he would achieve that goal by making every NPC in the game bland, generic and annoying.

Well, I played for about an hour last night before bed and managed to be entertained do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! Seriously though, You walk around the dudes house and get ready for your day, but for some reason I was intrigued the entire time. I had not played the demo before, but yeah the controls for walking are borderline game breaking. Also, I was trying to mess things up on purpose to see what would happen but the game would just yell at me and make me try again, which I thought was going against what this game stood for. I'll start up that mall level today and see how it goes, hopefully I can make more choices for myself. I have been waiting for this game since before the PS3 existed and I saw the tech demo at E3....so it better be epic!

Don't all game designers do this?
The Fable guy, Metal Gear Solid guy, the Zelda guy, the Tetris guy?

Not really. At least some are far worse than others. I never really hear Miyamoto boast about how great his games are. Nintendo in general is usually very secretive about their upcoming games. Molyneux on the other hand always hypes the heck out of his games. I remember waaay back when Fable first started development (as a PC-only title called Project Ego) Molyneux was saying it was going to be the most epic RPG of all time. He was describing all kinds of stuff that he was going to put in the game. Then when we finally get the finished product, more than half the stuff he talked about was not in the game. The final product was barely even an RPG at all. It was more like Zelda-lite. For the people that followed the development of the game since the beginning, to say it was a huge disappointment would be an understatement.

Whoa now! A pompous, arrogant French man? Say it ain't so!
I love atmospheric adventure games, so I will buy this game to be supportive, great or not.

So how does that pic relate to snooty French men? And if L&O is already done with the game, I'll wait 'til it hits the Wal-Mart $10 bin.

Re: Heavy Rain -The Official Thread (Launches 2/23/10)
Well I think I am officially stuck/done with the game already. These controls just ruin the entire experience. I just spent the last 15 minutes on a simple 10 second section of the game that required me to lightly hold R1, Then lightly hold L1, then shake the piss out of the controller up and down while STILL lightly pressing the others. Pretty sure that is not physically possible to do. I just fail over and over again, either not shaking enough, or pressing the shoulder buttons too hard from the shaking. I'll try a few more times, but sadly this may be the end already.

I just played the demo knowing nothing about this game. The controls come off like quicktime events. I couldn't even enjoy the fight because I was too busy trying to catch each button that would appear.
It looks pretty interesting but the controls are a pain in the ass to me.

They should have ditched the QTE and cutesy button presses to squeeze passed something or climb a hill. It wasn't immersive at all and kept reminding me it's a game with crappy controls. What I did like was how you could shape the conversations and searching for evidence (despite how slowly you walk).
