Got the rest of my order today.

At first I was bummed that I got the 'Rental' version of 'Ted'. Then I popped in the BD and it had both cuts of the films + extras

re: Hastings / gohastings.com discounts and deals on Blu-ray

Not too happy with my recent order, got a bare bones rental copy with only theater cut instead of the promoted 2 disc unrated + lots of features. Half my blu-rays were in blockbuster style DVD cases. The two DVDs I actually ordered were more scratched up than I wanted but they'll work for the price I paid but one of my blu-rays had a HUGE scratch on it & that was horrible. 2nd time this has happened to me with them, most of the time scratches, rubs, & whatever come off easy with blu-rays but not these last two from go hastings. Oh well.... lol

Cheaper used DVDs from GoHastings invariably arrive in poor condition. It doesn't seem to be much of a problem for any of the merchandise priced over $10, but DVDs under that price are usually in poor condition. Blu-rays have less of a problem since they have the scratch protection coating.

always take care to notice what your are buying - PreViewed or Used. Both use the same promotional product image, description and SKU but the former is always a rental and hence the barebones single disc while the Used one will be a retail version. Sometimes they can make an exception based on how they want to fulfill but this is always true. WHich is also the reason the PV disc is cheaper than the used

It's definitely YMMV. I just got 4 dvds, all under $10 and 3 were only a dollar and all arrived in great condition.

I would call them... If you bought a "used" and received a "previously viewed" item.. they should make it right for you....

I've never understood why goHastings is so popular. You could probably get better deals thru pawn shops and at least inspect the disc. I've bought a couple of used DVDs from them and never had any problems. But for the most part these stories of bad discs, rentals, etc. have caused me to skip these sales altogether, esp. since the prices are just mediocre, even with the sales.

I guess it depends on your experience with them that keeps you away or coming back. I've been satisfied with my orders from them with both price and quality of disc. Another plus is that they ship fast even to where I live, way out here in Hawaii. We don't have too many pawn shops here so the deals are pretty good on Hastings, sometimes.

Not everyone has the same kinds of pawn shops. Here, they're full of absolute garbage, and the one or two blu-rays available are usually 10 bucks higher than going market on them (ie, 10 dollar titles available at the dollar tree, or crap like the Guardian for 15). For people whose town doesn't have a decent used retailer, Hastings is awesome, and the amount of discs I've bought from them over the years has been unreal. They sometimes fuck up, but they have done a great job in fixing their few mistakes.

Agreed. Also, Hastings has some used TV seasons for such low prices that I've bought duplicate copies simply to lend out. Their insanely low prices have also allowed me to buy season sets simply out of curiosity, with the knowledge that if I don't like them, I can give them away and not feel cheated.

Here's a few of the season sets that I've bought for less than $3 each, shipped:

Nip/Tuck - Season 1
Nip/Tuck - Season 2
Nip/Tuck - Season 3
Nip/Tuck - Season 4
Gene Simmons' Family Jewels - Season 1
Heroes - Season 1
Heroes - Season 2
Family Guy - Volume 2
Family Guy - Volume 3
Family Guy - Volume 4
Land of the Lost - Season 1
Grounded for Life - Season 1
Grounded for Life - Season 2
Murphy Brown - Season 1
Prayer Beads - The Complete Series
24 - Season 1
Desperate Housewives - Season 1
House M.D. - Season 1
Gossip Girl - Season 1
Glee - Season 1 (on Blu-ray, no less!)

...and, to reiterate, all of those were bought for less than $3 each, SHIPPED, and that's not everything that I've bought at that price from them.

As tecHouse said, they ship REALLY quickly. I usually get my orders 2-3 days after placing them. They do screw up orders occasionally, but they're great about making things right. I now know not to order any movie that shares its title with another movie (I ordered George Romero's THE CRAZIES from them twice, and both times received the remake). Live and learn.

So, yeah, I'm a fan. It's rather addicting to order from them...so much so that I had to stop buying from them for a few months. Now I try to shop in moderation. I may never actually have the time to watch the majority of things that I've bought from Hastings, but if I don't, I at least didn't spend a whole lot.

re: Hastings / gohastings.com discounts and deals on Blu-ray

I have never even bothered going into a pawn shop here on Oahu. Back in the day I use to hit up Rainbow Books and Jelly's for used laser disc. I am not sure if Rainbows is still open. And I know there is still a Jelly's in Aiea. But it has been ages since I been in those places.

I am also addicted in buying from GoHastings. So far this year over 115 blu-rays.
If I can get new releases for $12-$14 range I am a happy camper. But I need to put a hold on it and wait a 3-4 months and still get better prices.

My problem is shipping. Yes usually shipping is usually 3-4 days to Hi. Except when items are shipped Media Mail. Usually when they ship 3 or more titles or box sets. Then it takes about 3 days to get to Richmond, Ca. Then it takes about 10-12 days to get to me. I did get 4 boxsets sent to me today shipped in a box and by UPS. But even by UPS it took about a week. Which is still better than 2-3 weeks by media mail.

re: Hastings / gohastings.com discounts and deals on Blu-ray

Rainbows closed a few years ago

Besides the Aeia location, Jellys has a Kakaako location near the old CompUSA

I also find the occasional deal at BookOff in Ala Moana or Pearlridge. I found a Never Say Never Again Bluray there for $10 the other month

I bought a couple items as a test a month or two ago and was very pleasantly surprised with the results. Since then I filled out a bunch of my blu-ray back catalog during their frequent sales. Other than a weird/cracked case now and then (made right with a $0.50 replacement case), I have not had a significant problem and have been satisfied with the ship times, quality of the discs, and last but definitely not least - pricing.
